The first project in James Gunn's new DCU - Creature Commandos - has wrapped its airing of season 1 on Max. Those of you who have been following me know that I have been deliriously excited for the DCU - and in particular, James Gunn's upcoming Superman film which I named my most anticipated upcoming film of 2025 - but I'd be lying if Creature Commandos was one of the most anticipated projects of their initial slate for me just because it felt too similar to The Suicide Squad. This show definitely explains why that is but I went into this more curious about it being the start of the DCU than anything. I reviewed the first 2 episodes and LOVED them, so it's time to catch back up with the show 5 weeks or so later. This review will contain SPOILERS.

2024 has now come and gone... which means it is time for my slew of end of the year rankings! 2024 was a huge year of change in my life and 2025 will continue to be so... but it will also likely be a year of huge change for the format of this podcast and my content creation, especially once we get towards the summer. However, it isn't quite that time yet so let's reflect on 2024!
My annual best of the year list has been delayed until the end of January simply because there are too many films that had a wide U.S. release date in 2024 that I won't have a chance to see for a few weeks, because of delayed releases in both the U.K. and Asia. That's how you know the movies have truly bounced back! In the meantime, I'll be kicking things off with a double-header: my top 5 most surprising and top 5 most disappointing movies of 2024! I'll be starting off with my most disappointing and then ending this episode off on more of a positive note, with my most surprising films of the year. 2024 was a huge mixed bag of a year of movies, if you ask me, and this list definitely reflects that. These are NOT my least favorite and favorite films of the year, but rather films that fell short of and exceeded my expectations respectively. As always, this is a subjective list so make sure to give me your lists in the comments on Spotify! Also let me know which of the films I have listed were you most disappointed by in this episode's associated Spotify Poll!

He's back! Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raced into U.S. theaters last week... but it's having a bit of a, ironically, slow global rollout. I finally had the chance to see the film and when it comes to the Sonic movies, I've mildly enjoyed them. I definitely preferred 2 to 1 but the CGI cast is fun and more Jim Carrey action is always welcome. Sonic 3 had A LOT of hype and buzz around it and seemingly, the film delivered for most fans. Did I feel the same way? Find out in this review!

The third and final season of What If…? completed its 8-day run on Disney+ just recently. As a huge fan of the MCU, it’s been no secret that my interest in the projects I’m not as excited about in this universe has been waning over the past year. And unfortunately, What If…? is absolutely one of those projects because I just don’t think this show has taken full advantage of its very cool premise at all. Something about the format of this show has never quite worked for me. Well, the show has now ended. Was the third season the strongest of the three? Find out in this SPOILER-FILLED review where I’ll be breaking down every individual episode.

Welp. Sony did it again! Due to a delayed release where I live, I only just got a chance to see... Kraven the Hunter: the latest bad comic book movie from Sony. This universe has been a total disaster and the box office performance of Kraven has cemented the incomparable legacy that this universe is gonna have. It may not be over just yet, but it does seem like Sony is going to be taking a pause to regroup and restart, in some way, an attempt to make a connected standalone Spider-Man universe, outside of the MCU. With surefire hits like Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 and Beyond the Spider-Verse still on the way, Sony has no reason to sell the onscreen rights of the character back to Marvel but their recent failures certainly have them clamoring for more hits. In this episode, I'll be covering the bamboozling Kraven the Hunter film we just got and the main reasons that this universe went so wrong!

The King has returned! Barry Jenkins’ Lion King prequel - Mufasa: The Lion King - has released in theaters and I had the chance to check it out just recently. The Lion King is my favorite animated film of all-time but beyond further reflection and pondering, the remake was quite a big letdown that lacked much of the soul and creativity of that original animated film. That’s why I was very skeptical about Barry Jenkins’ prequel and I wanted nothing more than to be excited about more movies set in the continuity of The Lion King. Barry Jenkins’ involvement certainly had my curiosity piqued though. Did the movie win me over, or is this yet another soulless live-action Disney film? Find out in this review!

