It's a brand new edition of the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast," as host T.J. Rives is back for this edition with a special guest.
T.J. is usually joined by Mike Gill of ESPN 97.3 radio in Atlantic City, NJ, but Mike had other chaotic Philly sports press conference and event duties for his station. He'll be back Wednesday with takes and ratings, etc. on our "daily" M-F series.
Instead, T.J. gives some insight on some College Football/NFL/WNBA ratings off the weekend and praises the Joe Buck/Troy Aikman team on Monday Night Football on ESPN. Find out why?
Then, he wecolmes back to the pod, previous guest Carmen Vitali of FoxSports.com, Fox Sports Radio nationally and more. Carmen has tremendous insight on the NFL, as we discuss briefly, but we find out more about her broadcasting duties and the differences between live TV, live radio and more. Carmen also has exciting personal news, as well.
We close out talking the MLB postseason heating up, as the Dodgers/Mets in the NLCS and the Yankees/Guardians in the ALCS are discussed for TV audience and market size.

He has the latest on:
The craziness post-Hurricane Milton in Florida coupled with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene two weeks earlier.
The NFL weekend, inclduing why didn't Fox want to leave the awful, one sided Cowboys game in the fourth quarter on Sunday? What game did NBC want for SNF instead of the awful Giants/Bengals matchup but was stuck when they were blocked by another network?
Plus, College Football's dramatic Saturday afternoon and night are examined, while we wait for the ratings on the close finishes on network TV.
And, there's some brief talk on the MLB League Championship Series' both getting underway for Turner Sports (TBS) and Fox Sports. Plus, ESPN/ABC announce their NBA announcers for this upcoming season.

On the newest edition of the "daily" host T.J. Rives returns in the aftermath of dealing overnight with Hurricane Milton in his area of Florida. He recounts what went on late night Wednesday and updates the situation in Tampa Bay, etc.
He also discusses the MLB post season matchups and networks, as the Mets have eliminated the Phillies to meet either the Dodgers or Padres. They are playing a winner take all game five Friday night in L.A. Meanwhile, Thursday could see both Detroit and the New York Yankees advance in the A.L. or one or both might need a Saturday game five, also?
There's some quick mention of the NFL weekend kicking off in Seattle Thursday night for the 49ers at the Seahawks on Amazon Prime and lots of important College Football matchups with Oklahoma playing Texas in the Cotton Bowl on ABC in ther renewal of the "Red River Rivalry" and a new Big Ten showdown has Ohio State at Oregon in the NBC Sports prime time game.

On the newest edition of our M-F "Dailyl" edition of the show host Mike Gill is back with news and his takes on the MLB Postseason, the NFL numbers and more.
Mike covers the ratings in for the Fox/FS1 and Turner Sports ratings for the MLB postseason games. How did they do against a weekend of College Football and the NFL?
Also, Mike has some critiquing of some of the best p x p calls of the MLB playoff games and he has more on the NFL TV numbers, including the Sunday Night Game with the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers and Monday night football with the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.
It's all part of the "LWOS Media Daily" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc! -
It's the newest edition of the podcast, as host T.J. Rives and co-host Mike Gill return with their takes on the weekend and more in sports and the coverage of it in sports media on the "Last Word on Sports Media" podcast!
They discuss:
The College Football craziness and announcers calling the wild games and upsets and did the MLB playoffs make an impact Saturday or not?
There's also discussion of the NFL Sunday that had 15 hours of football from London Sunday morning with Aaron Rodgers and the Jets against the Vikes all the way to late Sunday night (after a lightning delay) for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys heroics in the final minute vs. the Steelers. The guys talk the drama, the broadcasters and more.
The guys also mix in the MLB Postseason conversation, as it went head to head with football Saturday through Monday. Mike has lots of interest in the Phillies in his market and their success and MLB does have the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers in the biggest markets, too.
There's discussion of Shams Charania being hired as the new ESPN NBA insider and senior writer and Mike wonders how much value there really is in breaking news via social media now, anyway?
Finally, there's lots of info on the ridiculous "mud-slinging" by the disgruntled WNBA players and their association at famed former Washington Post writer and now USA Today columnist and author Christine Brennan. Brennan question whether a Connecticut player purposely tried to poke Indiana's Caitlin Clark's eye in a playoff game and it set off a firestorm of reaction. TJ speficially defends Brennan against critics for obvious reasons in her background, etc.

