Well, folks. Here we are. 365 days in a row writing on LinkedIn. Rain or shine. Without fail.
Kind of hard to believe, especially considering the year it’s been.
I’ve written from many locations in the world:
Trains in Switzerland, mountains in Europe, planes, Lyfts, airports, hotels, restaurants, Chicago, Death Valley, Louisiana, yoga studios, football games, gyms, the stair stepper, my car, my friend’s car, my friend’s friend’s car, New Jersey, Palm Springs, San Diego, Portland, LA, Austin, Minnesota, Kelowna, emergency rooms, my home, my parent's home -
The list is literally endless.
But regardless where we were in the world, or what was going on,
The work got done. The writing got published.
One day. One post.
At a time.
I’ve developed a very personal relationship with writing throughout this experience.
Writing has been my therapist.
My confidant.
My superpower.
My release.
It’s brought me clarity and confusion, direction and wonder, worry and excitement, laughter and tears.
It’s re-triggered forgotten dreams, and sparked dreams for others.
It's even brought me incredible connections and friends with people I would have never met otherwise.
It's challenged me to grow in ways I never thought I would, and forced me to continuously show up for others, and for myself.
It takes a lot for me to feel a strong sense of pride... but this one feels good.
And just to think it all started with one simple question from friend and mentor, Ian Koniak:
“𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓-𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆?”
Surround yourself with high caliber people, lead a high caliber life.

The entire trajectory of my life was altered this year with these two ideas:
1. Trusting my gut
2. The quote below 👇🏽
Let’s start with the quote in one of Sahil Bloom’s newsletters that, when I read it, stopped me dead in my tracks:
“𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰?
”When making big, scary, potentially life-altering decisions, it can prove valuable to step out of your own situation, detach from the emotions, and see things from a bird’s eye view.
A “unique vantage point,” Sahil mentions, to see the bigger picture and surrounding landscapes.
An external perspective usually doesn’t hurt. Sometimes, even makes things obvious. ——Second - trusting your gut.
Easier said than done. They say you have a second brain - the one in your gut.
I’m starting to question if that might actually be our first brain.
Rooted in the subconscious, supernatural, mystical realms of life.
Something you can feel, but can’t quite explain.
But only you truly know what you feel. Because our other brain will argue head over heart all day.
And justify decisions with logic, ration, and reason, that makes total sense.
And thank God for that brain.
We need it. Especially in life or death situations.
Or making a data-driven business decision.
But, deep down, our gut instinct is a very powerful sense of reality, 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 reality, that is crucial to lean into.
And trust - no matter how scary it might be. You know when you’re going against it, and you know when you’re aligned.
From the wise words of Sahil’s grandfather:
𝑫𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒖𝒕.
So as we approach a new year, I encourage you to ask yourself:
What would 𝒚𝒐𝒖 be screaming at yourself to do right now… in the movie of your life?
And when you answer that question, trust it.
Do like Steve Jobs and, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”

I had a goal to have my house ready for rent by my 32nd birthday

With the official listing going live the very next day ✅
Things were slow until I made some big decisions and stopped trying to do everything on my own...

Over the years I have spent over $20k on coaching and personal development (and I guess this is not even counting the books, audibles, MasterClass, and all the other programs not top of mind).
Here's my #1 piece of investing advice: investing in YOURSELF is the #1 investment you can ever make.
Ain’t no stock, mutual fund, crypto token, or real estate investment that will ever beat an investment in yourself.
There is uncapped ROI when you bet on yourself,
And a better you will ALWAYS beat any market.
This can come in many shapes, forms, and sizes:
• Personal trainer in the gym
• Nutritionist or quality food system
• Taking a skill-specific course
• Or simply taking some time off for yourself
Personally - I made a decision last year to invest in my own career development by joining Ian Koniak’s development program: Untap Your Sales Potential
It was the most money I’d ever invested in myself, and I was pretty nervous.
The kicker, however, is I made back my money in the first month in the program.
The next 11 months was simply playing with house money.
And the next 70 years… who even knows.
They say interest compounds.
Well so does learning.
Never stop learning.

About a year ago I had a terrible quarter when I was working at DocuSign.
One of those seasons where nothing goes your way:
• Deals slip
• Timing’s off
• Budgets freeze
• Commits go Closed/Lost
• Confidence plummets
In baseball we call it a slump, and I was pushin’ that Mendoza line.
Anyway, I let myself feel what I needed to feel in order to process what happened, and the very next morning I sat down with a pen and this yellow piece of paper.
And I got to work.
Wrote down any “Sales Fundamental” I could think of that has helped me in the past.
And here’s what I came up with:
• Be engaged!
• Active Listening - LISTEN!
• Always schedule a next step
• Be responsive
• SIMPLE FOCUS: build pipe & close deals
• Time Blocking + Execution
• Daily Dials - 10 calls before 10am• Plan Your Attack, Attack Your Plan
• Follow-Up Emails -> immediately
• Avoid social media & digital distraction
• Always Ask for the Offer (AAFTO)
• Meetings (High Value) -> Pipeline -> Closed Deals
• Keep LEARNING!
• HAVE FUN!
Since I wrote this list, I’ve either hit my number each quarter or been pretty damn close. And more important than the number, I feel really proud about the inputs.
I also noticed something interesting…These seem less “sales” focused and more just “how to excel at really anything you want to do and achieve in life”…There’s definitely a couple sales & business specifics in there, but looks like a pretty solid list for overall personal growth and being a professional.

“Please don’t try to go over it. Just go around.”
Me talking to myself about the sprinkler when mowing the lawn a couple week’s back.
So what did I do? Of course, tried to go up and over.
And absolutely demolished the sprinkler head. Nice. Set out to just mow the lawn and now have an entire sprinkler system to fix.
After cussing myself out for the first 30 seconds (more like 15 minutes), I kept mowing and then decided that this was the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill.
You know, adopt an opportunistic mindset like we often talk about and turn a negative into a positive.
(Easier said than done)But when we can take a breath, remove emotions, and stay neutral, we can choose to RESPOND instead of simply reacting.
So I finished mowing, collected the shrapnel, and started watching a YouTube video on how to fix sprinklers.
Then, I had a breakthrough idea:Let’s work smarter, not harder, and ask someone who actually knows how to do this instead of trying to figure it out on my own.

So I went and knocked on my neighbor's door, he assessed the situation, gave me my marching orders, and off I went to plug the hole and head to Ace Hardware.
I returned with my prized possession and excited to learn how to fix this thing. Not only did we fix it, but I learned how the entire irrigation system works along with some incredible personal stories we would have otherwise never connected on.
As with anything in life, how we deal with inconveniences and adversity tolerance will dictate the quality of our life and outcomes we create.Event + Response = Outcome

In a rather silly (but very current reality) example, I talk about why I decided to not personally paint my house, and instead am outsourcing it to the pros so I can do the things that only I can truly do (and that I do best).

To do more of what you love, and get your greatest ROI.

If there’s one thing I’ve become certain of in life
It’s that change is inevitable.
We can’t escape it. Can’t avoid it. Change is hard. Change is scary. It can be sad. And it can hurt.
What I’ve also learned,
Is that change can be a good thing. It can be exciting. Shedding of the old you. Making way for the new.
And as a past mentor and legendary coach Trevor Moawad would say: “Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.”
What I’m learning in this season of life is that we must be ready for that growth. We must be willing and able to embrace the opportunity for growth,
And engage it directly when the time is right. But let me be clear. We must feel the feelings. Address the emotions. Sit with them. And not run.
If they could ask you a question, what would they ask?Scary? Yes.
But not too scary.
Big feelings? Yes. But not too big.
