Slade McFarland is the face of Mates in Construction, an industry initiative aimed at reducing NZ suicides among its workers. Struggling to deal with the end of a long rugby career, Slade found himself sliding into depression and struggling to cope with the change in his life, he contemplated suicide. Where rugby had been his therapy, he found himself without that outlet but fortunately found support with a counsellor. Now he is giving back himself, letting workers know there is help out there for them when they are struggling.
