  • This week, Jake and Bob continue their conversation on redemptive suffering. They reflect on the Song of the Suffering Servant from Isaiah 53 and how Jesus redeems suffering itself. Jake and Bob also discuss how Jesus experienced all seven deadly wounds, challenged each identity lie, and how this in turn helps us challenge our own identity lies so that we too can love through sorrow.

    Key Points:

Communion with Jesus is healing Confronting our judgements about God leads towards healing Jesus experienced each of the seven deadly wounds yet because His identity was rooted in the Father, He did not accept any identity lies. Only when our identity is rooted in God, can we truly love while suffering

    Key Points:

Healing is often more than just physical restoration of our bodies Faith can provide a profound peace amidst chaos and suffering Offering one’s suffering for another brings meaning to the suffering God is already there with us in our darkest moments The physical and emotional wounds we experience in our lives are opportunities to see and experience God’s faithfulness and grace.

  • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Fr. Mark-Mary Ames, CFR to discuss the anatomy of freedom. Fr. Mark-Mary talks about the three pillars of freedom, the components of being loved, and how these concepts have helped bring about healing within his ministry work. They also discuss the importance of naming our needs, surrendering them to God, and why this act of surrender helps us love and be loved more authentically.

    Key Points:

The three pillars of authentic freedom are being seen and known, loved, and safe. The components of being loved include being heard, understood, chosen, and receiving personal treatment. Being loved authentically also involves being celebrated, sacrificially served, offered forgiveness, and pursued. Having clear rules, consistency, and sufficient resources contribute to our sense of safety. We should surrender our needs to the Father so that we can then be more open and able to receive healing from those around us.

  • This week, Jake and Bob go back to the basics of healing. They reflect on the idea that it is not what happens to us that harms our souls, but rather our response. Jake and Bob also discuss the problem of evil done to another, the challenges that come with accepting the reality of what happened, and the role of pain in the healing process.

    Key Points:

There is a difference between blame and responsibility. It is important to hold abusers accountable while also recognizing our personal role in the healing process Our souls are harmed in our response to a trauma but that does not mean we are responsible for the trauma itself Grace and divine assistance are necessary for acknowledging the reality of what happened and experiencing healing Healing is the process of being restored to our original God-given glory. It involves encountering God as the source of our healing and developing a right relationship with Him Healing is not just the removal of pain, but the freedom to will the good and the capacity to live in accordance with our true nature

  • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Fr. John Burns and Sr. Miriam James Heidland to talk about their ministry called Friends of the Bridegroom. Their ministry seeks to renew the Church through the healing, renewal, and expansion of women’s religious life in America. They also discuss the nuptial meaning of every vocation, the unique beauty women bring to the Church, and how in every state of life, we are all called to live for another.

    Key Points:

Priests and religious play a vital and unique role in the health and healing of the Church A Church without religious sisters is like a family without a mother No matter our state of life, we are not meant to be living for ourselves. Our hearts are made to be lived for another Friends of the Bridegroom seeks to bring God’s glory forth by awakening a movement in the Church for the restoration of the Bride. When the Bride radiates, everyone understands their place within it. Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are three ways we can offer a penitential sacrifice for the renewal of the Church.

  • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Lance and Nicole Rodriguez to discuss spiritual parenting and the profound impact it has had on their lives. Lance and Nichole share their story of loss and restoration from learning they could not have biological children, to experiencing spiritual parenting, and from there, recognizing how God created an opportunity within this sorrow to cultivate a spiritual family. They touch on the challenges that arise in spiritual parenting, the importance of receiving love before offering it to others, but most of all, the fruits that have grown out of this place of surrender.

    Key Points:

Receiving love and healing is essential before offering it to others as a spiritual parent. Loss and suffering can lead to unexpected blessings. Spiritual parenting can be messy and challenging, but is also transformational and fulfilling. Building a spiritual family requires openness, vulnerability, and a willingness to enter into the pain and joy of others. It also means creating a safe and loving space for young people to grow and discover their identity in Christ. Spiritual parenting is a ministry that evolves and requires ongoing prayer, discernment, and reliance on God's grace.

  • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Duane and Carrie Daunt to discuss what living out our identity of father or mother can look like as a biological parent. Duane and Carrie share the challenges and joys of parenting a large family and the role sacrifice plays in creating a strong and loving home. They also talk about how their own woundedness has impacted their parenting journey, the role of community, and what to do when spouses disagree.

    Key Points:

Duane’s sacrifice and willingness to put the needs of his family above his own is an essential aspect of creating a loving home. Community and mentorship play a crucial role in raising children and passing on the faith. Parenting a large family comes with unique challenges but also brings great joy and fulfillment. Our own woundedness and past experiences can impact our parenting journeys. It is important to seek healing and restoration in those areas. We are human and will make mistakes. Seeking to reconcile with your children afterwards is important for healing and repair.

The Pillars of Duane and Carrie’s Parenting Style:

Be conscious of the parenting you received growing up and how that has affected you The husband sacrificing creates the foundation of a loving home Both spouses should have vision and alignment Support from the community is necessary The Catholic faith is the centerpiece of life Do what it takes to be involved in your children’s lives You may never see the fruit of your parenting efforts, but that doesn’t matter Be open to feedback Be Holy Spirit led The messages your kids are hearing explicitly and implicitly matter and be attentive to them Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill your inadequacies as a parent Always attempt to repair Root your kids in the truth

  • This week, Jake and Bob are once again joined by Heather Khym to conclude their four part series on the four identities of a human. In this episode, they focus on the identity of father/mother, discuss maturation versus healing, and explore how unresolved wounds in the other three identities surface in the identity of mother/father. They also discuss the unique yet complementary qualities of a good mother or father and how they represent different traits of God’s character. Whether you have biological or spiritual children, remember the key to experiencing the fullness of our role as mother/father is becoming little and allowing God to love and heal us.

    Key Points:

Mothers and fathers have unique giftings that can bless their children in different ways. Mothers and fathers cannot be replaced by each other and represent different aspects of God's character. Corresponding words and deeds are important in embodying the roles of mother and father. Becoming little and allowing God to love and heal us is key to experiencing the fullness of our roles as mothers and fathers.

  • This week, Jake and Bob are once again joined by Heather Khym to continue with part three of their four part series on the four identities of a human. In this episode, they focus on the identity of bride/bridegroom and delve into the interconnectedness of each identity and why healing is essential to living them out fully. They discuss self-giving vs. self-seeking love, the role of bride/bridegroom in every vocation, and how learning to love others well is an important aspect of our healing journeys.

    Key Points:

The four identities of a person (son/daughter, brother/sister, bride/bridegroom, mother/father) are interconnected and require healing and integration to be lived out fully. The healing process involves both receiving love and learning to love well through practice and maturation. The sacraments play a crucial role in the restoration of relationships and offer a framework for understanding love and healing within various vocations and states of life. The bride/bridegroom identity points towards our universal call to love within different states of life (single, married, and religious life).

They also delve into the wounds a broken brother/sister relationship can cause, discuss the healing power of healthy affection, and how the saints can become our spiritual siblings.

    Key Points:

Healthy brother and/or sister relationships provide safety, camaraderie, and healing through healthy affection and mutual support. • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Heather Khym to begin a four part series on the four identities of a human: son/daughter, brother/sister, husband/wife, father/mother. In this episode, they focus on the identity of our sonship/daughtership, explore why this is the foundational identity, and unpack the core realities behind this identity from both a masculine and feminine perspective. They end the episode by sharing personal stories of healing and restoration within their identity as a beloved son/daughter.

