  • When my mom accepted the invitation to join us for the 2024 California Crush Invitational, I knew it would be an unforgettable experience. My sister Alix joins me today to reflect on Mom’s first-ever golf tournament experience and the lessons women golfers can take to heart through her example!

From Napa to Tampa, Mom’s unique challenges as a first-timer speak to the women out there who are thinking about taking the leap into their first tournament, but for one reason or another, they are holding back–whether due to a higher handicap index or otherwise.

With Mom being a casual golfer by nature, Alix and I never felt prouder witnessing her achieve her first birdie! She adapted beautifully to the formalities of an 18-hole match, thanks in no small part to the supportive environment we were immersed in throughout those two amazing days!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a conversation with Alix without a diversion into the latest golf fashion trends (can you say “wide-leg pants”?). After a quick discussion on said trends, Alix and I wrap things up by talking about the power of connecting with like-minded individuals who share our passion for women empowering women out on the course!

  • I’m back with golf coach Justin Klambala, who's making his return to competitive golf after a hiatus since 2009. With his signature energy and passion for the sport that we’ve all come to know and love, he’s here to tell us all about his comeback and the lessons he’s learned along the way! Justin kicks things off talking about the differences between outcome goals and process goals, and why our long-term success in any endeavor–golf or otherwise–depends on making more of the latter.Drawing from his personal experience, Justin illustrates why keeping your focus on the present moment during tournament play is one of the best things you can do, and why obsessively checking your score ultimately makes little difference on your ability to win!“All I can do is try to hit great shots,” Justin says. “If I do that, I’m stacking the odds in my favor and do my best. If my best beats everybody else that day, I win. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t!”Finally, Justin shares why being your own cheerleader is a game-changer for building confidence, the self-talk secret that separates great golfers from average golfers, and his career goals moving forward.

  • Today I’m sitting down with mindset coach and hypnotherapist, Paul Salter, to get his unique insights on using hypnosis to elevate your golf game.

Paul defines hypnosis as “a state of deep relaxation with the intention to make positive change”. A skilled hypnotherapist can help anyone silence their inner critic, and directly connect with their subconscious mind to unlearn limiting beliefs and. This, in turn, allows new, more productive beliefs to take their place.

Asked how golfers can harness the power of hypnosis to take their game to the next level, Paul reminds us that “there is no shortage of mental and emotional hazards on the course.” Coming up against those hazards triggers negative self-talk, which naturally nurtures self-destructive behaviors that ruin your chances at a great, fun round. To golfers struggling with emotional control, Paul demonstrates how hypnosis can significantly boost performance and align you with your best self. Paul goes on to explain how to cultivate a winning mindset, create confidence on demand, enhance emotional resiliency, and effortlessly find flow and fun out on the course. As a bonus, we also touch on finding success both as a golfer and as a parent–at the same time! About Paul SalterHaving personally coached over 2,500 clients, Paul Salter is an expert in helping you get out of your own way by stopping self-sabotage at the source. With an extensive background working with elite Collegiate, Professional, and Olympic athletes as a Sports Dietitian, his unique coaching system leverages 15 years of coaching with an emphasis on hypnosis, subconscious reprogramming, mindset shift training, and proven strategies to help you unstuck yourself. The result: You break through limiting beliefs, overcome mental roadblocks, and conquer the fears holding you back from unlocking your full potential.

  • I’m sitting down with Mark Milatz of Caddie Tales fame to listen to his hilarious and insightful stories out on the course, as well as his inspiring journey from alcoholism to sobriety. It’s a victory that he says would not have been possible without the opportunity to live his passion as a caddie! We also get into caddie best practices, such as quelling your player’s nerves before a round, the importance of lag putting, and getting real about pace-of-play with self-proclaimed “fast” groups! About Mark Milatz
Mark never anticipated becoming a caddie. It was a role he stumbled upon out of sheer necessity, a lifeline when he found himself at rock bottom due to a string of regrettable choices that shattered his life and career. Initially, he viewed it as a temporary measure, a means to gather his shattered pieces and find a way forward. Little did he know that this seemingly inconsequential detour would ignite a profound passion within him, becoming his salvation and guiding light.

  • What a fun episode we have today with Evan Singer and Matt Cermak from The Par Train podcast joining us. We are filling you in on 5 ways you can be miserable on the golf course – this is a must-listen!

