U22 is about readers' journeys through Ulysses, James Joyce’s modernist epic about the lives of ordinary people on a day in Dublin in 1904. The podcast anticipates and accompanies a reader-friendly edition Catherine Flynn is bringing out with Cambridge University Press for the book’s centenary in 2022. Here, she and her co-hosts Rafael Aguilar, Emily Moell, and Louie Poore talk with the contributors to the volume and with readers of Ulysses from around the world. Listen to their first impressions, later realizations, and the challenges and the pleasures they met along the way.

The world of the early modern period (C10th - C16th) was one of religious obsession, power struggles and plunder. But it was also a world of stunning artistic endeavour. This collection shows how, encoded in the art and architecture of the time, you can find stories of political machinations, female influence and surging movements of people. We may think our own era has a monopoly on long-distance travel, but in the mediaeval period it was perfectly possible for Western Catholic artists to encounter Eastern Orthodox or Islamic cultures. And as the different cultures met, they influenced each other in unexpected ways.

International conference organised by Ertegun Scholar Manuel Muhlbacher and his college advisor Nicholas Cronk. Imprisoned during his lifetime and sanctified in the twentieth century, the Marquis de Sade has attracted considerable critical interest during the last decades. He was a favourite of literary theory in the sixties and seventies, while more recent scholarship has begun to explore how Sade subversively rewrites major texts of the French Enlightenment. As the constant interest in Sade shows, his work continues to puzzle and fascinate his readers. The conference Sade, l'inconnu? Nouvelles approches critiques brought together acknowledged specialists as well as young researchers to discuss emerging topics in Sade studies. Beginning with a keynote lecture by Michel Delon, the editor of Sade's works in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, the conference engaged with neglected aspects of Sadean writing and highlighted perspectives for future research. The papers covered such topics as intertextuality in Sade, the Marquis' universally neglected 'decent' texts and implied readership in Sade. For the 200th anniversary of Sade’s death in 2014, the papers will be published as an issue on Sade in Romance Studies

In many cultures, song is perhaps one of the most important traditions. What is extraordinary about the Inuit musical tradition is the way they create their songs - with notes originating from their throats. The song isn't interrupted even when a breath has to be taken. The 6 tracks in this album focus on Tanya Tagaq, who describes the amazing art of throat singing and how her heritage and culture, carried in her heart forever, has driven her to continue with this unique tradition. This material is drawn from The Open University course AA317, Words and music.

I’m Matt Maruca, and this is The Light Diet podcast! After struggling with health issues as a young kid, I’ve spent nearly half my life seeking to understand how our bodies work in order to achieve optimal health.
On my journey, I learned about little-known Western research from expert scientists confirming that our bodies are electromagnetic in nature, meaning that we are truly beings of light, and our body’s functions are controlled by light. This research opens the doors to an entirely new and deeper understanding of previously misunderstood Ancient Eastern wisdom about health, energy, and wellness.
As the saying goes, heaven and hell have the same address: half way between our right and left ears. My goal is to travel the world and learn from leading Western Experts and Eastern Masters all of the things that we can do in our time on this earth to live in the states of bliss, flow, and love that everyone has experienced, but we have been taught to believe are only accessible under special circumstances.
Achieving optimal health and self-realization in the modern world involves more than just diets of our food and exercise. It requires a new relationship with Light, externally and internally.
