  • Today's episode is all about the wind up of the 2025 Red Deer rut. During the year we had Brett and Kev on a different times and we thought it would be valuable to get both the lads together to compare notes of the 2025 rut and talk about how different environmental conditions effected the rut in particular geographical locations.

This was a really fun episode to be part of as you can hear with the banter and laughs we shared along the way.

    Enjoy this one.

  • Today we are live in the studio with Brad Smith from Bowhunt Downunder. Brad dropped in on his way up to Cape York and we decided to flick the mics on after dinner and have a yarn about how the 2025 rut played out and how this years environmental conditions in the lead up effected things on the ground.

Before we got into the rut discussions we chewed the fat on plenty of hunting related topics that headed off down a number of rabbit holes along the way.

We really enjoy conversations like this one with Brad that just flow naturally and cover what ever seems to come up along the way. It definitely had the feel like we were just sitting around the fire with a Blue Label or two yarning about all things hunting.

Brad is a legend of a bloke and a legend of Bowhunting, and after getting to know him over the last few years we are proud to call him a good mate.

Grab a beer and enjoy this one legends.

  • Today's yarn is with 23 year old Bowhunter and Spearo Tallis Cotterill. This episode is all about the incredible solo effort Tallis put into successfully hunting a beautiful New Zealand Red Stag in the rut period of 2025.

As you listen to this episode you will quickly begin to understand just how hard working, determined and driven Tallis is in the pursuit of his goals. The time and planning he put in to ensure his trip over the ditch was successful is second to none.

During the episode we discuss the philosophy of "no wasted days" and Tallis certainly lives his life by this on a daily basis.

We very much enjoyed the opportunity to get to know this legend and look forward to hearing more of his epic adventures as they unfold.

    This is his story.

  • Today's yarn is all about spearfishing and bowhunting remote islands. For this one we called upon two of the shows great friends Lex O'Conner and Ash Currie.

Both of these boys recently made the big move north with their families to the tip of Australia. Settling on the remote Thursday Island off the northern most point of Australia. This gave the boys and their families a chance to experience life at a slower place as well as take in some of the culture from some of the traditional owners who live on Thursday Island.

We thought it would be a good chance to catch up with the boys and hear how things differ in general life, as well as on the hunting and spearfishing front.

The boys provide some good insight into local weather patterns, tides, moon phases and other factors that influence wether it will be a bowhunting or spearfishing adventure.

As usual we also share plenty of laughs as well as some stories of old trips we have shared together doing the things we love.

    This is their story.

  • Today's Yarn is all about our recent Bowhunting trip to beautiful and brutal New Zealand. The Boys headed deep into the south island of New Zealand to chase Fallow bucks in some of the steepest locations they have ever experienced.

Whist we head into the tail end of the 2025 rut, we thought this was a good chance to talk about some of the heartache the boys experienced and share some lessons learned in the process.

This is their 2025 New Zealand rut story.

  • Today we mark the 50th episode of the Stalk Outdoors Podcast with a cracking local spearo by the name of Zac Forst. You only have to take a quick look at some of Zac's underwater video to see the quality of fish he regularly and successfully harvests.

Today's yarn is all about diving coastal headlands, a method that Zac has perfected with plenty of time in the water exploring particular areas as well as paying close attention to environmental factors that show a pattern in fish behaviours.

Zac has a particular love for targeting and observing coastal Jewfish and we get into the weeds discussing these amazing creatures.

This episode is proof you don't need a boat to be able to land epic fish!

It was a pleasure having Zac on the show as he is a true waterman with a genuine love for the ocean and a zest for living life in the outdoor environment.

    This is his story.

Ben has spent his life hunting his way across the world to some of the most epic places on the planet, chasing some of the most incredible critters there are.

He shares some absolutely cracking tips with us to help those looking at travelling with a bow. These include:

Packing techniquesItems to remove for travelWhat to do upon arrivalEssential items to takeHaving a plan BMaintaining a positive attitude when shit hits the fan

  • Today's yarn is with The Bald Chef Andrew Joulianou.

We are back for our first episode of 2025 which marks the beginning of season three of the show.

With all the hysteria surrounding our food consumption, food additives and our addiction to ultra processed foods, we thought it would be fitting to have Andrew on the show to discuss the current issues with how we look at, prepare and eat our food.

Andrew is a keen hunter with a rich family history of hunting and home cooking. In his later years he has developed a love affair with hunting, growing and cooking wild game and other natural low ingredient nutritious foods. So much so, that he developed the social media name The Bald Chef.

Its not uncommon to see Andrew out in nature with his young family, filming his adventures, hunting, preparing and cooking wild game using traditional methods and creating delicious nutritious meals promoting the amazing benefits of living a self sustainable life.

    This is his story.

  • Today's yarn is the final episode of season two of show! For this episode we wanted to leave you all with something a little more meaningful that would highlight the mental health benefits and science behind spending time in the great outdoors.

To bring this one together we called upon a person who has helped us greatly in other areas of life by the name of Mark Mathieson.

Mark is a qualified Psychologist who has extensive experience working with high level athletes, Special Forces Military operators and on reality TV shows (SAS Australia, Alone Australia, Survivor Australia). During these interactions, Mark began to realise just how powerful spending time outdoors was in assisting with mental and physical health and as a result, spent a great deal of time researching the proven benefits of doing so.

Mark is a hunter and outdoorsman who places a high value on the healing powers of being out in nature. During this episode we cover the scientifically proven reasons why we all feel so much better after spending time outdoors doing the activities we love.

It was a pleasure to have Mark on the show and we look forward to having him on again in the future to delve deeper into these and other mental health and awareness topics that effect us all on a daily basis.

    This is his story.

  • Today's yarn is all about chasing the elusive Yellowfin Tuna. A few weeks ago we were sent a video of a guy landing an absolute monster Yellowfin and after seeing the footage, we just had to reach out to him and get him on the show. Micka Lusson is his name and spearfishing is his game!

It wasn't long into our conversation that we realised just how much time, effort and planning Micka has put in to work out a system for accurately predicting when, where and why these amazing Yellowfin and other species of fish will show up.

The amount of knowledge he shares with us on this episode is absolutely incredible and it left us scratching our heads for a week after the interview.

It was a real privilege to get the opportunity to learn from someone with as much in water experience as Micka.

Em has put in the hard yards over many years researching, practicing and learning skills to enable her to provide her family with self harvested protein from the most natural of environments.

During this episode we go down the rabbit hole on loads of topics, all centred around living a more self sustainable, healthy life.

We had a really great time putting this episode together with Em and felt a great energy during the conversations. She is a great role model for other females looking to kick start their Bowhunting journey.

  • Today's yarn is with passionate hunter, outdoorsman and conservationist Hamiora Gibson.. Or better known as "Sam The Trap Man".

Sam has spent a lifetime in the bush learning how to truely live from the plant and animal life in New Zealand at the same time preserving and caring for our natural resources to ensure they are here for generations to come.

Sam has undertaken some incredible trapping work targeting non native, invasive species with some outstanding results. His trapping work has expanded to multiple other areas across New Zealand and continues to help the native species to once again flourish.

The link between hunting and conservation meet perfectly when you mention the name Sam Gibson. He is a true representation of what all of us should strive for when representing hunting and hunters in this country.