Sunday saw 9 of the 12 games come down to the very end/OT in as dramatic a day as you could imagine. Which announce crews stood out from London to Houston to San Francisco and even, Pittsburgh, too?!
And, the MLB playoffs are now going head to head with the NFL, including the intrigue of the Yankees game against Kansas City in game two of their best of five going against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs hosting New Orleans on Monday Night Football.

He has thoughts on the football weekend staring up with the Amazon Prime/Thursday night wild win by the Falcons over the Buccaneers.
And then, lots on the baseball, including the Mets dramatic game 3 wildcard win over the Brewers to make the NLDS with the Phillies.
Mike has p x p calls and the schedule of games and how to see/hear them.
It's all on the "LWOS Media Daily" and follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.! -
It's an intriguing Thursday night for sports fans as the "winner take all" MLB Wildcard game goes against Thursday Night Football in the NFL. And, host T.J. Rives is back to discuss it on the "Daily."
How about Disney/ESPN deciding to start the MLB game three of NY Mets at Milwaukee Brewers at 7 p.m. Eastern to stay early and away from the NFL start time of 8:15p Eastern for Buccaneers at Falcons in Atlanta?! It seems to be on the surface a smart move. T.J. has his thoughts.
Also, the WNBA voting is in for Rookie of the Year and Caitlin Clark was almost unanimous (no surprise), meanwhile, apparently the Tuesday night cable ratings for the semi-final playoffs on ESPN2 must not have been very good, again, as there are no numbers late in the day on Thursday.
Hear it all discussed on the "LWOS Media Daily" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker and Spotify to this feed! -

On the latest edition of the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast," hosts T.J. Rives and Mike Gill return to give extended thoughts and analysis on the latest in sports media, ratings and more. That includies:
Another big NFL weekend that included Tom Brady returning to Tampa to go broadcast the Buccaneers-Philly game nationally for Fox Sports. Is he improving? And, which host thinks Tony Romo is better/more engaged this year on the CBS national calls?
College football keeps scoring in the ratings on Fridays- we have the latest. Alabama-Georgia Saturday night was an EPIC regular season game and the guys go over ESPN's prime time crew and production matching the play on the field, too.
The guys also discuss the mid-week start to the postseason in MILB with the wildcard round of action getting going on ABC and ESPN over Tuesday and Wendesday. Mike goes over those who are calling the games for them, too.
There's talk about the ratings for the WNBA playoffs and whether they will take a larger hit with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever being out? This, despite the Las Vegas Aces going for a "3 peat" this year.
And, the guys have thoughts on the complicated story of Pete Rose and his baseball banishment that includes not being formally in the hall of fame. This upon his death on Monday.
It's all on the "Last Word on Sports Media" Podcast and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!! -
Off the final weekend of September with plenty of NFL, College Football, the MLB regular season concluding, etc., we're back in a new week with the latest of our "Daily" podcasts.
Host T.J. Rives returns with insight and takes on:
The "Fail Mary Part II" last second play in the Miami-Virginia Tech playoff game that saw the Hokies apparently catch the winning TD, have it called a TD with no time left and then, overturned on replay by the ACC command center for a Hurricanes win to remain unbeaten. How did the ESPN broadcasters and crew handle it?
Then, a tremendous finish for Alabama and Georgia in a wild SEC game between two top teams and a game that will likely be the SEC title game and maybe even a College Football Playoff game, too. How was that coverage?
Then, there's NFL, including Tom Brady's return to Tampa Bay with the Fox Sports #1 crew to broadcast the Bucs thumping of the Eagles Sunday afternoon. And, what about Jim Nantz and Tony Romo calling the Chiefs/Chargers game nationally for CBS, as well?
T.J. has more on the WNBA and Disney/ESPN/ABC not releasing any ratings info on Monday of this week on the Las Vegas Aces/NY Liberty afternoon game that went head to head with the NFL. However, they DID release on Monday afternoo the large audience (for them) that watched Caitlin Clark's playoff debut for Indiana against Connecticut last Sunday against the NFL. It's interesting and potentially an indication that the numbers weren't nearly as good and maybe, won't be without the transcendent Clark still playing.
There's also baseball wildcard mayhem still playing out with a Mets at Braves doubleheader Monday and the Arizona Diamondbacks waiting for the loser of both games to potentially put them in the post season. And, T.J. has more on the Wildcard games coming this week on ESPN networks and ABC too.
It's all on the "LWOS Media Daily" and follow/subscribe to this feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.! -

