Today, weâre not sorting people â weâre sorting English words and idioms into Hogwarts houses! Why? Because words, just like people, have different feelings and characteristics. And maybe it will be helpful for you to remember them in connection with one of the houses!

Today, weâre diving into literatureâspecifically, 10 classic American books that I think are worth reading. And since I have a masterâs degree in English and American literature and culture, Iâm not just pulling these titles out of thin airâIâve actually read them all, thought about them a lot, and now, I get to share my thoughts with you. Also, I love literature and talking about it. These books are great in a way that they are very often referenced throughout the culture and you can also find them for free on the internet (legally) since the copyright continues to apply for 70 years after an artist or creator dies and a lot of the authors are dead for longer than that.

Today, it will be just a shorter episode where I am going to share my own journey in English and how I attained the C1 level in English by the age of 18. And no, it is not because I am super talented. I actually donât think I am any more talented than an average person and if everyone did it the way I did it during the same period of their life, they would probably be even better than me. Of course, I was in my teenage years so my brain was still forming and retaining information, I am not saying that it is not an advantage but I still believe there are still a lot of things to take from it.

Okay, today weâre doing a fun quiz episode. I'll give you a situation in which you should use a certain phrase in English that cannot be translated literally in the Czech. I will always say that phrase in Czech, and youâll have three seconds to think of the best English translation, Letâs see how many you can guess correctly! Sometimes there will be many more ways to respond or translate the phrase, I will always offer you one option but if you have other ideas, you can always write them down and write me your answers on Instagram!

Today I want to talk to you about something called the American elections. Iâll explain how they work, and weâll talk about two people you might have heard of: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In the Czech Republic, October and November are the months of scary stories, candles and spirits. And of course, we have Halloween costume parties and it has been more and more popular as time goes on but we donât celebrate it really, do we? So I was thinking that we could look at the history of Halloween. Where does it come from? And how exactly is it celebrated nowadays? Letâs get into it.
