This week we welcome back Kyle Traynor to the podcast to discuss his passion for business development and education. Kyle is the founder of Elite Vitality Mastery, an educational organization for business owners in the fitness industry that provides the knowledge required to attain personal potential and create financial freedom. He also hosts the podcast Pivotal Conversations where he provides free content around successful business development.
Kyle provides insight into the approach for Elite Vitality Mastery with a brief discussion of the 3 pillars of a successful business model: Cash Flow, Intelligence and Branding. Kyle relays the importance of learning how to keep money, not just making more of it, as most other “business coaches” in the industry tend to advise. The duo discuss the place of social media in business and how a large following does not necessarily equate to a large income. Jordan revisits his metaphor of the three-legged stool, in which a strong foundation for any business or personal plan involves standing on multiple, well developed principles. Kyle and Jordan chew on: the notion of developing a brand and its role in entrepreneurial success, how much “hard work” is really involved in building your business, and the personal attributes of adaptability, self-awareness and self criticism. Make sure to check out Kyle’s soon-to-be released Steel in the Walls Program to learn more!

This week, Jordan Shallow has the pleasure to sit down with Dr. Adeel Khan, an expert in regenerative medicine who specializes in interventional orthopedics. Dr. Khan has office locations in southern Ontario, Canada, and has treated a wide range of clientele, particularly professional athletes from the NBA, NFL, NHL and The Crossfit Games. He is the Research Director for HD Muscle, and as far as we’re concerned, the best regenerative medicine practitioner in Canada.
In this episode, Dr.Khan does a fantastic job to break down the history of regenerative medicine as well as some of the misconceptions and misunderstandings about the field. He explains several topics, including the misnomer behind the term “stem cells,” the spectrum of treatments within the field of regenerative medicine, and how it all actually works. He talks about the injuries and conditions that PRP injections are used to treat, and walks us through a brief discussion on the pain and risks associated with bone injections. The duo discuss “a day in the life” of patient treatments as well as the legal restrictions on the field, and the epidemic of poor quality treatment that leads Dr. Khan to trust very few in the industry. Tune in for a mind-blowing episode this week as we dive deep into the medical field to discuss where regenerative treatments have been, where they are now, and where they may be going in the future! Thanks for joining us!

Today, RX’D Radio is honored to welcome Mark Coles to the podcast to discuss his career in business coaching for fitness professionals. Mark is an impressively qualified business coach, personal trainer, body builder and owner of M10 Gym in Nottingham, UK. Mark coaches budding fitness professionals with the intention of spreading passion across and creating impact within the industry.
The conversation begins with the problem that Mark sees as the most common amongst his clients: new trainers tend to over-exaggerate both the successes of those around them as well as those of the mentors to whom they compare themselves. The effect of social media on the growth of the industry is highlighted and leads Mark to discuss the importance of defining an individual’s personal identity, passions, and goals for business and life in order to drive his or her success. Mark walks us through the “aha” moment in his career that changed his perspective to focus on creating impact within the industry, and he tells us the steps he took to get there. The duo discusses the critical importance of sticking to your passions, putting in the work, and surmounting the inevitable self doubt one will face in order to build a business that will never leave you worried about money in the morning. Turn it up!

This week, Jordan Shallow welcomes his partner in crime to RX’D Radio! Kayla Lee is a Physiotherapist, Exercise and Sport Scientist, and a coach. She uses her breadth of experience to provide an evidence-based approach to training and education for fitness, nutrition and rehabilitation.
Today the team discusses the topic of coaching and training female clientele. Kayla takes the floor to discuss the various physiological stages that the female body progresses through over time, the astounding lack of education and awareness around those processes, and how it all applies to training. She touches on the female menstrual cycle and how it can be used as an asset rather than a frustrating barrier to success in training. They take on the subject of male coaches and educators in the industry who blatantly lack understanding of female physiology but who choose to express their opinions about it anyway. Kayla reviews the development of her latest 8 week online course that unites her breadth of research and personal experience to provide an applied education on women’s physiology and training. As a highlight, we receive insight into what Kayla identifies as the most important tool in any coach’s toolbox when working with female clientele - empathy - and the power it can have to foster the trainer-client relationship.

