Lesson 69:
[THE RULING ON PREFERRING ALI OVER UTHMAN]
However, some of Ahlus Sunnah differ concerning (the ranking of) Uthman and Ali with regards to superiority, after having agreed upon giving precedence to Abu Bakr and Umar. Some people gave precedence to Uthman, remained silent, or placed Ali in fourth place. Others gave precedence to Ali, and yet others did not voice an opinion.
However, the affair of Ahlus Sunnah settled with their placing Uthman before Ali.
Even though, in the view of the majority of Ahlus Sunnah, this issue, i.e. the issue of Uthman and Ali, is not one of the fundamental issues such that anyone who opposes it is considered to be misguided.
However, one is ruled to be misguided if he opposes them in the matter of the Khilafah. This is because they believe that the Khalifah after the Prophet ﷺ was Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthman and then Ali. Whoever reviles the Khilafah of any of these is more misguided than his domesticated donkey.

Lesson 63 - Hadith #24 (Part 1)
The hadith qudsi of Abu Dharr al-Ghifaree : 'O My servants! I have forbidden oppression for Myself, and I have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me and I shall guide you ...'

Lesson 68:
They testify that those who the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated (were in Paradise) are in Paradise such as the Ten, Thabit Ibn Qays Ibn Shammas and other companions.
They accept what has been reported via multiple routes from the Leader of the Believers, Ali Ibn Abi Talib, and others, that the best of this nation, after its Prophet ﷺ, are Abu Bakr then Umar. They place Uthman in third place and Ali in fourth . This is proven by the narrations and is proven by the Companions unanimously agreeing on giving precedence to Uthman (over Ali) for the pledge of allegiance.

Lesson 62 - Hadith #23 (Part 3)
The hadith of al-Harith bin Asim al-Asharee: 'Purity is half of Imaan, Alhamdulillah fills the scales, and Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah together fill what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light, charity is proof, and patience is illumination, and the Qur’an is a proof either for you or against you. Every person starts his day as a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or causing its ruin.'

Lesson 67:
They accept what the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus mention of their virtues and rankings. As such they give precedence to those who spent (in charity) and fought before the Conquest, which is the treaty of Hudaybiyah, over those who spent and fought after it.
They also place the Muhajiroon before the Ansaar.
They believe that Allah said to the people of Badr who numbered more than three hundred: Do whatever you wish, for I have forgiven you. They believe that no one who pledged allegiance under the tree will enter the Fire as mentioned by the Prophet; indeed (they believe) that Allah was pleased with them and they with Him; and they numbered more than one thousand four hundred people.

Lesson 66:
[OBLIGATIONS TOWARDS THE COMPANIONS AND A MENTION OF THEIR VIRTUES]
One of the fundamentals of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah is the purity of their hearts and tongues towards the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It is with this that Allah, Most High, has described them: 'Those who have come after them say: 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in Imaan. Do not put any resentment in our hearts towards those who have Imaan. Our Lord, You are All-Gentle, Most Merciful.’ ' [al-Hashr: 10]
They also obey the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: 'Do not abuse my Companions, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, ifany one of you spend gold like Uhud (in charity) it will not equal a mudd, or even a half, of what they spend in charity.' [Bukhari, Muslim]

Lesson 65:
They do not divest the sinner who is on the path (of Islam) of Islam in its entirety, nor do they believe that he will stay in Hell forever as the Mu'tazilah state.
Rather, the sinner falls under the banner of absolute Imaan (al-imaan al-mutlaq), as Allah, Most High, says: 'You should free a believing slave.' [al-Nisaa’: 92]
It is also possible that they may not enter under the banner of absolute Imaan, as Allah, Most High, says: 'The believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and whose faith is increased when His Signs are recited to them.' [al-Anfaal: 2]
The Prophet ﷺ also said: 'The adulterer, when committing adultery, is not a believer. The thief, when stealing, is not a believer. The person drinking alcohol, when drinking, is not a believer. The one who forcibly steals something of value, and people raise their eyes to look at him doing it, is not a believer when he steals.' [Bukhari, Muslim]
We say that such a person is a believer with a deficiency in his Imaan, or he is a believer by virtue of his Imaan and a sinner by virtue of his sin. As such he is not granted the title in its absolute sense (al-ism al-mutlaq) and neither is he divested of the title in its essence (mutlaq al-ism).

Lesson 59 - Hadith #22
The hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansaree that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : ‘Do you think that if I perform the obligatory prayers, fast in Ramadan, make the permissible halal, make the forbidden haram, and do not increase upon that, then I shall enter Paradise?’ He ﷺ replied: 'Yes'.

Lesson 64:
They believe that Imaan increases with obedience and decreases with disobedience.
However, alongside this, they do not rule the People of the Qiblah as disbelievers because of every sin, or every major sin, (mutlaq al-ma’asi wal-kaba'ir) that they may commit as done by the Khawarij. Rather, brotherhood in Imaan remains even in the presence of sins, as Allah, Glorious is He, says in the verse dealing with retribution: 'But if someone is absolved by his brother, blood money should be claimed with correctness.' [al-Baqarah: 178]
And He says: 'If two parties of the believers fight, make peace between them. But if one of them attacks the other unjustly, fight the attackers until they revert to Allah's command. If they revert, make peace between them with justice, and be even-handed. Allah loves those who are even-handed. The believers are brothers to one another, so makereconciliation between your brothers. [al-Hujurat: 9-10]

[THE ESSENCE OF IMAAN AND THE RULING REGARDING THOSE WHO COMMIT MAJOR SINS]
Amongst the fundamentals of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah is that religion and Imaan comprise speech and deeds: speech of the heart and the tongue and deeds of the heart, tongue, and limbs.
