Today we welcome Phil Hine back to the show to discuss his new book; Wheels within wheels.
Phil has been a practising Occultist for over forty-five years, with a career spanning Wicca, Ritual Magic, Chaos Magic and nondual Tantra. Together with Rodney Orpheus he co-created and edited the UK’s first monthly Pagan magazine, Pagan News (1988-92).His books include: Condensed Chaos, Prime Chaos, The Pseudonomicon, Hine’s Varieties: Chaos & Beyond, Acts of Magical Resistance and Queerying Occultures. In 2019 he founded Twisted Trunk, a small press specializing in publishing translations of rare Tantric texts.”
Wheels within Wheels examines the passage of chakras into Western Esotericism. Beginning with an overview of how chakras were conceptualized in early tantric traditions, Phil Hine traces how chakras captured the imagination of both Indian and European Theosophists in the late 19th century. He explores their appearance in the early Western Esoteric imagination, from the Christian mysticism of James M. Pryse to the practical exercises of Aleister Crowley. He examines the influence of Sir John Woodroffe’s The Serpent Power and the writings of Charles Webster Leadbeater, and how chakras were psychologized in the work of Jung, to their role in contemporary therapy culture.

Colby Sammons is a practicing sorcerer, occultist, and Buddhist specializing in Tibetan tantric sorcery. Today we welcome Briar of The Greene Chapel to the Spirit Box. Briar is a traditional witch, cunning woman, and fairy doctor. Her work is invested in the sorcerous duality of healing and harming and in furthering her relationship with the hidden by cultivating and deepening meaningful bonds with gods and ungods alike and exploring one’s own soul and psyche as Other.
With a scholarly background in comparative art and literature (PhD), Briar is a French native born and raised in the mountains and now currently living and working in the UK, being taught by the land here.
In the show we discuss how geographical boundaries overlap or don't in the spirit world and how language itself can be a portal. Briar takes us through her initiation and her meeting with the Dark Man. Towards the tail end of the show Briar takes us through her thoughts on Joan of Arc and the overlap with fairy lore.

Teila Verch Dywenys is a traditional witch and founder of The Cleaner Clootie Campaign, set up in 2018 in response to the growing proliferation of plastic objects left as offerings at her nearest Henge at Knowlton Grange in Dorset. Witnessing first hand how this trend has proliferated widely outside the Pagan Community (fuelled by social media and a disconnection from the original practice of clootie hanging) her aim is to realign the ancient tradition once more within its environmentally reverent origins by educating and by example ~ through the physical clearing of clootie impacted sites and by offering practical sustainable alternatives to plastic or permanent clooties.
Teila takes us through her extraordinary experiences with the fae on the land where she lives and her work with the Dark Man and Dark Mother.

Beginning in her early childhood, the world-famous trance medium and grande dame of parapsychology Eileen J. Garrett had numerous encounters with an entity she called the "Noble Stranger." When she asked his identity one day, this mysterious figure responded, "You may call me Lucifer."
Call me Lucifer: Dialogues with a Noble Stranger, features Garrett's writings about her encounters with this Noble Stranger, and reflections on her intellectual "duels with her Devil." The book includes extensive verbatim transcripts of Lucifer's communication with Garrett, together with Lucifer's Compendium of Guidance.
Though prepared with great care over the course of her life, the book has lain dormant in Garrett's family archives for decades. Her granddaughter, Lisette Coly, current President of the Parapsychology Foundation, has now decided that it should be shared with the public as an aid to our spiritual evolution.
Eileen J. Garrett (1893-1970) was an Irish medium and one of the most important figures in parapsychology. Despite her apparent psychic abilities, which were subjected to numerous tests by the most prominent researchers of the era.
Garrett maintained a lifelong healthy skepticism, always questioning the nature and meaning of her own extraordinary experiences. Her dedication to the objective, scientific study of psychical phenomena resulted in her establishing the Parapsychology Foundation, which published many books on the subject as well as the International Journal of Parapsychology, and the popular Tomorrow magazine.
Garrett was also something of a bon vivant, rubbing shoulders with everyone from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to Cecil B. DeMille, Aldous Huxley, Salvador Dalí, Robert Graves, Anaïs Nin, and Carl Jung to name but a few. Garrett herself was a prolific author, writing a number of novels as well as books on psychical research and three autobiographies

