Chancey Williams is a Wyoming native, born and raised on ranch in the least populated county in the state. He went from riding broncs in high school, college and pro rodeos to slinging a six string on stages across the country.

If you didn't know this cowboy crooner before now, he's the real deal! Believe it or not, when he's not out on the road performing you can find him back on the family ranch doing what ranchers do.

Chancey is the only cowboy artist to hold the same distinction as one of his childhood hero's, Chris LeDoux. They are the only 2 cowboys to have ridden as a contestant at Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo and performed on the stage in the same arena.

Bryon White of the Damn Quails sits down with us in Perry, OK to discuss the early days in his musical life.

The Damn Quails started as a weekly jam session between two Oklahoma songwriters. Gabe Marshall and Bryon White met for a weekly gig that soon attracted all kinds of characters playing various instruments. These sessions quickly attracted a crowd, a semi-stable line-up was formed, and The Damn Quails were born. The band released their first record in 2011 entitled “Down The Hatch”. As described in their Spotify bio, Waves in April is a Metalcore band hailing from New Braunfels, Texas, mixing heavy guitars and screaming with melodic choruses. The group is inspired by their favorite bands ranging from Motionless In White and Make Them Suffer to Linkin Park, playing shows and music festivals from Texas to Florida and everywhere in between.

We've followed the music career of two band members, Dierks and Willy Canada for several years. We watched them grow up playing on stage with their dad Cody Canada and his band The Departed, from Idaho to Florida and Texas. The band met at The School of Rock in New Braunfels, TX where they were students. The school gave them the opportunity to develop their musical skills and talents, and now they share what they learned with the students working as instructors.

We sat down with Dierks and Willy along with mom Shannon in an earlier episode #16 here on Musical Miles Podcast. On a recent trip to Texas we caught up with all 4 of the bandmates in New Braunfels to discuss their upcoming sold out show at the legendary Gruene Hall and the future plans for Waves in April.

DISCLAIMER: Audio quality suffers when recording outdoors. We did our best to filter out the background wildlife and road noise. None the less, the content of this interview is great. Thanks to Dierks, Willy, Lukas and Miss Elle! We hope you all enjoy it.

A soulful blend of country, blues and Americana, Jade Marie Patek brings a unique sound to Texas Country music. Jade was nominated for New Female Vocalist of the Year 2018 after her first radio single, “Drive” topped at #28 on The Texas Regional Radio Report, and took home the win in 2019.

Jade comes from a rich musical lineage as the granddaughter of polka legend, Joe Patek. Using her polka roots as inspiration, Jade began writing her own music and performing it live at various venues across the Gulf Coast, Central Texas and beyond. Her original music is purely Texan and definitely original. Her songs are fueled by life experiences, life lessons and a whole lot of heart and soul.

We were first introduced to Jade's music by a close friend and fellow music lover Wes Pahl, who recommended her song "Damn the Rain" she showed up at one of the local music festivals "Hwy 30" here in Idaho. We got to see her live and meet her in person, and we fell in love with her voice and her stage personality right away. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jade in Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX last fall for this interview. If you haven't listened to hear before now, give her a shot.

Raised on classic country and the blues, Julianna Rankin finds herself influenced by a spectrum of artists ranging from Keith Whitley, Bobbie Gentry and Waylon Jennings to Bonnie Raitt, Carole King and James Taylor. Her journey into the industry began in 2018, when she took a headfirst dive towards discovering her artistry while attending Texas A&M University. Since then, Julianna has made her home in New Braunfels, TX, to which she credits a strong circle of talented musicians and local collaboration for recent successes. In the past year, the young singer-songwriter has found herself opening for artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Stoney LaRue, Randall King, Django Walker, Adam Hood, Jason Eady, William Beckmann, Midnight River Choir and more. With her strong vocals and soul-penetrating lyrics, Julianna demands attention from the growing audiences that are lucky enough to catch her sets.

Django Walker told us she was the best kept secret of New Braunfels, TX so he talked the Braun Brothers in bringing her to Idaho for their 40th BBR to join him on stage with Roger Clyne in the Django Walker & Friends Set. After we experienced her incredible vocals we new we had to get her on our podcast as a guest. We sat down with her in Gruene Hall for a great interview.

    Located in Gruene Historic District
Gruene Hall, built in 1878, is Texas’ oldest continually operating and most famous dance hall. By design, not much has physically changed since the Hall was first built. The 6,000 square foot dance hall with a high pitched tin roof still has the original layout with side flaps for open air dancing, a bar in the front, a small lighted stage in the back and a huge outdoor garden.

Through the years, the big winners have always been Gruene Hall’s patrons. A person watching a show never knows if the artist they see at the Hall today will be a star tomorrow, but they can know that the music they hear will always be top notch.