Where will former ESPN.com senior NBA writer Zach Lowe end up next? Mike has the odds!
Plus, props for Jason Benetti and his ‘beautiful call’ during Tigers’ improbable run to the post-season and the Oakland A's final home game coverage, as well.
It's all on the "LWOS Media Daily" and make sure to follow/subscribe on this feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.! -
It's the Thursday edition of the "daily" on the podcast feed and host T.J. Rives returns, while keeping an eye on Hurricane Helene roaring just west of him in the Gulf of Mexico and towards the panhandle of Florida, then into Georgia Friday.
While staying safe, T.J. discusses and reports on:
Caitlin Clark and her amazing story with the WNBA's Indiana Fever and their surging audience and attendance has come to an end for this season, as they were eliminated from the playoffs by the Connecticut Sun Wednesday night. What will this do to the overall audience, including the Las Vegas Aces going for a 3 peat?
Also, there's breaking news about ESPN/ESPN.com doing away with another prominent media member from their staff. We have more.
And, it's a big night for Amazon Prime as the Dallas Cowboys (the #1 draw in T.V. Sports by far) will play at the New York Giants Thursday night. Will this game smash audience highs for their football package? Will Al Michaels be enthused (as he should) to call this matchup?
We go over it all on the newest "Last Word on Sports Media Daily" and make sure to follow/subscribe to thiis feed for all the content on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc. -
It's the newest edtion of our Monday-Friday "daily" pod, Mike Gill is back with news involving NFL announcers and the Netflix Christmas Day broadcasts, the solid year that Sunday night baseball has put together for ESPN and what longtime Sportscenter anchor is now going to work part time with an NHL team?
Mike has more on how Fox Sports has reportedly denied Netflix's request to use their #1 team of Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady for one of their Christmas Day broadcasts coming up. What will the streamer that paid hundreds of millions for the two games end up doing for commentators?
Also, the ESPN/ABC Monday night doubleheader scored with audience, especially the Washington Commanders/Cincinnati Bengals game on ABC.
And guess who was back in the New York Yankees radio booth, just in time for the upcoming post season and also to call another Aaron Judge home run? Why, it was John Sterling on Tuesday night. Mike has more and his take on whether the Yankees are doing the right or wrong thing for the other announcers and confused fans by having Sterling unretire at the very end of the season?
It's all part of the "LWOS Media Daily" on this podcast feed and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!! -
Lots of football, both NFL and college, but some mix of the WNBA playoffs succeeding and some announcers doing it well are all part of the latest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast."
Host T.J. Rives returns with co-host Mike Gill to go over it all, including how did Tom Brady do on Fox Sports with his latest broadcast this past Sunday of Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys? The guys also talk whether the Monday night doubleheader for ESPN/ABC should become a permanent thing and which announce crew for the NFL does Mike really enjoy the best?
They also go over the college football numbers and how CBS won the week with the first ever USC vs. Michigan Big Ten regular season game in their afternoon slot. Is there SEC fatigue costing ESPN/ABC some audience? Although, it should rebound for Alabama and Georgia this coming Saturay? And, does the public care less now about "Coach Prime" and Colorado?
And, they also talk the WNBA playoffs going head to head with an NFL Sunday slate of acition and actually getting some audience (mostly due to Caitlin Clark playing). But, shouldn't they have been playing all of their games on Sunday night?
Finally, the guys sallute a couple of play by play guys who have been doing it well on the big time level with their calls last week.
Hear it all on the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast" for this week and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify/Google, etc.! -

Tons of NFL and College Football to discuss and much more as part of our newest "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast!"
Host T.J. Rives and co-host Mike Gill return to give the info and their takes on the compelling sports media stories and news for the week. That includes:
DirecTV got it's renewal deal with Disney/ESPN/ABC. Why did it happen and did they really get any thing in the standoff? The guys give the update.
Did ESPN Monday Night Football go too overboard with their praising and promoting of former Eagles center Jason Kelce on Monday night. He's a Superbowl hero in Philly and returned as part of their pregame coverage but he was on, over and over and over, with everything they did. That includes him being in the booth for a bunch of the 3rd and 4th quater with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Mike and T.J. have thoughts.
Next, was Tom Brady better in the Fox Sports TV booth Sunday wiht Saints/Cowboys? Mike saw it and was a harsh critic last week of his debut. Did he think Brady did beter?
What college football scored the best audience last week? It's not surprising.
Plus, T.J. updates the scary story of ESPN./SEC Network host Peter Burns disclosing publicly that he nearly choked to death at a meal with colleagues last Friday night in Missouri. Hear more about that.
