  • Today we chat with the wonderful Owner of OMM LABEL Ophelie Mouton. OMM stands for Oh My Mama or Oh, my mama or Oh my…mama! You can read it many ways, but at its core, 'Omm' means “Mother” in Arabic. OMM Label is not your average breastfeeding brand and is like nothing else on the market. This is quality ethical clothing for damn cool mums. We love that their messaging is relatable, and that their mothers are empowered!

Motherhood is bloody hard enough, so OMM makes getting dressed the easy part. It's all about feeling comfortable to breastfeed wherever, whenever you need and to feel amazing within yourself. OMM’s modern basics are made by mothers for mothers, and designed to be your sidekicks through your breastfeeding journey – and beyond! OMM donates $1 of every purchase to amazing charities that you get to choose from like The National Breast Cancer Foundation/Women's Community Shelters and more!

We asked Ophi the following questions:

Can you kick us off with a funny Motherhood story for us?So, how was your own 4th trimester with two kids correct? For example, did you pump/What was your feeding journey all about? What propelled you to create OMM The Label- we have mentioned a bit in our intro but we would love to delve deeper with you on this?Your waffle lounge set in green is seriously lush and if I had breastfed for longer than I did due to unforeseen circumstances, I would have lived in that- do you have a fav product that you are most proud of out of everything you have ever created? What does the idea of ‘success’ mean to you and a mum and business ownerWe love your quote- "I believe that motherhood and the achievement of breastfeeding is something to celebrate and be proud of - I hate the idea of mums feeling ashamed or uncomfortable about breastfeeding - but unfortunately it’s a reality for some of us and that NEEDS TO CHANGE!" - can you talk about this? What have been the biggest challenges in the juggle that is Motherhood and running your business? Then, on the flip side, what have been the most beautiful aspects? What do you do for you in all of the chaos? What was the last book you read or podcast that you listened to? What would the you before Motherhood say to the you, in all that you are, now?Three words that sum up where you are at in your Motherhood journey now?

  • When Amy Clarke had her second baby 5 years ago, she felt so lost. She couldn't go back to her full time office job and after coming out of a Post Natal Depression Fog. She really wanted to create a brand that resonated with her and my fellow female community. This drove her to create Confetti Rebels. It soon became her third baby. Amy wanted to create apparel that made people feel happy, confident and speak their mind (without speaking their mind verbally). She wanted to create apparel that MEANT something to the person wearing it. Amy makes such an impact to her community supporting dozens of charities as well as making sure her products are ethically made and of the highest standard possible. Amy is such a delight and wonderful person, we are so stoked to be chatting with her today. We talk about:

Mums having a cheeky vino in Mothers Group in the park How Confetti Rebels came to beThe 4th Trimester and Postnatal DepressionAmy's fav slogan on her tee's. And the idea of "Life/Child Balance"The most rewarding part of the businessSuccess and what it means as a business owner and MotherIntroverts and extrovertsThe most rewarding parts of Amy's businessThe biggest challenges of Motherhood and the most beautiful aspects and SO much moreThe idea of "going deep or going home" and its not what you think. Get your mind out of the gutter!

This episode is brought to you by the incredible Rachael Rose who was a guest on Episode 10. Rach spoke about how lonely she was during her early Motherhood - and this was a catalyst to start running pregnancy and mothers circles, where she basically forces attendees to exchange numbers and start mum-dating.

Rachael has released an online women's circle facilitator training called Together, where you can learn all about starting up a mothers circle, creating places where mums can connect, talk honestly and feel less alone.

Visit rachaelrose.com.au/together and join the self paced training for $50 off, by entering PUMPED at checkout.

  • Today we welcome our incredible Sponsor and one of the co-founders of Active Truth. We are such HUGE fans of this company and have both lived in the maternity tights before and after birth. So, we are humbled to chat to Nadia Tucker, who moved to Brisbane on the same day in 2011 and as new her neighbor Stevie (sounds like destiny) and they quickly became friends over baby playdates and long pram walks in search of coffee. Together, they navigated returning to exercise after having their babies and the many changes that their bodies experienced over this time. They were frustrated with buying activewear online and receiving products that looked beautiful on models but didn’t perform in real-life on bodies without model proportions, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. This was a common theme when talking with friends and family. So, they set out to create a brand that not only serviced the activewear needs of women, but celebrated them too!

