  • Embracing the Five Pillars of Leadership

In this episode, I speak with Bernie Borges from Florida about his approach to leadership and the vital role of self-awareness in shaping leadership styles. We explore how leaders can better support their teams by focusing on the five key pillars of life: health, fitness, career, relationships, and legacy. Bernie discusses how leaders, who understand and fulfill these pillars for themselves, can lead with empathy, creating an environment that nurtures both personal and team growth. He shares insights from his research on fulfillment versus happiness and emphasizes the importance of providing resources that help employees thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Building Connections through Vulnerability and Holistic Leadership

Leaders can build deeper connections with their teams by openly sharing aspects of their own fulfillment journey. This vulnerability fosters authenticity and relatability, helping close the gap between leader and team. When leaders are bold enough to be human, it strengthens trust, loyalty, and overall team engagement. By focusing on the holistic view of their team members and fostering empathy, leaders can challenge conventional thinking and create an intentional culture that drives sustained engagement and innovation without alienating those who prefer the status quo.

    About Bernie Borges:

Bernie Borges is the host of the Midlife Fulfilled Podcast and the Fulfillment Architect at Thrive Media. Borges partners with leaders at organizations to design and implement tailored strategies that foster a more fulfilled and thriving multigenerational workforce. • Michelle Hawk from Oregon discusses her childhood connection to animism, the belief that all things are alive and interconnected. She shares her journey from feeling isolated with her unique perspective to finding belonging in shamanic practices. Combining spirituality with science, Michelle explores the transformative process of alchemy as a means of personal growth and self-actualization.

Michelle highlights the stages of transformation as a cyclical process of personal growth, explaining the essential phases:

Purging: Letting go of physical and emotional objects that no longer align with your identity.

Dissolution: Confronting feelings, beliefs, and subconscious patterns that hold you back.

Separation: Analyzing what you want to keep, what to discard, and what new things to embrace.

Conjunction: Bringing together initial ideas or actions (like a first draft), though it's a work in progress.

Michelle also discusses the natural tendency of humans to prefer familiarity over uncertainty due to deep-seated neurological wiring. She emphasizes the importance of trusting intuition while navigating transformation, using alchemy as a map for personal and leadership growth.

Leaders can embrace these cycles of change to guide teams through challenges and foster meaningful growth.

  • Shifting Leadership Mindsets for Lasting Impact

In this episode, Scott McCarthy from Ontario, Canada, shares how his military experience influences his leadership approach today. He discusses the unique leadership cycle in the military, where roles change every 2-3 years, and how this mindset applies to any leadership position. He emphasizes the importance of preparing for leadership transitions and establishing processes that outlast individual leaders. His leadership philosophy focuses on creating lasting change—not on a leader’s temporary presence, but on the continuity of the team’s success.

Delegation Done Right: Letting Go to Lead Better

Scott underscores that delegation is more than handing over large tasks; it's a continuous process we engage in daily, from asking someone to do dishes to using Zoom for this conversation. The essence of delegation is authorizing others to make decisions, which frees up leaders to focus on higher-level strategic thinking. He emphasizes the importance of shedding the ego, which often blocks delegation, by realizing that others may handle tasks better or differently. Scott also introduces his framework: starting with understanding intent—what needs to be achieved—and the desired end state—where we want to be. This approach enables teams to take ownership and act with greater autonomy.

Building Strong Leadership Habits for Success

Scott also shares practical habits for leaders to thrive, like integrating a daily morning routine. These habits help leaders maintain mental clarity, elevate productivity, and improve overall well-being, ultimately benefiting both themselves and their teams.

    About Scott McCarthy:

Scott McCarthy is the Chief Leadership Officer at Moving Forward Leadership. Scott’s leadership journey ignited early, as a young visionary eager to direct and strategize. His prowess led him to the Canadian Army, where he swiftly rose through the ranks, commanding an 80 soldier platoon at 24 and a 200-member Logistics Squadron at 33. A firm believer in the universality of leadership skills, Scott advocates for delegation as a key to organizational success and teamwork as the heart of high performance. His philosophy is clear: leaders must create a lasting legacy that endures beyond their tenure. Now, as a senior Canadian Army officer and Chief Leadership Officer at Moving Forward Leadership, Scott continues to inspire through his podcast, sharing wisdom from two decades of military experience. His message is a clarion call to all aspiring leaders to embrace their potential, lead with purpose, and craft a legacy that stands the test of time.