The world seems slightly better and more hopeful today… as the amazing teaser trailer for James Gunn’s Superman has finally landed online. I put out a full reaction to the trailer, covering my thoughts before watching it and after in an over 20-minute discussion… but we’re not done just yet. There is SO MUCH MORE in this trailer than I thought we were going to get for a teaser and, of course, I’ll be giving you guys a detailed, frame-by-frame breakdown of this trailer. Check out the episode for FULL DETAILS on any comic references, easter eggs, theories about the main villains and the ‘adhoc Justice League’ that’s in this film. Enjoy! See you all July 11, 2025!
Synopsis: ‘James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.’

Hey everyone… it’s finally time to believe a man can fly again! The first teaser trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, set to hit theaters July 11, 2025 and the first film in the rebooted DCU, has now dropped online from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. Anyone who’s listened to more than one episode probably knows that I’ve been deliriously excited for James Gunn’s Superman, as Gunn has always and is still making movies that resonate with me emotionally. He does the same for TV as I’ve even been really enjoying the Gunn-written Creature Commandos, the soft launch of the DCU that is ongoing on Max. Superman has also been one of my favorite characters since I was a child so naturally, this was a match made in heaven as far as I’m concerned. Does the trailer live up to the hype, or does it fall short of expectations and make me cornered for the DCU? Find out in this initial reaction to the trailer!

The Karate Kid franchise finally returns to the big screen after 15 years, with the upcoming release of Karate Kid: Legends, which will see the long-anticipated team up of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han. I, of course, love the original Karate Kid and am a huge Cobra Kai fan (with the exception of this final season so far), but… I have had little to no interest in this film. That’s because I honestly think Cobra Kai has milked this universe and its characters pretty much to their maximum potential, and I found the decision to include Daniel to be pretty cynical. As a fan of this franchise, did this trailer make this one of my most anticipated movies of next year? Find out in this initial reaction to the trailer!

Hey everyone, it's finally time to return to Middle Earth! The latest attempt at reviving the iconic Tolkien franchise on the big screen, but this time it's anime-inspired. The original trilogy is comprised of movies that are all some of my favorite movies of all-time. Return of the King - in particular - is an easy top 5 favorite movie ever for me. I have been watching these movies as long as I can remember and I honestly think, while not great, The Hobbit movies are somewhat over-hated. That being said, I went into War of the Rohirrim with virtually no interest, due to the bland marketing and being someone who's not fully into anime. I respect WB taking a big swing with this franchise but the style and story did not seem very interesting to me. Does it live up to the best of the franchise or is it going to match the diminishing returns this franchise has had since the trilogy? Find out in this review!
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim:
Directed by: Kenji Kamiyama
Screenplay by: Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews and Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou

Story by: Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews and Philippa Boyens
Produced by: Philippa Boyens, Joseph Chou, Jason DeMarco

Music by: Stephen Gallagher
Edited by: Tsuyoshi Sadamatsu
Casting by: Andy Brierley

Synopsis: 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy, a sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm Hammerhand and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

Hey everyone, welcome back to MOVIE Morning for a review of the film Unstoppable, a remarkably inspiring true story Anthony Robles, a man born with one leg and a dream to win one of the biggest wrestling competitions in North America. This film doesn't officially hit Prime Video ('wide release') until mid-January so, because of that, I wasn't entirely sure whether to drop this review now but I thought I'd get ahead of the curve. The film just started its limited release in only a few countries, including the UK so I was able to see it just a little early. Is this a sports movie worth watching? Find out in this review!

The DCU has officially begun! Creature Commandos has now debuted with its first 2 episodes on Max and other platforms across the world. James Gunn is back to deliver us more glorious, unhinged, very adult superhero fare with tons of heart, violence and... monsters. As you all know, I have been so in on what James Gunn is building with his and Peter Safran's upcoming DC Universe, that will be in full flow with Superman, releasing on July 11, 2025. As you all also know, James Gunn very often tells stories that feel very meaningful to me, despite leaning so heavy into the Sci-Fi and insane violence, depending on whether you look at Guardians of the Galaxy or The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker. So, does Creature Commandos continues James Gunn's incredible streak of very entertaining and heartfelt comic book movies and shows, or is it his first major miss? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review!
Synopsis: Follows a group of military super humans composed by a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein's monster and a gorgon.

