Worried about getting weak bones and more fractures if you eat plant-based? After all, dairy products have long been promoted to be a good source of calcium. So, if you remove animal-based foods from your diet, that would mean taking away dairy products like cow’s milk, cheeses, and yogurts too. Where will you then get calcium on a plant-based diet, or would you need to rely on supplements?
If you want to find out, tune in. In this ‘Ask the Dietitian’ episode, we’ll look at the risks associated with taking calcium supplements, and whether calcium supplements are really needed if you eat plant-based for the long-term. Ready to dive into this topic with me? Let’s go!

Let’s find out. In this episode, learn whether a plant-based diet would really be too high in carbohydrates for those with diabetes, or whether this way of eating can actually help improve and possibly even reverse this condition. I hope this episode truly helps you in your health journey!

Plant-based eating can feel like such a LONELY thing, especially if no one else in your family or social circle is making a similar change. In fact, this may be what’s stopping you from even wanting to start this new lifestyle– because of peer pressure or of having no one else doing the same thing in moving to a plant-based diet.
A lack of support is one of the key challenges I see many face in their plant-based diet transition. So where can you get more support as you start or continue your plant-based journey? In Part 2 of this topic focus, let’s talk about 3 MORE kinds of support you can get to help make your diet transition easier, smoother AND more enjoyable. Let’s jump in!

But she wanted to heal her body a different way, and so embarked on her journey into plant-based eating, while her family remained on a regular diet. In this interview part 2, hear and be inspired by the myriad of health benefits Chrystal experienced within just 5 weeks of making the switch to a whole food plant-based diet, beyond just her blood sugars becoming normal. Do you struggle with diabetes or currently have pre-diabetes? For Chrystal, getting the dreaded ‘D’ diagnosis was the last thing she wanted, especially in light of her other existing health issues - hypothyroidism, lymphedema and high blood pressure. Over the years, she has also seen multiple family members suffer the effects of poorly controlled diabetes, such as impaired vison, amputations, and kidney disease. But Chrystal had also been used to a Standard American Diet (or SAD) with a meat-heavy diet rich in junk foods, restaurant meals and lots of fried dishes. So why and how did Chrystal change her diet and lifestyle and what was the result? Listen in to this first part of my interview with Chrystal and be prepared to walk away inspired and encouraged in your own health journey. You’ll also enjoy a peek into a what a typical day now is like for Chrystal in terms of her meals and drinks!
