  • The final episode of Season Two looks a little different than the others. I sit down with two industry mavericks and thought leaders in community wellbeing and systems change to explore the new paradigm of leadership. If you're passionate about service, impact and contribution, and work in, with or for communities, this episode is going to supercharge your knowledge on leadership for systems change.

    In this episode we explore:

    - Systems change and the redistrubtion power

    - Inequality and inequity

    - What leadership for wellbeing looks like

    - Biggest mistakes in leadership for systems change

    - Trends within systems change, wellbeing in communities and leadership

    - Navigating privilege and decentering individuals in organising for change

One of my favourite quotes from this episode: "we need to move the power and resouce base away from beaurocratic, institutionalised siloed to whaanau and hapouri to control their own destiny" - Pete

    Tania Han

Tania is an extroverted introvert and believer in the power of people. Although she is now an independent strategy and impact consultant, she started her career in banking for over a decade before running away to join the impact, startup and public sectors. As a leader, collaborator and mentor with an insatiable love for learning, deep thinking, getting things done and supporting others, Tania has spent the last few years seeking out and working with people and organisations making the world a better place. She is a parent to a toddler and an ally for climate justice, social equity and dismantling oppression.

Peter Butler (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Kauwhata, Mōkai Pātea, Ngāti Paoa, Ngai Tai & Werehi)

Of Māori and Welsh ancestry, Peter was brought up in the urban Māori environment of Highbury in Palmerston North, at a time when urban drift was at its peak. His close knit whānau suffered the loss kuia & koroua in the 1970s and ‘80s. This was a time of change and instability and the whānau lost much of its mātauranga of Te Ao Maori. In his adult years, he has striven to regain that knowledge.

Peter has been involved within Youth and Community Development for the past twenty-eight years. He is currently the Kaihautū of the Highbury Whānau Centre, a unique organisation born from the desire of urban whānau to support their children. Passionately representing his community, he challenges civic leaders, decision makers, kaimahi and whānau to be creative and committed in the pursuit of equitable opportunities for our youth to develop and grow. He draws from the strength and legacy of his Tīpuna to constantly strive in the face of adversity, and the understanding of the need to ‘adapt or die’.

Peter integrates social integrity with business know-how in his mahi. As a social entrepreneur, he promotes sustainability within the field of community development.

Originally from New Zealand, Hellè is now based between Australia & LA and leads sold-out live events around the world alongside working privately with high-profile changemakers and leading the online Intuitive Impact Mastermind.

    In this episode we explore:
    - how to manifest something bigger than your circumstance
    - calibrating the nervous system for visions and dreams
    - how we can be afraid of being successful
    - how to grow into calling into your dream partner
    - the power of the inner-work
    - the difference between your signals and cues from the body, thoughts and intuition
    - why we should examine what feels safe and comfortable
    - how to renegotiate your reality
    - how we can be a willing participant with God
    - finding reciprocity with nature
    - what the new paradigm of leadership looks like and sounds like
    - authentic leadership

"If we don't feel safe to bring something into our life, to attract it, create it, and be a part of it, the subconscious which includes the body, will find ways to push it away."

Briony was a top-tier corporate lawyer for a number of years until she finally followed her true calling in coaching. Since then she has built Untapped, a 7-figure coaching company with a phenomenal team that has impacted and ignited thousands of women to step into their own truth and unique path through coaching programmes, workshops and online trainings!

I met Briony 5 years ago at Festival for the Future in Wellington, and not long after that she became my first coach supporting me to transform my mindset to fundraise for the charity I co-founded. We went from $500 in the bank to $100,000 within six months, and over the next four years, raised over $1m for community-led projects!