Hey everyone... *sigh*, here we go again. I know I start every Star Wars review with that statement but I'm honestly becoming more and more frustrated by how this franchise has been going on TV and the types of conversations it's stirring up online. That being said, Skeleton Crew was a show I was interested in initially, with the involvement of Jon Watts and a very interesting line-up of directors, for good and for bad. I thought the idea of doing a Goonies-like Star Wars show with Jude Law as a companion seemed kind of cool. That being said, most of the trailers and the recent shows squandered pretty much all that excitement. Every time I start up one of these shows though, I have a glimmer of hope flow through me but did the first 2 episodes snuff out that hope? Let's discuss it, and don't worry, there will be NO SPOILERS in this review.
Synopsis: Four ordinary kids search for their home planet after getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy. - Lucasfilm

Hey everyone, Amy Adams' latest film - Nightbitch - releases in theaters next week and I had the pleasure of seeing it as part of the London Film Festival back in October. I have been really curious what the general audience reaction was going to be in this film and we're still a few days away from it releasing so I'm still anticipating that for sure. Hey everyone, Moana and Maui are back with another adventure! The first Moana is one of the most popular and beloved Disney films of the modern generation; it has consistently been one of the most streamed films ever since it came out, especially once Disney+ launched back in 2019. Because of that, it's no surprise that Disney had a sequel on the way but the origins of this film are pretty interesting. It was originally going to be a Disney+ series but because Disney was so confident in how good it was, it was converted to a theatrical film. That news didn't exactly instill me with confidence but I also don't love the first Moana so I wasn't super invested in how the sequel would turn out. Is it one of the good animated films of 2024? Well, let's find out!

Season 2 of Netflix's Arcane, the final season, wrapped up its 3-act release just a couple of days ago. I was a HUGE fan of season 1 but was late in getting around to season 2 because I knew I NEEDED to rewatch season 1. It's been way, way, WAY too long since season 1 and since I definitely had my preferences of which storylines in season 1 I preferred over the others, I wanted to watch this 2-season journey back-to-back as a full story just like Riot intended. This show has garnered lots of hype over the last few weeks and it has now wrapped up. Does season 2 of Arcane live up to season 1 or is it an underwhelming conclusion to a great start to the journey? Find out in this SPOILER-FILLED review!

Hey everyone, Jon M. Chu's Wicked - actually titled Wicked: Part I in the movie - has now hit theaters. To let you know right upfront, I'm not necessarily the biggest musical guy and witchcraft fantasy stuff has never been a genre of film & TV that I've ever been interested in. Plus, I have never seen the broadway play so have virtually no connection to the source material. To add fuel to the fire, I also thought the trailers were pretty bad... which is why I was bamboozled when the first reviews came out absolutely praising this movie to high heavens. I have now seen the film. Is it overhyped or legitimately Best Picture worthy? Find out in this review!
Wicked:

Hey everybody... well, well, well. It seems the age of 3D animated live-action remakes has officially begin with the upcoming release of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, coming from the same director as all 3 films of the animated trilogy. The How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is my favorite animated franchise of all-time (yes, more so than Toy Story). They also mean a lot to me: I have been watching these movies since they came out and fell in love with them yet again when I rewatched the trilogy earlier this year. That being said, to say I've been skeptical at the prospect of a live-action remake would be accurate. I have been very unsure as to what purpose this adaptation would serve. With the official release of this gorgeous teaser trailer, has my opinion changed?
Click on the link below to listen to a ranking of my top 10 animated films of all-time... which, of course, includes at least one How to Train Your Dragon film!