Legends have graced the stage at Gruene and their photos cover the walls in the front bar room. It just doesn't get any better when it comes to Iconic Texas music venues. Put it on your bucket list!

Rio Tripiano is one talented musician, it might be easier to list the instruments he can't play than the ones he can! He's played with dang near every major band in Texas/Oklahoma at one point or another. Seriously Rio's walls are covered with photos and posters of artists and events that he has played during his musical career.

Rio invited us to sit down with him at his home in New Braunfels, TX where we got the condensed version of his career. From his days with the Copper Chiefs to playing with The Damn Quails, Matt Hillyer, Jade Marie Patek and Randall King just to mention a few. He has some great stories to share and we were lucky enough to hear just a few.

So take a minute and pour yourself a @williesdistillery2370 Bourbon ~ I'm wearing their T-shirt during this interview, then sit back and enjoy this episode. Make sure you stick around until the end to hear Rio play us a tune on @tetonguitars !

Hailing from the great State of Texas, Graycie has always wanted to be a singer. From talent shows to open mics and now playing stages all over, she’s doing exactly what she’s always dreamed of. From releasing her first single in March of 2020 to gaining over 1 million streams in just a year with her version of ‘Texas Rain’, Graycie has started to make a name for herself and continues to pour her heart and soul into her music. Inspiration from artists like Patsy Cline, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Dolly, and more have played a vital role in Graycie’s songwriting and love for music. Being a fully independent artist is never easy but Graycie has taken the reigns and there's no slowing her down. When you mix a little western with a little hippie, you have Graycie York.

We have been fans of Graycie since the first time we heard her on Spotify. Then we got to see her perform live at the Hwy 30 Festival in Filer, ID and we became even bigger fans. We fell in love with her voice & stage presence and bigger than life personality. She was one of the first artist that I added to the list of who I wanted to interview on the podcast.

We finally got the chance to sit down with her in San Marcos, TX where she had just performed at the Cheatham Street Warehouse 50th anniversary party. We sure loved our visit, hope you enjoy it too!

JD Grahams story is one of tragedy and triumph. After 25 years of drug addiction, he ended up in the Arizona State Pen for manslaughter. While serving his sentence, JD got sober and found a relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ. Not to mention he honed his songwriting and story telling skills. Please go listen to his album "A Pound of Rust" one of our favorites is the title track!

We met up with JD in Dripping Springs, TX one of our stops on our roadtrip in search of artists with compelling stories. Little did we know how much his story would impact us! Although this is just a glimpse into a life of addiction and ultimate road of recovery, it's a story worth sharing. We hope you enjoy the listen!

Joanna Smith is an American country music singer. Before graduating from Vanderbilt University in 2018, she attended Auburn University for one year before pursuing a music career by playing with Mustang Sally at age eighteen. After leaving the band she began songwriting and recording demos. After signing to a publishing contract with Big Borrassa Music, she wrote two songs for other artists, including "Flying By", which was recorded by Billy Ray Cyrus on his 2007 album Home at Last.[1][2] Also in 2007, Smith's rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was included on the Song of America compilation album.

We met Jo in her hometown of Whitefish, MT where she lives with her husband and 2 children. She recently joined forces with her business partner Cari Klepper to form Big Sky Troubadours/Whitefish Songwriter Festival.

Unbeknownst to country music lovers, we've been listening to the songs of Brice Long, for the past 3 decades. Brice has been a steady source of hits on country radio with 140 of his songs that have been cut by artists like Gary Allen, Randy Houser, Garth Brooks, Cody Johnson, Hank Williams Jr., Chris Young, Lainey Wilson, Randy Travis, George Strait, Reba and many more.

We met up with Brice in Whitefish, Montana during the Big Sky Troubadour "Downtown in the Round" songwriter festival this past October. No doubt one of the most engaging conversations and interviews we've done for the podcast.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee or a good mixed drink with some Montana Distilled Bourbon from Willies Distillery and enjoy this episode of Musical Miles Podcast.

f you don't know who Chad Prather is, you better open up www.google.com and figure it out! Our first in-person encounter with Chad was at his comedy show when he performed in Idaho Falls, ID about 5 years ago. We happened to run into him on the street in front of the theater where he was performing. He is one of the most approachable recognizable people we have ever met.

Our most recent encounter with Chad, was a couple weeks ago in Las Vegas during the 2024 National Finals Rodeo. We were at a watch party in the WestGate Hotel and Casino and there he was. I had him autograph the Teton Guitar we were giving away, and I asked him to be a guest on our podcast. Of course he said yes, and the rest is history!

This is the perfect episode to kick off the NEW YEAR in 2025! Give it a listen NOW! Then make sure you subscribe so you don't miss a single episode of the Musical Miles Podcast!!!!!
