  • Well hello there. We're just popping in to tell you about another podcast you might want to check out if you're a fan of Woodbine or Parkdale Haunt.
How i Died is an award winning fiction podcast that follows a coroner with a secret ability to speak to the dead. The story is set in a strange and shadowy remote town called Springfield that boasts an unusually high mortality rate. As bodies start piling up in the morgue, coroner and forensic pathologist Jon Spacer uses his ability to talk to the dead to help local police solve the case-of-the-week, while also tracking down clues about a mysterious serial killer who turns their victims purple. You're about to hear the very first episode from their first season. If you want to hear more, you can listen to How i Died here: https://pod.link/1450764373

  • You can only run for so long. At some point, you have to face your problems head on. Usually, you'd do this in therapy, but Grace is tired of platitudes and obfuscations and questions. She wants answers and there's only one person who can give them to her. But that means no more running, no more avoiding, no more looking away. You have to face your problems head on, no matter what happens, no matter what they bring.
You have to stop running at some point. No matter what, the past will find you and it is not kind.
This is the season finale of Woodbine (Season One). We'll see you soon.

  • Sometimes you have to turn to an old friend for some help. The life experience that comes with age can give a lot of insight into all kinds of situations. And when that person is ageless? Well, then you can expect some truly sage advice. For Grace and Bea, Lennox's shadow grows ever longer, Hollis continues to insert themselves wherever they want, and the night stretches out beyond them endlessly. Meanwhile, Rhys is somewhere nearby, looking at Hawaiian shirts on his phone.

  • The past will always find its way back to you, whether it is the distant or the recent. It comes back with claws, ready to pull you into its embrace. You can't escape the violence that made you. It will always find a way to hook itself into your skin, burrow under, and then wait until you think you're safe.
The past Grace has been running from is catching up. The past Bea is searching for is coming for her. And Rhys continues to just have a good time, everyone else be damned.

  • Oh boy, it's time for a super fun bar crawl with the team! Obviously this is some sort of delightful work outing, right? In any other capacity, it probably would be. But for Grace, Bea, and Rhys, the party is overshadowed by the case at hand. Hard to get too enthused when you've got a malicious being on your tail, really puts a damper on the evening. Don't stop, don't lose your nerve, and don't ever look back...

Anyway, something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and the team has to figure it out. And something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and the team has to figure it out. But something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and the team has to figure it out. Hang on. Ok, I'm good, I know what we're talking about. Something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and the team has to figure it out. And... something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and the team has to figure it out. Didn't I say that already? I'm not sure what's happening. Something is weird in the episode description and I don't know what to do. I don't know how to escape. Something is weird in a hotel in Toronto and... I can't escape. And I don't know what to do.

  • There's getting under someone's skin and then there's taking it. Grace and Bea are tasked with finding the missing skin of a client who just wants to be whole again... in more ways than one. Turns out the issues run a lot deeper than a simple lost layer and are complicated in ways neither of them expected. Hope you came prepared to yearn, because everyone else here is. Minus Rhys, I guess. He's just vibing.

  • The worst kind of joke is not one where no one laughs, but one where the joke-teller takes a violent, unyielding umbrage with your lack of mirth. The joke is on Grace when a not-so-funny artefact goes missing and someone from her past makes a sudden return. It's really no laughing matter though when Lennox reappears, leaving her with more questions than answers. There's no clowning around when he's involved. Alright, I've run out of puns, I think that's enough for this episode description.

  • Grace takes Bea straight into the deep end with her first case: A boogeyman is missing a very key part of something important to him. It plays the music of the night, giving him a sense of peace, covering up the sounds of the world... He just wants his groove back, is all. Plus, it's time to hire a new assistant, and there's a single standout in a world of duds.

  • Beatrice Ashe is having an incredibly average day, up until the part where she is brutally stabbed to death. Well, near death. Some people have bosses who meddle in their work, some have bosses who are little too quick to act, and some have bosses who will bring you back from the precipice of annihilation by turning you into a vampire. Now, Bea has some new problems, only one of which is the mystery around who did this to her and why.

Things change for her very quickly though when she is brutally attacked and left near death. Now, her boss Grace Hawthorne has a choice to make: Let Bea die or... give her a second chance. A second chance that comes with a whole new world that has always been there, lurking in the shadows of the city...

  • Well hello again.
It's been one year since the end of the show, so Alex, Emily, and Ian decided to sit down one more time to answer some outstanding listener questions, reflect on the series, and give a little insight into what's coming next...
This is not a spoiler-free zone, so if you're new here, this might not be the best place to start. Also, we also talked for way longer than we originally expected, so this is Part 1 of 2. Surprise!

  • It's the holiday season, and the light of the street lamps are dim in the thick snow that blankets the city. Toronto can be cold in the winter, but sometimes you come across a case that makes your blood turn to ice. Everything changed the night she walked into my office, and there's no going back now. The nights just keep getting longer and, sometimes, it feels like they're only getting darker...

  • AMARANTHINE: undying.
Trust. Simple in theory — do you have faith in someone, someone you love, someone you know, someone you care about? It can be difficult in practice, and there comes that moment where you ask yourself... how do you find faith in the darkness? Who do you place your confidence in? Who can you rely on? To the people we love, we say: “Take this, please. It’s my heart, it’s my faith. Don’t break it. Don’t lose it. Don’t hurt it. Don’t hurt me.” Trust is the ability to lie in bed beside someone and, even in the most anxious of sleepless nights, know that you are safe. Trust is the knowledge that you will always find shelter from the worst of the world. Trust is the warmth of intertwined fingers. The steadying pressure of an embrace. Trust is a gift. Don’t break it. Don’t lose it. Don’t hurt it. Don’t hurt me. In the stygian darkness, who will stand beside you? Who will walk with you into hell? Who will walk out?
    Do you trust your friends?

  • QUIETUS: final settlement (as of a debt).
"Glacial Lake Iroquois was a prehistoric proglacial lake that existed at the end of the last ice age approximately 13,000 years ago. The lake was essentially an enlargement of the present Lake Ontario that formed because the St. Lawrence River downstream from the lake was blocked by the ice sheet near the present Thousand Islands. The level of the lake was approximately 30 m (~100 ft) above the present level of Lake Ontario. The subsequent melting of the ice dam resulted in a sudden lowering of the lake to its present level [...]. Two ancient shorelines in the Toronto area mark the existence of former glacial lakes. About 2 km inland from the shore, a ridge known as the Iroquois Shoreline can be discerned. The old shoreline runs west-east, running roughly parallel to Davenport Road just south of St. Clair Avenue West. Further east, the Scarborough Bluffs also formed part of the shoreline of the ancient lake." (Wikipedia)
Remember your past. Walk until your legs give out, head out to where the shore used to be and wait by the edge. Watch the city lights under darkness. Think about what is to come. Remember where the water once was.
How do you prepare for the end?
