  • HBO’s Boardwalk Empire has come to it’s inevitable conclusion, and A.Ron and Jim are at peace with it.  In fact, we think it’s beautiful and painful in a way that Boardwalk finales tend to be, if not more so.  Things get dusty when fathers say goodbye to sons, and brothers say goodbye to brothers, and we fret and rage as we see multiple generations of families self destruct before our very eyes.  It’s sad and wonderful and I’m very glad I came along for the ride.  Join us for 2+ hours of thoughts and emotions about the episode and the series as a whole from your two hosts and tons of your fellow fans.

  • In this Speakeasy podcast, covering episode 507 of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, “Friendless Child”, Jim talks A.Ron off a ledge, they decide to write their own perfect conclusion to the series, they marvel at the level of dishevelment Eli Thompson brings to bear, wonder at just how terrible Willie is at avoiding kidnappings and traps, and mourn the ignominious ends to Grandpa Gus and one Mickey Doyle.

  • Jim and A.Ron get down to the business of talking about episode 506 of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, “Devil You Know”.  We say good bye to some old friends, witness shocking introductions in the Silver Age, observe more evidence of #9’s identity, and watch Nucky engage in a riveting game of Strip Epic Poetry Recital.  All this plus your awesome feedback, as always.

  • Jim and A.Ron cover the mid-point of Boardwalk Empire, episode 504, “Cuanto”.  We ponder the ultimate fate of Nucky, if the Commodore and Sheriff Hammer are playing good cop / bad cop with Lil’ Nucky’s soul, if Capone is playing possum about knowledge of Jimmy Darmondy, and consider the many charms of drunken Margaret.

  • Welcome back to The Speakeasy, where we consider episode 503 of Boardwalk Empire, “What Jesus Said.”  Jim and A.Ron talk about the surfeit of “boys” and “uckys” in Boardwalk, smooth dialog, the sad state of Nucky’s nightclub in the hands of Mickey Doyle, Joe Kennedy’s teetotaling, childhood sweethearts, the return of Marge, and theorize on the various impending collisions of our favorite characters.

  • Jim and A.Ron break down a very “boardwalky” episode of Boardwalk Empire, “The Good Listener”.  We talk about the Kennedy Family Empire, speculate on who Gillian is corresponding with, marvel at Stephen Graham’s performance as the coke/syphilis addled Capone, and ponder how Nucky’s childhood informs our understanding of Nucky the man.  All this, plus your feedback, and a very special discussion about the State of Bald Move.

  • Boardwalk Empire is officially back, and we’re here to cover its swan song.  A.Ron is more than a little nervous about all the apparently pointless and redundant flashbacks when coming to grips with a shortened season that starts off with a huge time leap.  What happened to A.R.?!  Where the hell is Eli and Capone?!  CHAULKY’S IN PRISON?!  Jim helps talk A.Ron down off the ledge as we break down all the action from the premiere.

  • Jim and A.Ron embark on a new venture, as they open The Speakeasy, their podcast covering the final season of HBO’s fantastic Boardwalk Empire.  Join us as we discuss why BWE is so criminally underrated, how the show will deal with its Margaret problem, how Winter and company will deal with the 7 year flash forward, the difficulties of casting a young Steve Buscemi, and A.Ron grapples with his disappointment at only getting eight episodes to say goodbye and frustration with the USA’s drug policy, AKA Prohibition 2.0.