This week on RX’D Radio, Jordan Shallow sits down with Lachy Rowston and Raph Freedman of The Mind Muscle Project. Started in October 2014, their podcast platform is focused on education, quality conversation and sharing truth within the fitness and nutrition industry. Lachy and Raph are also co-owners of Creature Fitness Gyms in the Bondi and Edgecliff areas of Australia.
Today’s discussion centers about the importance of interpersonal relationships within business. Choosing to open their first gym location during a time when the crossfit industry was dying, Raph and Lachy walk us through the challenges they faced and the principles that they have turned to in order to make their business a success. They emphasize the importance of choosing partners wisely, how to navigate their own business relationship with honesty, and they discuss a healthy approach to resolve conflict. The group talks ethics and long-game decisions versus short-term gains, and how Raph and Lachy have strategically used the leverage they have gained to grow their business for the long haul. Listen in for a tale of confrontation from the early days of Jordan and Jordan, as well as a very clear outline of three core principles to build a successful business with longevity.

This week Jordan Jiunta is joined by Kevin Doherty for a brief but insightful look into Kevin’s development as an exceptional weightlifting coach for youth athletes. Kevin is the owner of Hassle Free Barbell Club in San Francisco California and works as the Head Weightlifting Coach at Lincoln High School.
Kevin walks us through his life as an athlete and the development of his career as a teacher and coach to youth weightlifters. As a 21 year old geometry teacher, Kevin discovered weightlifting for his own athletic interest through his colleagues in the teaching community. After years of training and competing as an athlete himself, he began coaching youth football athletes at Lincoln High School. This launched an array of opportunities as he went on to produce multiple world-level youth weightlifting competitors and highly successful football and track and field athletes. Kevin continues to enjoy coaching weightlifting as both a main sport and addition to strength training programs for high school athletes, he also briefly discusses how he has had to adapt his processes in order to continue to provide quality coaching during Covid-19.

John Sheridan joins Jordan Shallow this week on RX’D Radio to discuss his experience in powerlifting and the development of his career as a strength coach and small business owner. John is the owner, head coach and “Bearded Overlord” of Burley Strength gym in Canberra, Australia, and the creator of Peak Speak Podcast.
The conversation begins with a recalling of catastrophic injuries witnessed at high-level powerlifting meets, a discussion about John’s extensive coffee knowledge, and his appreciation of quality products from small purveyors. John walks us through the moment that diverted his path from athlete to strength coach and explains the “No Dickheads” policy that is the foundation of the community at Burley Strength gym. Jordan and John align in their fundamental belief that fear is a precursor to growth -- that it is necessary to challenge both mind and body to live life to the fullest. John reflects on how Covid-19 has affected Burley Strength, Jordan recalls his 1 am encounter with a cockroach, and both discuss how they themselves are “flying by the seat of their pants,” perhaps much like the rest of us living on this planet right now. This week Jordan Shallow welcomes fellow Canadian meathead Stu Locke to RX’D Radio. Stu has been a personal trainer at GoodLife Fitness for many years, and utilizes a highly effective but simple approach to training. Stu has been an advisor to Shallow, and his perspective to training and coaching is one that Shallow trusts and frequently calls upon. Stu owns Kodiak Barbell in Ottawa.
Stu and Shallow discuss the major training strategies, cues and corrective work that Stu uses to address form breakdown in the squat. The conversation then takes a turn towards the subjects of the business of coaching, and life outside of the gym. They discuss the value of education versus experience, and evaluate the differences between the methods of training for conventional sports and competitive powerlifting. Stu believes in being in the business of people; he understands the devotion that it requires to reach the podium, and he promotes living a life that encompasses more than just the barbell.

This week, RX’D Radio brings you a particularly compelling episode, with Dr. Jordan Shallow and guest, Derek Woodske. A top-ranking Canadian Track & Field athlete, Derek is a seasoned strength coach and educator who has trained athletes in the NCAA, NFL, and on multiple University Track and Field teams. Originally from a nowhere town in British Columbia, Canada, Derek has lived and worked internationally, and he now runs his own consulting business out of Mammoth Lakes, California.
Shallow and Woodske discuss their experiences growing up in small Canadian towns and contrast social systems and governance between Canada and the US. Derek leads an adventurous life, and these adventures have provided him an interesting and expansive perspective on the state of the world. He recounts travelling to Saudi Arabia to be a coach and trainer to Princess Sara, and working in Riyadh through ISIS. He subsequently suffered PTSD from those experiences, and he talks about the myriad, complex ramifications and manifestations of trauma. In this episode, the two dig into: the concept of social media as a differentiating factor in understanding current versus historical events, the higher value of spreading good to those you encounter in your day-to-day life, and... Zac Brown. Derek is a force of positive energy in the world, and his appreciation of life’s nuanced details make this episode one you do not want to miss!

