Stacy and Meghan return with another mini-episode discussing the music and lyrics of Djo, also known as Joe Keery, to build excitement for the upcoming tour and new album. In each episode, we discuss two songs and explore the themes, interpretations of the lyrics, and our personal connections to the music. In this conversation, we cover the first song on Djo’s 2022 album Decide, ‘Runner,’ which sets the tone of the album while exploring the transient nature of fame and money. Then we finally talk about the emotional depth and beauty of Stacy’s favorite song, ‘Figure You Out,’ including the layers of complexity in the music and the raw emotion conveyed through the vocals. An in-depth discussion of Chapter Three: The Case of the Missing Lifeguard. In this episode of Skull Rock Broadcast, hosts Meghan and Stacy brave the storm and channel their inner Nancy Drew to investigate 'The Case of the Missing Lifeguard.' The episode is rich with symbolism, particularly the stormy weather reflecting the brewing tensions in Hawkins. We start out at the ultimate 80s sleepover with Max and Eleven, with a supernatural spin, but they see something unsettling happening with Billy. For the rest of the episode, they follow the clues to figure out what is going on with him. Mike and Lucas are too busy worrying about their (ex-)girlfriends to get into Will’s D&D campaign, which leads to an emotional moment between Will and Mike and Will violently mourning the loss of his childhood by destroying Castle Byers. Hopper isn’t happy with Joyce after she stood him up at Enzo’s to spend time with Scott Clarke, but he humors her and takes her to explore the lab, where they find more than what they bargained for. Our own Nancy is also putting together clues about what is happening with the rats and the missing fertilizer, but when the rest of the Hawkins Post staff shoots her down, she decides she needs more proof. Over at Starcourt, Dustin and Steve are the worst spies ever and Robin cracks the code, in one of the most entertaining Scoops Troop storylines. The episode concludes with a creepy dinner scene with Heather's family and a shocking ending set to 'American Pie.’ In the episode we also discuss various other topics like childhood memories related to lightning safety, the impressive transitions from scene to scene, and cinematic references to horror films. In our merch segment, Stacy unboxes a mystery box filled with some great Stranger Things goodies. Support our show and access bonus content at https://www.patreon.com/skullrockbroadcast

An in-depth discussion of Chapter Two: The Mall Rats. "We in it” and we’re back with another Season 3 episode! One of our absolute favorite episodes of all time, this episode includes Max showing Eleven that there is “more to life than stupid boys” while they go shopping together at Starcourt Mall. Dustin and Steve are reunited with the most epic secret handshake that demonstrates the unlikely friendship that has developed between them since bonding over buckets of beef last season. When Steve tries to help with a translation, it turns out his new co-worker Robin might be the better person for the job. We also chat about Nancy and Jonathan investigating the literal rats and Joyce taking a little field trip to learn more about magnets (and standing Jim up for their date at Enzo’s). Cue Madonna and get ready for the fun and chaos of this conversation. Support our show and access bonus content at https://www.patreon.com/skullrockbroadcast

In this episode of Skull Rock Broadcast, hosts Stacy and Meghan finally dive into Season 3 of Stranger Things, exploring the vibrant summer of 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana. We discuss the exciting new locations, character dynamics, and the nostalgic elements that make this season stand out. From the opening scene in a Russian lab to the introduction of the Starcourt Mall and Hawkins Community Pool, we touch on the cultural references and the significance of the 80s setting. We follow the new adventures of our favorite characters, including Dustin Henderson returning from summer camp with some exciting news, Steve Harrington slinging ice cream and striking out with girls at Scoops Ahoy, Mike Wheeler and Eleven exploring their budding romance, much to Hopper’s chagrin, and Nancy (Drew) Wheeler’s misadventures at her summer internship. With the release of Basic Being Basic, we finally have new music from Joe Keery aka Djo, and we thought it would be fun to revisit this Hawkins Community Pool bonus episode that was recorded on July 26 and originally posted here on July 29, 2024. In this episode we are joined by Kelly @djokeerydaily, who was our first ever guest on the podcast on our 'end of beginning' episode, right before the viral success of the song of the same name. Kelly returned to break down the Djo social media drama with "Corey," right when the End of Beginning remixes dropped. We also discussed our theories about the imminent new album (which is now confirmed), and celebrated the recent success of Joe Keery with his music as well as acting projects like Fargo, Marmalade, and Pavements. If our theories got a little bit delusional... it's all in good fun! We’ve literally never laughed more on a podcast episode.
We also chatted about some of our favorite interviews Joe did in the time before this episode. You can listen to the Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe here where Joe talks about breaking a lot of eggs (coincidentally, we have a track called EGG on the new album). The Switched on Pop interview is here, the Wonderland preview can be found here, and the CHARLIE’S GARDEN playlist is here (and is also another track title)! There are still a lot of mysteries left to solve, like what was the leaked voice note? And was Corey actually posting lyrics to the new songs all along? But we are pretty sure we were right when we said, IT’S ALL A PUZZLE, as Joe literally revealed the cover of The Crux one puzzle piece at a time over the last couple of weeks. We are looking forward to Joe continuing to bring his creativity and sense of humor back to social media, and can’t wait to listen to the new music!

An in-depth discussion of Chapter Nine: The Gate, the ninth episode of Season 2 of Stranger Things. This final episode of our season 2 re-watch is also the final episode of the second season of our podcast! We are so excited to finally bring you the thrilling conclusion to the most slept-on season of Stranger Things. After a quick update on the lead-up to new Djo music from Joe Keery, we pick up right where we left off last time. The emotional reunion between El and Mike is short-lived as they realize they need El to be their superhero and close the gate. Mike Wheeler once again comes through for Will as he realizes that they can’t close the gate while his friend is still connected to the Mind Flayer’s hive mind. Joyce realizes that they need to burn the virus out of her son’s body, so the group splits ways once again. El and Hopper head to the lab and the Byers family drives to the cabin with Joyce’s stockpile of electric heaters in tow. Steve is an absolute saint, telling Nancy that she should go with Jonathan and staying behind on babysitting duty. When an unexpected visitor turns up, Steve and the kids have to fight him off together before the kids get their way and drag him along to join the fight in the tunnels. The epic battle rages on as the whole party fights the monster from different angles, and Meghan and Stacy discuss their thoughts about the shadow monster, whether demo-dogs are inherently evil (RIP Dart), and the connections to season 4 in this episode. An in-depth discussion of Chapter Eight: The Mind Flayer, the eighth episode of Season 2 of Stranger Things. Meghan and Stacy have FINALLY made it back to Lover’s Lake and find themselves almost finished with the season 2 re-watch. We dive deep into this fantastic episode that brings all three of our groups back together to escape from monsters pouring from the lab … but not everyone makes it out alive. We talk about the heartbreaking end to one of the most pure characters in the show, Stacy admits that Mike is actually the MVP in this episode, and the demo-dogs and Mind Flayer get their names. We love how stressed-out Steve and “voice of reason” Max finally find themselves a real part of the team in this episode.