    Key Highlights:

Expecting what you do on the range to happen on the course. A warm-up is just that: a warm-up. Your best swing or putt is an outlier, not an average. Trying to shoot your best score. When was the last time you actually shot your best score when you “tried” to shoot your best score? Don’t reinvent a past victory. Instead, recommit to earn a new victory. That is, don’t look at the finish line. Focus instead on the process—the journey—that will result in a win. Trying to impress others. Since we’re only human, we can’t help but care what others think; but, when we let the opinions of others influence our performance on the golf course, we end up doing worse than if we just put aside that insecurity. Assume you won’t make mistakes. Just because your last round was perfect doesn’t mean this round will be perfect. Golf is a game of recovery. Don’t get too high, and don’t get too low. Take care not to rest on your laurels after every good shot and beat yourself up after every bad shot. If you get too high, you create unnecessary pressure on yourself come the next swing; and if you get too low, you gradually lose the confidence and motivation to go on. Michael Leonard from the Wicked Smart Podcast joins me once again to explain what he didn’t do to become a scratch golfer.

Referring to going scratch as “the six-pack of golf”, Michael says that there’s no faking the journey to hitting that magical zero handicap. It’s a rewarding place to be, and anyone who wants to get into the top 5% of players needs to have a sound strategy.

At the same time, there are commonly-accepted steps that one shouldn’t take to become a scratch golfer. Listen in as Michael dives deep into every one of these misconceptions, from the pitfalls of obsessing over mechanics, to routine and short swing misfires, to the silly mind games we play that do more harm than good out on the course.

And don’t miss the tail-end of our conversation, where Michael gives his thoughts on the difference between a scratch player and a true scratch player.

    About Michael Leonard:

Michael Leonard is a professional writer who has been featured in Lifehacker, Addicted2Success, Rockstar Finance, Early to Rise, Thrive Global and more. In 2022, he launched the Wicked Smart Golf podcast and published the Wicked Smart Golf Book. In 2023, he launched Wicked Smart Golf Academy using his mental golf coaching and tournament knowledge to help golfers play better without swing changes. He also launched AZ Golf Wizard the same year to help locals and out-of-towners navigate AZ golf.

Today I’m speaking with Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, co-founder of The Stack System, an innovative training tool that applies principles from the world of track and field to improve your clubhead speed in an efficient and measurable way.

“I like to use the Stack to reinforce positive swing mechanics,” says Dr. MacKenzie.

We then explore success stories and the transformative potential of The Stack System. With the top 5,000 users gaining an average of 12 miles per hour, and a recommended gain of 6-10 miles per hour from the 6-week foundation program, we discuss what golfers can expect from using the system over time.

In the same vein, Dr. MacKenzie also addresses the minority of users who may struggle with lack of control over their swing speed, particularly at max-level, offering advice and solutions for overcoming their limitations.

We then talk about how The Stack System can be applied in various training environments and climates. We focus especially on how it can be beneficial for female golfers looking to add aggression to their game.

Finally, Dr. MacKenzie and I discuss the program’s Stack Putting System and how its progressive training structure can help you minimize your putting biases over time, whether you’re struggling with speed or direction.

    About The Stack System:

Lisa shares her insightful personal experiences as a world-class athlete, including her triumph of hitting the longest drive in women's golf history, and what she did to gain the highest swing speed she's ever achieved.

3 Reasons You Lack Distance in Your Swing (and What to Do Instead)
(06:47) Reason 1: You’re an arms lifter. Because women are naturally more flexible than men, it’s easy to think you’re turning when you’re really just lifting your arms. Lisa recommends looking at your body in two parts: the upper body and the lower body. During the backswing, start with your lead shoulder, forcing you to turn your chest turning away from the ball. On the other hand, during the downswing, maximize the coil and torque you’ve built up by leading with your lower body.

(09:25) Reason 2: Your golf swing sequence is flawed or lacking. “Turn the shirt” on the backswing, freeze, then “turn the skirt” on the downswing. The best way to make this sequence second nature is by practicing dissociation drills, as well as training to move your weight to the instep of the back foot when transitioning from the backswing to the downswing.

(18:43) Reason 3: You don’t finish the golf swing. Most golfers put all their focus on hitting the ball, so that once they make contact, they begin to decelerate and fail to maximize distance as a result. Your clubhead should be at its fastest not on the ball, but three feet past the ball. Always keep this in mind: Hit through the ball, not to the ball.

Our conversation shifts the focus from accuracy to the importance of avoiding penalties, to take your course management to the next level!
