What To Do If You Get A Bad Review - Episode 97 of the Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast with Tracy Lynn! So…you got a bad review in your boudoir photography biz. Such a bummer, right? I know how that feels and I’ve definitely had my fair share of them. It’s so frustrating because you immediately feel that the world has ended, like this one bad review is going to break your business. Spoiler alert: It won’t! Remember, stuff like this is inevitable. You can do absolutely everything right, and there will still be unhappy people. You can’t please everyone! Boudoir Photography Trends I LOVE (And Hate) - Episode 90 of the Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast with Tracy Lynn! When you think of boudoir photography trends, what comes to mind? In the late 90s/early 2000s, it was all the rage to have black and white or extra vignette-style photos. Then, in the 2010s, super-matte photos were the big thing. And then, it went to orange skin tones with mint green hues. And at the time, we all thought they were super cute. 3 Ways to Build a Portfolio that ARE NOT a Model Call - Episode 87 of the Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast with Tracy Lynn! Photography model calls…yay or nay? After talking to some of you over on my Instagram Live recently, the general consensus is that it’s a nay. And it’s not hard to see why. Model calls are a tactic used to get clients in front of your camera, disguised as a modeling opportunity (not just using models themselves…that’s a totally separate thing!). People will often use this as a way to create a photography portfolio, especially if they’re just starting out. And it’s very attractive to many models (experienced or not) because they think they get free sessions and photos — all they need to do is show up and sign a release form. But more often than not, what ends up happening is they have to PAY for their photos. Not cool, right? Not only that, but model calls tend to make photographers look a little too green. You want to establish yourself as an authority in your niche/local area. But it’s hard to do that with model calls. The good news? There are plenty of other ways to build your portfolio. EXACTLY How I Grew My Photography Business to 6-Figures in ONE YEAR! - Episode 84 of the Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast with Tracy Lynn! In 2013, I picked up a camera for the first time ever. I was living in Oklahoma, in a very unhealthy relationship, stuck in survival mode for years. And although I had a good job, I was just trying to make ends meet. Photography quickly became my creative outlet during that time of my life. It gave me the chance to meet new people, go to workshops, travel alone a lot, and, to be honest, learn who I was as a person instead of just being miserable all the time. Fast forward to 2016, and I moved to St. Louis. Right then and there, I decided it was time to make photography my full-time job so I could have freedom in my life and get to do more of what I wanted. For the next year, I worked really hard to hit a number that would allow me to do that. And in December 2017, I was FINALLY able to turn this into my full-time job. But what happened in the in-between? How exactly did I get there? THREE Ways To Book Out Your Photography Schedule - Episode 82 of the Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast with Tracy Lynn! When I first moved to St. Louis, I knew no one. Literally not a single soul. So to book out my photography schedule, I had to get really creative. I had to put myself out there, figure out who I wanted to photograph, and yes...being bold! Was it scary? A little. But I’m glad I went for it because now I have repeat clients I LOVE working with. And most of my new ones are referrals. Exposure is something a lot of photographers don’t love to talk about. “Exposure doesn’t pay the bills.” “I don’t think they accept exposure for paying my electric bill.” “Exposure doesn’t pay my mortgage.” And listen, I get it. You’re 100% right — they don’t accept exposure when you are paying your bills. But I still want to reframe your mindset around the topic of exposure.