    Key Points:

Identity is bestowed by God and is a gift to be received. A solid foundation in sonship and daughtership is essential for all other identities to flourish. Trust and receptivity are key elements of a secure identity. Wounds and brokenness can disrupt and distort our understanding of our identity. Healing and restoration are necessary to fully embrace our true identity as beloved children of God. Healing comes through receiving love and being rooted in God's love.

  • This week, Jake and Bob discuss the current state of therapy and its increasing popularity in society. They explore the factors contributing to the rise of interest in therapy, highlight the importance of philosophy and theology in therapy training, and reflect on the importance of objective truth in the healing process.

    Key Points:

Therapy has become increasingly popular in society, with more people seeking it out and discussing it openly. The breakdown of trust in various institutions, including the church, has contributed to the rise in therapy as a means of finding support and guidance. A solid foundation in philosophy, anthropology, and theology is essential in therapy training to provide a proper understanding of the human person and their needs. Subjective experiences without objective truth and care can be dangerous, and therapy should aim to integrate both subjective and objective realities. Resilience and the ability to repair are part of human nature and therefore are important aspects of therapy and personal growth. The sacraments provide structure and guidance in relationships and can contribute to healing and growth. Therapy should be situated within the context of faith and community, and not isolated from them. Discernment is crucial when considering a career in therapy, and motivations should be rooted in a genuine call rather than popularity or personal dysfunction. Healthy Christian communities have the potential to provide healing and support, and may reduce the need for therapy. Jesus should be the centerpiece of the healing journey.

  • This week, Jake and Bob discuss their journeys away from being therapists and the reasons behind their decisions. They reflect on their experiences, share how they outgrew their roles as therapists, and how they found other outlets to use their charisms and gifts. Jake and Bob also share the burdens they felt before and after making the change and how surrendering their work to the Holy Spirit has helped bear more fruit than ever before.

    Key Points:

Therapy can be a demanding profession that requires selflessness and a high level of holiness. Outgrowing the role of a therapist can be a natural part of personal growth and development. It could be a difficult but necessary step in answering God's call to a larger audience. Supernatural opposition can occur when bringing the Kingdom of God into the world. The Holy Spirit is the primary therapist and therapists should surrender to His guidance.

  • This week, Jake and Bob discuss their recent ministry experiences at Franciscan University, Assisi, and various JPII Healing Center events. They explore the transformative power of healing ministry, why they prefer ministering to groups instead of individuals, and the significance of holy sites. Jake and Bob also share insights into why we need so much healing in today’s culture.

    Key Points:

Team ministry is powerful and allows for mutual submission and a greater impact. Holy sites have an accumulation of grace and can facilitate powerful encounters with God. Blessing spaces is important to invoke God's presence and protect against spiritual contamination. Blessing places and spaces is critical for inviting the presence of God and experiencing His grace. The desecration of authority and the degradation of holy spaces contribute to the loss of worship, healing, and the culture's current state. Therapists and pastors have distinct roles, and it is important to recognize the limitations of therapy and the need for spiritual authority. Prayer has a powerful impact and can bring about healing and transformation in the lives of others.

  • This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Bishop Andrew Miller, the founder of HeartSync Ministries and a priest in the Orthodox Evangelical Episcopal Church to conclude their series on Parts Work. Bishop Andrew discusses the four core parts of HeartSync, the importance of placing God in the center of our hearts, and his process for helping others heal from brokenheartedness. He also discusses the ultimate goal of healing as bringing the whole heart into a loving relationship with God and how giving thanks to God can help bring us into deeper relationship and healing. For more information about HeartSync or Bishop Andrew, visit his website here.

    Key Points:

Heart Sync is a therapeutic approach that focuses on healing brokenheartedness and integrating the core components of the heart. The four core components of the heart are function, guardian, emotion, and true self. Many people have parts of their heart that are not in relationship with God, and healing involves bringing these parts into communion with Him. Healing also involves making relational connections with God through memories and experiences as well as expressing thanksgiving to deepen the bond with God. It is important to recognize union with God as the ultimate goal of inner healing and deliverance.