  • Find true freedom, peace, and power

In this episode, I’m joined by Brian Ridgway, the Spellbreaker from Hawaii, who shares his powerful journey from a self-help addict to living in what he calls "heaven on earth." Brian reflects on a turbulent upbringing, decades of searching for answers, and a near-death experience that transformed his perspective on life and self-responsibility. He experienced his awakening at 42, where he moved from understanding concepts like “everything is energy” and “all is one” to embodying them fully. He explains how embracing 100% responsibility unlocks true freedom and power.

    Why presence & breathing?

Brian shares his insights into presence and breathing. He explains that being present is the key to unlocking freedom and peace, and how not being present has people live in a state of suffering. He reveals the simple but powerful practice of a specific way of breathing to shift into the present moment. He also points out that until you are truly present, you will continue to live life by default, making presence the path to true empowerment.

The one question that makes all the difference

Brian emphasizes that everything happening is ultimately for your benefit; it’s happening “for you,” even if it may seem to be happening “to you.”  By asking “how is this for me?,” you shift from perceiving life as random to seeing it as an opportunity for transformation you created for yourself. This is how you become a true leader of yourself and your life, and how you can inspire others to do the same.

    About Brian D. Ridgway:

Beyond outdated self-help, endlessly rehashed, superficial "positive thinking" approaches, and incomplete airy-fairy spiritual approaches, liesthe next level: The Level 5 Paradigm and "Spellbreak" Technology, by Brian D. Ridgway. Among the ranks of great speakers delivering truly world-class content, Brian D. Ridgway brings something that is refreshingly original: His LIVE “Spellbreaks.”A "spell" is a mental, emotional and/or psychological state, often beyond our awareness or control. These unconscious spells are what underlies and creates a persons "triggers" - and their reactions to those triggers.

In interviews, and in his work, Brian invites members of the audience to experience the power of Spellbreaking by sharing one of their unresolved, long-standing life-issues. He then helps them to dissolve their perception of the problem and helps them to permanently transcend that issue LIVE, in a matter of minutes. Even more incredible, due to the powerful energetics of Brian's work, when the subject has their breakthrough, everyone in the audience experiences their OWN variation of the breakthrough.

Brian D. Ridgway helps people eliminate the illusion of problems and access their Infinite Intelligence ? ever-present guidance and limitless power - to create the body, health, business, wealth, relationships, life and WORLD of their dreams.

  • In this episode, we dive into aviation with Gina Longo from North Carolina, exploring her unique transition from an Airline Captain to Aviation Leadership Trainer. We discuss how her early passion for horses and practical advice from her father guided her into aviation, the challenges and insights she gained from her time training pilots in the UK, and her unconventional three-year adventure across the UK in a caravan with her German shepherds. Gina also shares how these experiences shaped her approach to leadership and her current work in the field.

Gina shares compelling stories illustrating the critical role of communication in aviation safety. She recounts a challenging night flight where poor communication led to a stressful and unstable approach to a landing, emphasizing the need for timely updates and assertiveness. In contrast, Gina also highlights a successful landing at another airport, where clear and effective communication prevented a potential disaster, showcasing how adhering to procedures and explaining decisions can enhance safety and build trust. These examples underline how good and bad communication can significantly impact safety and leadership in high-stakes environments.

    About Gina Longo:

Gina Longo Aviation Leadership Trainer at Trigpoint Systems, LLC, is a former airline captain and flight instructor who flew as pilot in command on some 2,500 flights and carried around 75,000 people (and many pets!) safely to their destinations.

Gina is committed to making aviation even safer, so if you were to ask her what she does, her answer would be, "What I do is what I believe."

And as the founder of a specialist boutique leadership training firm, what she believes is in helping aviation leaders communicate clearly and make common-sense decisions that put safety first, because poor communication and poor leadership should never again be the cause of an accident.

Her great love is German Shepherds, and as a proud U.S. Air Force brat, she tends to answer the question "Where are you from?" with an enigmatic "It depends."
