# 2 Me, myself and Varg Part 1. An attempt at a review of "To Hell and back again: The complete Autobiography of Varg Vikernes". Previously published as episode 42 of one of my other podcasts, Fritenkernes Frikvarter.
I had the ambition of reviewing the complete autobiography of Varg Vikernes in this episode, but instead I "walked around the porridge" in my own idiosyncratic way. Apparently the complete review of this autobiography is a new hobby of mine. Maybe the complete review of this autobiography will be a five-parter, like the autobiography itself. Or a seven-parter, complete with intro and outro, in true extreme metal style. Only time will tell. Look to your orb for the warning.
My podcast method is improv and sloppy research. If there are any factual errors in this episode, let me know, and I'll include them in the show notes and credit you there if you want. Caveat: Only if the corrections are written in a contructive and non-douchy way. Comments and feedback via Messenger to Once upon a time in Norway podcast or [email protected]

Håvard Bråthen & Thomas Alkärr, the directors of the NRK documentary series Helvete - The history of Norwegian Black Metal (Helvete - Historien om norsk Black Metal)
Previously published in the podcast Best med gjest (Now called Tanketokt) as episode #43 on February 15th 2026.
The documentary series Helvete - Historien om norsk Black Metal is available here for Norwegians only, in Norwegian, without English subtitles: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/helvete

Intro: Cuntjunkies, "Bubblegum Satan" fra EPen Snuff.
Outro: Cuntjunkies: "Mankind no more" fra EPen Snuff.
To shamelessly toot my own horn, I use Cuntjunkies, the band I used to be the vocalist in, as intro/outro musick for this podcast series. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4jc79RRJKNQofheuD8kXGj?si=Mc3zTMeDQByQLZfFS1VD6A

The long and winding mission statement of the podcast Once upon a time in Norway. A little about the concept about the podcast. A lot about the documentary Once upon a time in Norway: https://youtu.be/jzjkKZD67nE?is=uuAzU8ZQH5Klkfq8
Long story short: The podcast will be transmissions related to the Black Metal scene in Norway in the early 90s. And by early 90s I mean early 90s as in: Don’t hold your breath for episodes about albums recorded after 1994. Featuring albums recorded after 1994 is about as likely as featuring bands like Korn or Limp Bizqit.
The format will vary from episode to episode. Some episodes will be interviews. And some will have been previously published in the podcasts Tanketokt (previously Best med gjest) and Fritenkernes Frikvarter. And some episodes will be monologues. In my monologues I go off on tangents all the fucking time. But I always get back on track. So just deal with it.
Some episodes will focus on non-Norwegian Black Metal before the rise of Norwegian Black Metal. Or the roots of Black Metal going back to Black Sabbath and even further back. Hell, some episodes might even focus on Norwegian DEATH METAL from the 80s and early 90s.
