This podcast is one that I personally was really hoping for. I was lucky enough to get Joel Maxfield on for his first podcast. Full disclosure, Joel is one of my personal mentors in bowhunting. He began working for MATT McPherson as a youngster with McPherson archery and then became the first employee of Mathew’s and ultimately my boss there during my time. Much of my base in archery came from watching Joel and Matt in the bow labs and experimenting with the founding teams there. Joel has a hunting resume that is far to long to write. I’ve never met someone more serious and dedicated to bowhunting and archery than Joel. He loves the industry, loves the dealers and loves professional archery. He has a Grand Slam in archery and the Super Slam in archery. He shoots a compound and traditional gear. His wife Janice is an extremely successful short draw low poundage archer also having success on most species around the globe. His experience and curiosity goes deeper than anyone I know of when it comes to real life application of arrows and animals. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This podcast is with Troy Fowler who many people claim is behind the charge in heavy arrow/FOC & penetration debates. After my recent arrow series “truth about arrows” Troy reached out to discuss some of these topics with me. Although many in the industry have found certain subjects or comments from Troy to be abrasive, I told him I would certainly like to talk more on the topics. I also wanted to understand his background because in the end, all I want is for archers to maximize their abilities and some of the “extremes” just don’t translate to accuracy and tuning. Going into this podcast I didn’t know much about Troy’s background and wanted first hand information from him about some of the arrow opinions he has. We navigated our first long conversation together while he told me his side of curiosity and I explained my theories based on my experiences on the range and in the field. Although some of Troy’s post and comments within the archery community isn’t from the high ground I think he could choose to take, it becomes clear it’s part of what makes him who he is. Troy has made a few comments to me about the appreciation he has for some of the information I have shared and will lead him down some new paths. I like where we left off and hope I can be of help more if asked but also want to do what’s is possible to make sure the industry moves forward, TOGETHER for the betterment of all those who choose life with a bow.

This podcast is with Bill from Ironwill Outfitters. We dove deeper into the arrow topics and where his latest testing has led. I enjoyed an open minded talk about the fixed blade/mechanical broadhead debate. I also questioned the depth of the testing he has done so far and give a little insight on the topic too playing the devils advocate. We also question some important topics the archery needs to know. This is such a great talk regardless of whether you are a mechanical or fixed blade broadhead supporter OR if you want o hear more on the debate of FOC focus vs Accuracy Focus.

Dr. James Park is one of the Worlds leading sources of scientific research on arrow flight. Dr. Park has been awarded a PhD in Mechanical Engineering by Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and has 31 published research papers to prove it. His PhD work was dedicated to arrow dynamics and a lifelong study that covered the behavior of arrows during the bow’s power stroke and in free flight. He placed particular emphasis on compound bows, but much of the work is also directly applicable to recurve bows. James Park was a mentor of mine since i was first shooting for the U.S. Team. I stayed with James, studied with him and he was able to collect data from my shooting methods that actually predated where we were at in understanding it. James witnessed me break multiple records and win multiple gold medals internationally. He used some of the collected data and information with robotics and wind tunnels to make him an impressive coach for the Australian National Team. He is one of the few sources that I would report my personal most trusted data to. He is a real life projectile wizard and has done more arrow study with a shooting machine that anyone you can find on the internet, i guarantee it. I hope you enjoy this podcast and understand that through our trusted information you will improve in archery. Don’t get trapped in the arrow wormhole. This podcast can give you more than a lifetime of understanding in a few hours.

In this “Swap Cast” episode, I sit down with Wade Grinager, the host the Archery Podcast, to discuss some in-depth history with different bow brands, set up, tuning, and what he learned through an experience here at Nock ON HQ. We touch on how archery shops play a key roll in making the archery experience easier and better for people when a shop has a wide selection of equipment and staff that are truly passionate about archery. Wade, who is an avid archer and bow technician, job shadowed me for a day and got a behind the scenes view on what I’m passionate about and our mission here at Nock On. Wade’s experience here led us to a talk about some different brands and ultimately how and why we choose the brands/dealers we decide to work with. We also talk about how there are certain brands that make the archery/hunting/outdoor experience better for those wanting to experience it. All dealer inquiries for nock on archery can email us at [email protected]

This podcast is with Les Welch, an awesome dude I was reunited with in recent years. Les has an amazing timeline in the archery industry. He and I met in a remote camp once and teamed up to double down on two velvet whitetails. We both looked so different that it was a shock seeing him at the Total Archery Challenge events last year. Recently, he and I teamed up all Summer working with all levels of archers and enjoying the experiences of TAC. Les is a savage bowhunter, has a great backcountry portfolio and represents several great companies in the industry.

This podcast is with my good buddy, Andy Stumpf. We met up in Utah for a few hours and recorded an entertaining conversation about several ridiculous topics. This podcast was originally recorded for Andy’s Cleared Hot Podcast but I thought it would be a good listen for the #NockOnNation as well.

This is the missing link! We've discovered how to make hunting easier and better for all! On this podcast, I throw on the headsets with Nic De Castro of @LandTrust_Hunt and John Barklow of @SitkaGear at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Mountain Fest in Park City, Utah. We talk about the critical components of ACCESS & ETIQUETTE. With the increasing challenges of public land hunting, Nic introduces a new, really awesome service that allows private land hunting access to the general public. We also discuss hunting etiquette and the importance of all hunters doing their part in learning, teaching and embracing proper hunting etiquette and woodsmanship. This is a power-packed hour loaded with valuable information for all hunters! Now available wherever you listen to your podcasts!
John Barklow has developed clothing & equipment systems for the military & hunting industries and is a leader at Sitka. He has also taught the skills & mindset required to live in remote wilderness, trained Search & Rescue teams and Special Operations units how to thrive in dynamic mountain environments and educates constantly on his Knowledge From Storms platform.
Nic De Castro is a visionary with a very unique new way for hunters to access new lands for hunting. Barklow and I see this as a critical link between new hunters and the ability to access land and build relationships as stewards of the lands we hunt. - Visa fler
