A Kentucky native and an associate head coach at Indiana Tech, Kenton’s career spans various coaching roles, where he has not only contributed to the skill development of players but also to their personal growth as individuals. Brad and Kenton discuss the parallels between sports strategies and life triumphs, and the vital roles of preparation, relationships, and adaptability in achieving success.

    Quote

"When you're trying to find leaders in your program, it's not: Here's a game plan. Here's how you become a leader. Now, sure, we've all seen it in business and athletics. There are individuals that, over the course of time, evolve into leaders. But when you walk into your preseason open gyms and you're looking at leaders and you're trying to identify who the leaders are within your program, you're looking at people that are doing the tough, uncomfortable things.” -Kenton Aubrey [27:30]
“In business, my encouragement to the listener is if you can focus on twelve weeks at a time, what happens is it's called periodization. It's actually a cycling term, but if you focus on short cycle execution, which is my timeline of getting something done right, remember when you're in school and the teacher is like, hey, this is due at the end of the month, you probably even do this as a teacher, as a professor, hey, this is due at the end of the month.” -Brad Noll [23:29]

“To be present is to be powerful. I think what you're saying and what I'm hearing here, Charles, is when I'm present, I can give myself grace for the transition I'm going through. But take it a step further. When I'm present, I can give other people grace. How many times am I not going through a transition? But in my daily walk, I run into people going through transitions when I'm present. I can give the other people grace as well.” -Brad Noll [36:53]

    Quote

“Everything that you can think of has fundamentals to it. Fundamentals will never change. It's the strategies and the tactics that you employ. Those are always changed. So if you feel like your life is constantly changing, if you feel like you know you're frustrated because of the change at your work or the change at home, those are just the strategies and tactics. The fundamentals will not. So you have to seek out the truth. You have to seek out those fundamentals. Fall in love with the practice.” -Brad Noll [04:56]

“When you don't reach out and engage with your clients, that's the most selfish thing you can do.  Because what happens is, if you have clients out there right now, and the story you're telling yourself is, they don't want to hear from me. I don't know what value I can add to them. You think you're doing that to protect the other person. That's actually the most selfish act there is.” -Brad Noll [24:01]

  • This week on the Student of the Game podcast, Brad Noll talks with Steph Winger, a successful realtor and coach based in Canada. Steph shares her journey as a realtor and coach, and how she found success by focusing on long-term vision and short-cycle execution. She shares why having a clear vision for the future and breaking it down into smaller, manageable goals is important. Steph also discusses the concept of the "twelve-week year" and how it can help individuals achieve more in a shorter period of time. She encourages women to prioritize self-care and not neglect themselves while juggling various roles and responsibilities.

    Quotes

“We need to feel okay to reach out to our friends and also be open with them and say, hey, I'm really struggling with this. So I would just like to put this extra suggestion out to women: don't be afraid to share. We're not meant to be martyrs. We're meant to be in community, to support each other, and uplift each other. ” -Steph Winger [28:38]
“There are people that see what's just right in front of them. That's how they look at time. It's like, okay, today is the most important day of my life. Then there are people that are a little spectrum where they can go out and they can see a little further. They can see behind them, they have some perspective, and then they also can see in front of them and maybe do some goal setting. Then there are some people that are global that can only see down the road.” -Brad Noll [05:25]
