What's Old is New Again...
Luke and Larry started shooting muzzleloaders back in the past century, fueled somewhat by the "Jeremiah Johnson" movie. Larry started with kits for .50 Hawkens from both CVA and Thompson/Center. Luke followed suit a short time later. From there Larry started hunting with Tony Knight when he first released the revolutionary MK-85 and progressed from there. Around this campfire Luke and Larry talk about the changes they've seen from shooting patched balls and conical in slow-twist barrels to faster twist barrel shooting sabots, as well as going from blackpowder to modern day blackpowder substitutes and along the way tell an interesting anecdote or two.

With Christmas festivities behind them Luke and Larry are looking forward to new hunting and outdoor adventures. But not before they had the opportunity to hunt one of their favorite hunting places, the Cotton Ranch in Northeast Texas. Larry recently returned from his Alberta whitetail hunt with Ron Nemetchek's North River Outfitting, during which he experienced mild northern Alberta temperatures, along with little to no snow. In spite of a lack of good hunting weather Larry still saw over 120 bucks, albeit, young and small antlered by Alberta standards. Even though Larry did not pull the trigger, he had a great time as he explains in this week's episode. And, while Larry was in Alberta, Luke was hunting his home ground, and is frequently the case, Luke was after wild hogs as much as whitetail venison.
-
With Christmas just around the corner and some prime deer hunting still to be had throughout much of North America Luke and Larry talk about the value of hunting food sources, especially food plots as deer start recovering from the rigors of the rut and prepare for the lean days of winter looming on the horizon. Then they drift toward some Christmas gift ideas with emphasis on prime reading, from books to subscribing to Sporting Classics.
