Motorcycling offers more than escape—it provides a path to mindfulness and purpose through our interactions with others on the road. George Bernard Shaw's century-old wisdom about living for something greater than ourselves perfectly captures the spirit of what it means to ride with intention and community consciousness.
A simple wave or nod to a driver who makes a mistake can transform how all motorcyclists are perceived. Kind interactions with drivers may make them more likely to watch for and respect motorcyclists in the future. The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride exemplifies how our passion for motorcycling can support important causes. Shaw's quote reminds us not to be "a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances" but to live with purpose. Motorcycling forces us to be present, letting everyday grievances fade away. The community of motorcycling creates a brotherhood/sisterhood united by our love of riding. Like the song "This Little Light of Mine," we're called to shine brightly and make a difference through our riding -
Saddle up for the ultimate motorcyclist's guide to Rocky Mountain National Park from a true local expert with nearly three decades of riding experience in northern Colorado. As both an avid rider and part-time tour guide in Rocky Mountain National Park, I'm pulling back the curtain on the region's most spectacular routes, hidden gems, and insider strategies for avoiding the tourist crowds that can turn dream rides into traffic nightmares.
Did you know that over 4.3 million visitors flood Rocky Mountain National Park annually, with most arriving between June and September? I'll share why Monday through Thursday rides offer dramatically better experiences and why you should absolutely avoid the July 4th week at all costs. You'll learn the critical differences between Estes Park (the gateway town) and the national park itself, plus where to find the best coffee, burgers, and cherry pies when you need a break from the saddle.
Trail Ridge Road stands as the crown jewel – the highest continuous paved road in America topping 12,000 feet in elevation – but I'll also guide you through less-traveled alternatives that showcase stunning mountain landscapes without the traffic. From the twisting canyon roads of the Narrows along Highway 34 to the steep switchbacks of County Road 43 that reveal breathtaking views of Longs Peak, this episode maps out perfect day rides and multi-day adventures through some of America's most magnificent landscapes.
Weather at these elevations can be unpredictable – I've encountered fresh July snowfall at the highest elevations – so I'll equip you with practical knowledge about seasonal timing, gas station locations, accommodation recommendations, and alternative return routes that can transform your journey into an unforgettable loop ride. Whether you're planning your first Rocky Mountain adventure or looking to discover new paths through familiar territory, this comprehensive guide will elevate your riding experience with authentic local insights that no travel website can provide. -

The powerful connection motorcyclists share with Mother Nature defines our riding experience in profound ways most travelers never understand. When we throw a leg over our bikes, we enter into a relationship with forces larger than ourselves—sometimes gentle, sometimes fierce, but always present.
Unlike our caged counterparts, motorcyclists directly feel every temperature shift, weather change, and atmospheric mood. This heightened awareness creates a unique mindset where we simultaneously prepare for nature's challenges while surrendering to her ultimate control. There's something strangely liberating in acknowledging we cannot tame the crosswind or halt the approaching storm—we can only adapt, adjust, and continue forward.
The contrast between urban riding environments and those lonely country roads reveals where Mother Nature speaks most clearly. While city streets offer danger and discomfort, those routes alongside lakes, through forests, or near mountains become spaces for genuine connection. Remember that crisp morning air as the sun rises? Perhaps that's her way of saying good morning. The cooling breeze on your skin during a summer ride? Maybe she's wishing you a pleasant journey.
Even in challenging moments—like my ride through Monument Valley's sudden hailstorm—Mother Nature often has something beautiful to show us if we maintain the right perspective. Emerging from that storm to discover a double rainbow in my rearview mirror became a powerful metaphor for perseverance. Like riders such as "Itchy Boots" who maintain positivity through difficult worldwide journeys, we can choose to embrace weather challenges as essential parts of the motorcycling experience rather than inconveniences.
Next time you ride, take a moment to acknowledge Mother Nature's presence. Appreciate her gentle days, respect her power, and most importantly, embrace the incredible freedom we enjoy experiencing the world on two wheels. What a gift indeed! Have you had a memorable encounter with Mother Nature during a ride? I'd love to hear your story. -

Sometimes it feels like contrasting realities. For some, their world view is driven by negative social media, but we can find hope in our positive motorcycling community. Want to know how? Just look around.
Have you ever found yourself in a moment so heartwarming and uplifting, only to be jolted back by an encounter with negativity? Picture a radiant summer day in Loveland, Colorado, where my wife and I offered free coffee at a local 10K run, all while sparking connections over our shared love for motorcycling. The open road and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts have always been my sanctuary, a theme that resonated deeply as I handed out my "Peace, Love, Moto" cards. Conversations flowed easily with folks clad in Klim and Harley Davidson gear, reminding me how our shared passions can unite us. Yet, amidst this joy, an encounter with a man wearing a vile, hate-filled shirt was a stark reminder of the harsh realities that linger in our world, even amidst positivity.
Reflecting on this experience, the episode takes a deeper look at the dual nature of our society—where words of hate can be as pervasive as they are damaging, from t-shirts to tweets. Despite this, I am inspired by the warmth and kindness of the global motorcycling community, which rallies for meaningful causes like the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Our community’s dedication to promoting men's health is a testament to the power of our collective spirit. Join me as I celebrate the transformative nature of shared passions and mutual respect, which shine brightly on the open road and beyond, even in the face of negativity. -

Have you ever felt the need to just turn off the world for a while, get out of the house, get out on your motorcycle, to find yourself out on a lonely road and just ride? I believe that sometimes a ride like that can transform itself into a chance encounter. Like the stars were aligned for something special, something meaningful to happen. It happened to me. I’d like to tell you about it.
-
Have you ever found yourself in a Flow State? Ah… nice. It’s good to find yourself riding in the Zone. Maybe that’s a glimpse of Heaven. So how do we find it on our next ride?
-
I can’t always find the words to express how meaningful riding is to me and for so many of us around the world. But others have very effectively found those words. One such person is Melissa Holbrook Pierson from her 1997 book, The Perfect Vehicle. So today, we will hear from the most eloquent Forward that I’ve ever heard. I’ll have a link in the show notes for how you can get your own copy of this book. So for now, I ask you to relax, pour yourself a favorite coffee or tea, take a couple of deep slow breaths, and listen to these poetic words that describe our beautiful world of motorcycling.

Sometimes our motorcycle rides are fast paced. Yes, that’s fun, but a fast paced life? That’s not so fun. It can be high-risk and destructive. There are ways of building some cushion of safety, both in motorcycling and in life. Creating some “ Margin" as they call it. We need to know when to adjust the load, when to slow down, when to make a change, when to rest, before something happens that could impact our ability to ride. This is important stuff.
-
My hope for you and for myself is that we will be just like George Bailey at the end of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. By having a motorcycle, the ability to ride to ride it and the many friends and family who love us, we will recognize how very blessed you are right now. We’ll be reminded that yeah, we are having a Wonderful Life.