Hailing from Carlow, Ireland, David Halpin is a writer with a deep knowledge of Ireland’s fairy lore and pagan heritage. On his facebook blog, Circle Stories, he explores these themes in great depth. David is also the creative force behind Occult Book Review on Twitter and YouTube.
What I really love about David’s work is he is an active participant in preserving the lore and mythology of Ireland. He goes out and sees the stones and raths and teases their stories from them. Which provides us with a vital link to our past.
In the show David talks how fairy spirits of alleged different forms can manifest in the same ways. He gives his thoughts on the parallels with UFOs and we get into the differences and similarities between cities and rural places with fairies and go down a bit of a rabbit hole after the Pooka.In the plus show we get into the dangers of summoning the Good People and David regals us with a story of brushing up against the strange while on a trip to a remote stone circle. Nathaniel Gillis, an author and religious demonologist, with over two decades work under his belt following his experience in a haunted house. He has actively redefined the understanding of haunting phenomena, ghosts, and high strangeness and is frequently cited for his unique perspective on the demonic, emphasizing "The reason they are playing by different rules is because they are playing a different game,".
Nathaniel brings a unique twist to his exploration of the Devil, demons, and unclean spirits. In his research, he suggests a potential connection between these supernatural entities and aliens. This unconventional perspective that expands the boundaries of traditional demonology and explores the intersections between different realms of the paranormal.
Nathaniel posits the notion that demons engage in a form of self-replication through a process involving hybridism. According to this concept, these supernatural entities are believed to create hybrid beings through interactions with humans, which are often depicted as seductive demons. This unconventional theory suggests a link between the demonic realm and the potential for a unique form of reproduction, involving the creation of hybrid entities that share characteristics from both demonic and human origins. It is a speculative and imaginative interpretation within certain mythological and paranormal narratives.
In the plus show we get into what these spirits might want? We get into some deep stuff on hybridism and how this self-replication happens. To quote Nathaniel, possession to us is pregnancy to them. To close out Nathaniel goes into some of the cases he’s investigated.

For episode 28 of season 2 we welcome back the noble and scholarly Douglas Batchelor of the What Magic is This? A podcast for those curious about Magic, the Occult, Witchcraft, the Esoteric, the Paranormal and the Supernatural.Douglas has been doing sorcery and magic for close to 20 years. And has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Today we focus on how his practice and areas of interest have changed since his recent move to the west coast of Canada. And we discuss his recent patreon show on Isobel Gowdie, his remarkable memory and his ability to communicate complex ideas.The title for this show is a reference to a phrase used by John Moriarty in one of his many Irish radio interviews where he talked about not sitting well with the modern world and feeling its separation from nature acutely. Consequently he left his academic career and moved home to Ireland to Connemara in Co. Galway. The conversation with Douglas reminded me of Moriarty’s phrase not least because of their both moving to a rural location but in a topic that came up in the plus section of the show where we discuss the horror of poorly done TV and film adaptations. And how film becomes less story and more spectacle, that as a narrative form it is exhausted, the well has run dry. Born in Angola, Africa, David Beth is the co-owner of Theion Publishing and the founder of the Pandaemonic Current and Hierophant of its associated initiatic groups. University educated in Germany and the USA, he has received various Western esoteric transmissions and is well known for his past work as the former head of Michael Bertiaux’ Voudon Gnostic orders. For the past decade he has focused most of his attention on advanced work with a small group of dedicated esoteric students. Dr Christina Oakley-Harrington is Treadwell’s founder and presiding spirit. She was voraciously interested in spirituality and magic since childhood, and grew up in West Africa, Burma, and Chile, only moving to the West at the age of fifteen. In her early twenties, she was heartened to discover Europe’s own native religious traditions and has been a pagan ever since. A former academic, she left university life in 2001 to establish Treadwell’s. These days she serves as a consultant for programs and projects but is usually at the shop. She is the author of two books and numerous articles and was co-founder and literary editor of Abraxas: International Journal for Esoteric Studies.Today we discuss her new book from Black Letter Press - Dreams of Witches. Free, pagan, transgressive: worshippers of Pan, devotees of Diana. The men and women who meet under a full moon in the wild woods danced, sing, made music, and made love; in the home they make potions and mutter spells, be it to curse or cure.
The witch image infused the European imagination down the centuries, appearing in court records, prose, and poetry. The impulse the literature described finally became a practiced mystery religion in the twentieth century, in the form of Wicca as it coalesced in the New Forest in the 1930s and 30s. The poems and passages in this book illustrate the supportive imagination of the New Forest Coven and its most famous initiate, Gerald Gardner. They date from the late medieval period through the Edwardian age, and all were instrumental, influential - inspiring early pagans, and hopefully, too, readers today.

Dr Andrew Manns is a historian and the creator behind The Thinker’s Garden, a blog specialising in overlooked history. As editor, he has written and published a variety of historiettes on little-known Bohemians, occultists, and mystics, such as the “Los Angeles Noah” (Reverend J.E. Lewis), Lady Walburga Paget, and Baron Seymour Kirkup. He’s been on a mission to recover Ireland's lost stone lifting culture and has done so through our literature and folklore.We spoke all about his stone lifting journey from his lifting of the fianna stone in Scotland which inspired his own search in Ireland. Culminating in the rediscovery of the stone described by the famous Galway writer Liam O'Flaherty in his short story ‘The Stone’. He has rediscovered 30 testing stones, a remarkable act of reclamation and celebration of this lost tradition. Through this act David has created a remarkable and unique magical act of healing of the multi-generational trauma of Ireland's colonisation.