    In this episode we explore:

    - The duality of building a secure, scalable business with feminine leadership
    - The chaos of ALWAYS operating from intuition
    - Shifting from "rushing" to "receiving"
    - Regulating the nervous system personally and in business
    - Bravery to take the masks off as leaders
    - Finding humility and humanity in your imposter syndrome
    - How to dance in the duality of feminine and masculine energy as an integrated leader
    - How your judgements are your access to growth
    - How to build a business from a place of receivership
    - How we can avoid being with the extra-ordinary-ness of our lives
    - The importance of planting seeds in an environment that cultivates your unique blueprint to emerge
    - The support you get to give yourself for the best shot at your dreams
    - How money gives you an access to expression
    - Money as an amplifier as a neutral frequency
    - Getting curious about the relationship you want to have with money
    - How to attune and align to safety with money
    - Following your intuition even though the logistics aren't always easy

  • It felt right to start the second Season of Take Your Meds with Michael Moore. He’s a dear friend, father, partner, poet, story-teller and facilitator who brings a deep felt sense of aroha into every space he walks. He isn’t afraid to walk into the darkest of places, inside himself, and call forward parts of himself for integration and harmony, and supports men and boys to do the same!

    In this episode we explore:
    • Life as a religion
    • Taking a break from the things we master
    • Male fragility and privilege
    • The heroism of vulnerability
    • Excavating our inner-worlds
    • Creation vs creativity moving through us
    • Trauma recovery
    • Nurturing the whenua
    • Creating safety within ourselves
    • Navigating relationships
    • The divine feminine
    • Being the baby again

    "Ko Taupiri te Maunga
    Ko Waikato te Awa
    Ko Tainui te Waka
    Ko Ngati Maniapoto tōku Iwi

The roles I honour most in my life at the moment are being a Dad, a partner, a guide to men and young men alike and most recently, a student to the many masks I wear.

I’m a big dreamer, attuning my body and being to love and birdsongs, sometimes with ease, sometimes in the throes of self destruction.

Perhaps storyteller is a role that gives me my greatest sense of place as an individual.

I’m fortunate to share inside gorgeous kaupapa, and have found a place for my own heart expansion in Poutama Rites of Passage, reintroducing Te Aō Māori rites into the lives of tāne and tama Tāne throughout Waikato rohe.

My name is Michael, but most people actually call me Megs, a genderless nickname that invites me still, to softer living.

  • Erana Severne-Takataka has a calling on her life for leadership like no-one I've ever met. She believes that leaders create more leaders, and this episode dives into the mindsets, attitudes and beliefs for living a purpose driven life she loves making a massive impact on the world around her. What I loved most about this episode was Erana's acceptance of the duality in life and how she navigates emotions and uncertainty with radical self-belief and determination to make a positive contribution to the world.

Erana is currently Operations Manager and Project Lead at the Wise Group, where she brings her visionary perspective to three transformational community projects. She was recently featured in ‘Womankind’: a book profiling 50 women making a difference in Aotearoa. Through Covid-19, Erana was a key player in the strategy to distribute over 457,000 meals to families in need over nine weeks. At the same time, Erana also co-led the development of a local initiative called ‘Here to help u’, which has revolutionised how people access social and wellbeing support. In just over a year and through the combined efforts of partners, providers and volunteers; almost 9,000 people have received the full support they needed, and ‘Here to help u’ is now growing into other areas and regions. Previously Erana worked at the DHB, developing successful projects to support Māori workforce development and healthy homes. The healthy homes project Erana led, significantly reduced avoidable child hospital admissions.

  • Rangipare Belshaw-Ngaropo is of Ngaati Awa descent and affiliated to Mataatua, Te Arawa, Tainui, Takitimu and Ngatokimatawhaorua.

She’s has represented Aotearoa at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York, United Nations Expert Mechanism on The Right of Indigenous Peoples in Switzerland and attended the World Indigenous Decade of Water Summit with He Kuaka Maarangaranga in Minesota. But most importantly, she’s a maamaa.

She draws her strength from her whaanau, hapuu iwi, tiipuna and future tamariki. She’s held several governance and leadership roles locally and nationally uplifting, elevating, and raising Maaori aspirations.

We met working together in the youth development space, and what I love most about Rangipare is her connection to her culture, community, and creativity, and how she unleashes her authenticity and self-expression through these channels. This episode was vulnerable, real, and authentic, and we spoke into themes of motherhood and the ego identity.

    We dive into:

Identity loss in motherhoodWhakapapa and genealogy Letting go of people pleasing Toxic positivity in motherhood Play and pleasure as self-expressionMasculine and feminine energies Creating blissHow the ego plays gamesUnlearning control Healing in the ocean Setting boundariesNarcissistic tendencies