Active Truth is committed to showing a diverse range of women wearing their activewear. They want women to look at Active Truth and see someone like themselves – happy, active, looking and feeling amazing in their activewear. They refuse to photoshop their models and continue to challenge stereotypes and bias around body image which we love. Active Truth are proud to work with organisations that support women through their partnerships with Share the Dignity, Body Image Movement, and a number of smaller female-led, or female-focused, charities. We talk about:

Pumping and BIG boobiesStarting the business in the living room and sleeping in swags etc.How the 4th Trimester was for Nadia and the challenges that she overcameHow far the business has come and her fave pair of tightsWhat the idea of 'success' means to Nadia and a Businesswoman and MotherThe power of word of mouth and reviews and Mothers sharing the loveThe Most beautiful and Challenging aspects of MotherhoodAdvice to any parent starting a businessMotherhood in 3 words and MORE!

  • Trigger warning for this episode- we discuss Birth Trauma on a deep level. If you require support after listening to this episode please visit Birthtrauma.org.au (ABTA) and you can also follow them on Instagram @birthtrauma.org.au

There are additional support resources here. Now given that Birth Trauma Awareness Week has recently passed. We thought it would be fitting to share with you all Jodie's incredible story. Imagine waking up in your fourth trimester in the hospital, being told that your uterus has been removed and after being in an induced coma for weeks after a Uterine Atony and almost dying?

    We unpack:

What happened during Jodie's birth birth and more specifically in the 4th trimester of Motherhood . For example a uterine atony- postpartum haemorrhage- laparotomy and kidney failure and a hysterectomy.

How she recovered mentally and physically given the significant trauma that her and her family endured.

Disassociation with the birth and connection to bub and odd feelings associated with this.

Missing out on all of the firsts in Motherhood.

Who was in her village and unsolicited advice from outsiders.

The idea of being 'brave' and how that isn't necessarily helpful language for someone recovering from Birth Trauma.

Mothers being enough, the vicious cycle of mum guilt and learning to sit in her grief instead of forcing herself to feel grateful.

Advice to any parent who has endured birth related trauma in terms of seeking the right type of professional help.

Finding her passion again through work and celebrating being alive.

The most beautiful aspects in Jodie's current phase of Motherhood. The simple things like being a part of her sons life- not just a mother but a friend- new phases of relationships.

The joy of cooking as family and coming together- '"Food brings everyone together with the people you love".

  • Today you are in for a treat as we talk to the passionate Elise Clement -A life coach dedicated to women’s wellbeing and personal evolution through Motherhood and Matrescence. We talk about returning to work and if its right, changing mindsets around mothers and work and the 1950's concept of "The Good Mother"- So of the questions we cover are below...

-Talk us through your experience with the fourth trimester and secondly what advice you would give to any mothers who are in the thick of it?

-Your website quotes the below from one of your mentors and we loved it as well, it reads “A birth creates a revolution inside of us” . Can you share with us how you feel about this quote and how you came out the other side of your revolution?

-Can you talk us through the notion of Matrescence?

-In your Mamamia article, you talk about your experience feeling like you were navigating uncharted territories as a new mother, even though many women have been through their own baptism of fire. You wished that there was an initiation of sorts. But in all honesty is this something that we can really prepare for until we experience it for ourselves?

-Culturally there seems to be a change, in how we talk about the fourth trimester, there are more podcasts, more conversations between friends that don't gloss over the reality of what one can experience but how do you see as a society we are tackling how women transition into motherhood in the work you do with your clients?

    - We are in the midst of transitioning back to work. It's been a ride! Between daycare germs, the mental shift and a balancing act of being a mum and having a job. Can you recommend any strategies to make this second transition we go through less stressful?