This week on RX’D Radio, Jordan Shallow is joined by the unconventional and impressive Nick Gloff. Nick is only 22, but his short trajectory through life has been anything but uneventful.
In this episode, we get to know Nick: through a pivotal moment at age 12; through his journey out of obesity and into football; as a really strong bodybuilder. Each of these events has provided him a source of motivation, and training has been the greatest vehicle to teach him how to strive for excellence. The duo dive into their approach to programming and the importance of always challenging your own knowledge. Strong topics covered in this episode include comprehension of “first principles intent-based programming”, proving concepts from experience rather than preaching general knowledge, and the great frustration behind the all-encompassing smoke-bomb platitude, “it depends”. Tune in for a wild ride!

Powerlifter and aspiring chiropractor, Seth Albersworth joins Jordan Shallow this week on RX’D Radio. Originally from north of Calgary, Canada, Seth is currently studying in a chiropractic college in Florida and lifting out of Perfect Storm Hardcore Training Gym. Seth is a highly competitive Multi-Ply Powerlifter with a long list of incredible achievements behind his name.
Seth and Shallow talk about Seth’s transition into powerlifting while recovering from a shoulder injury, his journey from Raw to Single to Multi-Ply lifting, and his impressive feats of strength including a 700 lb squat he performed at the age of nineteen. The two discuss how their clinical knowledge impacts their approach to both lifting and training, the differences between classroom theory and practical application of those theories, and the hurdles of transitioning from in-person to on-line coaching. Seth highlights the steep learning curve he experienced in creating valuable and high quality online content. Turn up the volume for an education on the proper performance of a box squat, a Canadian’s perspective on (bizarre) living in Florida, and a consummate discourse pertaining to fake people on the interwebs.

The boss men, Jordan Shallow and Jordan Jiunta are reunited to discuss the release of RX’D Programming. This episode gets into the heart and soul of Pre-Script.
RX’D Programming is the reason that The Jordans started this business in the first place. They dive into the principles of an appropriate and intentional warm-up routine, and the purpose that it serves to prime you for your day’s training, whatever that training may be!
Based on the principles that founded Pre-Script, RX’D Programming is intentionally designed to address the mobility and stability of the hip, shoulder and spine: Mobility-Stability-Strength™.
Range of motion helps to address stability, and with functional stability of the joint comes an increase in force output under load.
Without mobility and stability, THERE IS NO STRENGTH.
The Pre-Script team is very proud to get to talk about this with you in today’s RX’D Radio, and we’re very excited to hear what you have to say about it.
PREPARATION IS RECOVERY.
Of course, you can expect the usual banter, shade-throwing, and some occasional side-eye from the duo this week, too.
GET RX’D PROGRAMMING, and GET MOVING.

This week, RX’D Radio welcomes the return of Pre-Sript’s Head Coach in Canada, Killian Hamilton, as well as Powerlifter and Real Estate Entrepreneur, Marcus Leoni. Jordan Shallow and his guests flex their brains in this episode as they talk philosophy and share book titles.
The trio discuss the morals and messages underlying the works and how they relate to the current state of society under quarantine. Rebellion as an expression of individual truth threads a common theme throughout, and the primal nature of humans at odds with the stressors of modern society exemplifies that theme. Contemplating life in the Serengeti, The Scorpion and the Frog, and musing on such controversial topics as religion, stoicism, naziism and the perpetuation of fear make this episode one you should definitely turn up!

Women are built differently than men. Following a training program that gets the best results for a man may not work all that well for a woman. There may be adjustments needed on volume, intensity, position, etc. But these slight adjustments can lead to better performance.
In today’s episode of RX’D Radio, Shallow and Jiunta are joined by Kayla as they talk about alterations in training based on gender differences. They share their own experiences and knowledge on the changes needed. The predisposition of a person, muscle fiber type, hormones, morphology, and receptivity are some things they discuss as they go over how each affects the movement and performance of a person.
