Bart Brouwers not only was journalist, he became an Editor in Chief of the news paper De Limburger, now he is professor of journalism in Groningen and is on the supervisor board of the Dutch public broadcaster NOS. We expected Bart to have a very skeptical attitude towards AI and to be a strong promotor of an all human process for creating news. But he also is an innovator, not afraid to explore himself how AI can make the process of gathering news faster, better and more efficient. So the created and launched a tool kit to support editorial teams. What makes a good journalist? Can AI compete or should AI complement? Can AI identify news worthy topics? Is AI a kind of reviewer, just like we know review processes in scientific publications. Can AI distinguish between trustworthy and fake news, among all the (mis) information in the reverberation hall called the internet, whether fake news is echoed all over by algorithms and exaggerated people making a living from influencing. And what does he think of the Dutch media landscape? should we have silos, columns, each with its own political, ethnic or religious flavor. We asked it to a member of the supervisory board of the NOS.