    - What do you do for you? How do you switch off, replenish and recharge?

    - Can you sum up Motherhood in 3 words for us?

So, any parent that's overwhelmed by the sheer amount of competing demands you have to manage, Elise can support you in regaining clarity, confidence and the energy you need to make decisions based on what you want, not what you fear. She also regularly hosts Mother's Circles in Clovelly called the Mama Rising Circles - you can find out more here. In these groups she shares lots of nourishing practices and ways to create more space for ourselves as mothers and as women and reconnect to what matters most.

She also wrote an article here about returning to work, which talks about how to make the transition smoother, you may enjoy reading it if you are in this boat like Sophie and Hayley.

Elise has a super helpful reading list is here. And the other books we spoke about are here:
    Fair Play by Eve Rodsky
The 80/80 Marriage by Nate Klemp and Kaley Klemp

What a lot of people don’t know about my mum who don’t know her closely is that she was in an abusive relationship for over 13 years as she raised my sister and I. She survived being married to my dad, who at several times has told me that if mum didn’t leave, he would have killed her. Mum, Emily and I lived in hiding multiple times and like many women/mothers dealing with DV, it took her several times to leave dad. But, ultimately, she raised Emily and I with passion, love, adventure and tried her best in her given circumstances- I am SO PUMPED to have mum on the Podcast. She talks us through:

    * Navigating Motherhood and Pumping whilst living in a DV situation

    * What were the warning signs for DV?

    * Who was her support and did that dwindle as dads behavior became more dangerous?

  • Today we welcome the ever so lovely Anna Robards and Christie Whitehill founders of INTU WELLNESS. Anna stepped into the media spotlight in 2013 when she met her bachelor and now husband Tim Robards. Since then, Anna has worked with some of Australia’s biggest beauty and fashion brands and appeared on several TV shows. Anna’s journey into wellness began after experiencing a lack of sleep during her first pregnancy.

Christie made a name for herself in the technology industry after founding an award-winning education company, Tech Ready Women. Christie’s journey into wellness began after experiencing major stress and burnout from having a “busy” and “always on” life before she fell pregnant with her second child. So after the birth of their children and many restless nights, also while building a career, both resented the lack of sleep and their dull-looking skin. The problem was they could not find a trusted supplement that would conveniently target both issues. So, they decided to create their own brand - INTU WELLNESS. Their supplements are formulated by award-winning naturopaths, chemists, and scientists who specialise in creating complementary medicines that are backed by traditional and scientific research. Bonus that all products are Aust made! We are so excited to chat to them about all things Motherhood, wellness and work life balance. We chat:

    * Motherhood and poo and forgetting to pick up your kids

    * Pumping and formula

    * 4th Trimester Advice

    * INTU WELLNESS and the supplements that change your skin and sleep

    * Running a business together, friendship and work life balance

    * The importance of being present with your kids and putting down the phone

    * Postnatal Depression and burn out as a new mum

    * The Challenges and the beautiful aspects of Motherhood and SO much more

  • Today we are so excited to have chatted with Nikki Jurcutz - CEO of ‘Tiny Hearts Education’ which we all know that our listeners avidly follow. As a paramedic, when Nikki would often be called to jobs where, had parents been confident with simple first aid, the outcome could have been very different. So, Rach and Nikki created their baby first aid course to help parents and caregivers, just like you, feel confident, educated and empowered to act in a first-aid emergency with their little one.

Eight years later, their dream has grown beyond comprehension. They have developed more courses and products with one vital mission in mind: help parents and caregivers navigate their journey with confidence. Nikki is also a mumma to her girl Nahla and boy Wolf– she has had wild birth stories of both babies but we want to look at her 4th trimester/ her Motherhood experiences and unpack all of the burning questions that you have for her as parents.

We talk Motherhood, birthing Tiny Hearts Education, the danger of forums, sleeping rollercoasters, constant feedback from others & having strong boundaries in the fourth trimester, the cold sore virus and SO much more!
