Jenn and Joe dip into the Lifetime vault to cover a sprawling adaptation of a decades-spanning case with Norma Bailey’s “The Capture of the Green River Killer.”
Split narratives recount the nineteen years Gary Ridgway spent hunting for victims in the Pacific Northwest and the task force dedicated to bringing him down while a fictionalized character represents his 49 confirmed victims.
Plus: surprising cameos, perplexing narration, and introducing a killer through his crimes.

On December 21st, 1988, a PanAm Flight 103 fell out of the sky and onto the tiny town of Lockerbie in south-western Scotland. With 270 dead, it was the largest air disaster in UK history. A three-year investigation settled blame on the Libyan regime, but many call this a “miscarriage of justice.”
Jenn walks Joe through the disturbing details of the Lockerbie Air Disaster including several gruesome crime scenes, horrific destruction on a residential street, and multiple conspiracy theories.

We're wrapping up our first month of Ted Bundy texts with Daniel Farrands' Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman (2021) which casts One Tree Hill hunk Chad Michael Murray in the titular role.
Up for discussion: another hot TV actor playing bad, the CW/MTV visual aesthetic, trope-y misogyny in the workplace, removing Liz & the court case, a slasher finale, and Lin Shaye (!).

From 1983 - 1984, Robert Jay Matthews and his white supremacist group The Order organized a series of heists in an effort to wage war on the government. Basing their doctrine on the fictional book The Turner Diaries, Matthews and The Order are responsible for at least two murders and are the subject of the new Jude Law/Nicholas Hoult film 'The Order.'

Special guest Gena Radcliffe joins Jenn and Joe to continue our coverage of Bundy-inspired texts with Joe Berlinger’s controversial Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019).
Disney alum Zac Efron stars in this adaptation of Elizabeth Kendall’s memoir chronicling her relationship with America’s most notorious serial killer. Told through the lens of a frustrated girlfriend, does Berlinger’s film sanitize the reputation of a notorious monster?
Plus: true crime fangirls, too-long titles, amalgamated characters, and glorifying sadistic serial killers

Jenn and Joe kick off our first Ted Bundy text with a look at Matthew Bright's 2002 Ted Bundy.
It's...messy: a collage of style and tone. It's not quite severe enough to be exploitation, but the mix of comedy, violence and true crime don't always work.
Plus: the most successful sequence, how faithful is it as a true crime adaptation, and Michael Reilly Burke and Boti Bliss' respective performances.

Ted Bundy is widely considered one of the most prolific serial killers in US history. This former law student stalked, raped, murdered and dismembered 30 women between 1974 and 1978, though the actual number of victims is believed to be much higher.
Who was he? Who were his victims? How many times did he escape? How was he finally caught?

After spending the month dissecting the appeal and impact of Jonestown and Waco, Jenn and Joe are ready to say goodbye to cults for a bit.
In this episode, we reflect on the similarities and differences between Jim Jones and David Koresh, why cults are still murder, and how we're affected by fictionalized stories both brief and serialized.
Plus: where we're headed in December!
