On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are remembering one of the greats: Val Kilmer. We watched the 1988 film from Ron Howard, Willow.

Don’t you hate it when you’re just trying to live a quiet, normal life, plowing your fields and loving your family, and you’re suddenly tasked with going on a grand adventure to keep an evil witch from killing an innocent baby?

I know I do. Who knows if I’d have the courage and gumption to face that task head-on like Willow does. One thing’s for sure—it makes for a heck of an adventure tale!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are traveling deep underground to stop an ancient ghost-sorcerer. We watched the 1986 film from John Carpenter, Big Trouble in Little China.

Anybody here reading have dazzling green eyes? Our suggestion to you is either get colored contacts or get ready to do battle against Lo Pan, the most fearsome Chinese sorcerer this side of whatever the heck city this movie takes place in.

Wait, are we to believe that the city is actually called “Chinatown”? All right. This is our monthly B-movie after all. Listen on to discover how we rate this, ahem, unique movie.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are learning a lot about what it takes to be a decent guy. We watched the 1986 film from Spike Lee, She’s Gotta Have It.

Honestly, I’m not joking about that first sentence. I believe that Steven and I are nowhere near as bad as Jamie, Greer, and Mars. Watching them is enough to send a chill down one’s spine. They are a cautionary tale to men everywhere.

Nola deserves better than them, and I hope that one day she finds it. What we did was find and talk about a phenomenal director’s excellent first film. Enjoy!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean should have just kept on driving. We watched the 1986 film from Robert Harmon, The Hitcher.

I’m sure that all of us were told that we should never in a million years pick up a hitchhiker from the side of any road. But what if that hitchhiker… is you? And you’re out for blood!

To continue celebrating Sean’s (that’s me!) birthday month, we’re venturing deep into the clearly indie film world of the ‘80s. It’s going to be thrilling, intense, and pretty damn terrifying.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are going on an adventure… and opening up our hearts. We watched the 1986 film by Rob Reiner, Stand by Me.

Is there a better way to kick off this entire month of celebrating the birth of me, Sean, than by doing a whole load of movies from the year of my birth? Since I’m the one writing these things, I’m gonna go with heck no!

I wanted to see a bunch of movies that have somehow passed me by, or are otherwise interesting looking. To that end, this one is a tale of friendly, brotherly love. You might think it’s just about the body (like I did), but you’d be wrong!

So join us in celebrating a wonderful film by a wonderful director chosen by a wonderful podcast co-host. There may be no dead bodies here, but there will be friendly conversation.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean will have to deal with the consequences of their actions. We watched the 2010 film from Brandon Vietti, Batman: Under the Red Hood.

When will everybody learn: the Joker absolutely, positively cannot be trusted under any circumstances! The dude is chaos incarnate. Even he likely has no idea what he’s going to do next.

One thing is for sure: our old friend Batman is going to face the shortcomings of his personal code. It’ll be a tough one, that’s for sure.

Put on your dreariest dark clothes and cue Taps because the world just lost one of its greatest heroes. We’re sorry to inform you that… Superman is no more.

We’re all just going about our collective days, never even thinking that some grotesque monster from the stars is going to come and devastate the planet. Who could ever plan for something like that?

Join us in shedding a tear and pouring one out for ol’ Supes. He was truly a phenomenal being that we were lucky to have. And, as always, a big double middle finger to Doomsday. That asshole…

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are teaming up to prevent an immortal madman from killing loads of innocent people. We watched the 2012 film from Lauren Montgomery, Justice League: Doom.

This film presents one of the great moral questions of our time: is Batman right to keep secret tabs on all the other superpowered heroes in the Justice League? Or is he a jackass for even trying?

No one would blame him for doing that with the scores of baddies they all face. That’s just good hero-ing. But with Superman? Wonder Woman? This is the sort of question that’s liable to keep a person up at night (and should be taught in philosophy classes).

Listen on to hear how we feel. Also there’s a lot of marveling (no pun intended) about this excellent film. Enjoy!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are on the run from rampaging killbots who are trying to ruin everyone’s good times. We watched the 1986 film from Jim Wynorski, Chopping Mall.

Let’s run down our schlocky ‘80s movie checklist. Does this film have:

A ridiculous story that won’t hold up under any scrutiny? Check.Casual racism that’s hardly ever addressed? Check. An almost obscene amount of gory violence? Check.Gratuitous boob shots? You’d better believe that’s a check.

Sounds like this is a perfect addition to our collection of B-movies. Listen on to find out if we rank this one brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are locked, loaded, and ready to take down some crime. We watched the 1987 film from Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop.

On the one hand, Officer Alex Murphy got literally shot to pieces by a bunch of murderous thugs. On the other hand, he ended up becoming an unstoppable justice machine.

Most people would say that’s a terrible trade-off, but who among us hasn’t dreamt of being invulnerable and badass? Who hasn’t wanted to be draped in chrome?

I posit that becoming RoboCop wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Get rid of the memory suppression and he’s pretty much a superhero. That isn’t too bad.

If you want to live, you should probably come with me… No, that’s not a threat or anything. I’m just saying that there could be a murderous future robot coming after you. So come on!

Because if there’s one thing I know about robots from the future, there’s at least a 50/50 chance that it’ll be the evil kind of robot. It’s not going to want to be your friend. It’s going to try tearing you apart.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are fighting the man from taking our home… with a little help from our (robo) friends. We watched the 1987 film from Matthew Robbins, *batteries not included.

Sometimes the “little green men” from outer space aren’t so green or scary. Sometimes they’re little UFOs. Sometimes they’re our friends. And sometimes they have little UFO babies.

Not all alien stories need to be creepy or scary. They don’t have to be murderous Xenomorphs or terrifying tripods from Mars. They can be our little buddies.

The next time you hear something go bump in the night, let’s assume that we’ll find new friends who will fix all of our problems. That’s what I want us to learn from this delightful film.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are venturing into the wild robotic world of the 1980s. We watched the 1986 film from John Badham and its 1988 sequel from Kenneth Johnson, Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2.

In a possible future filled with Terminators, RoboCops, and M3GANs, we implore you to find the robo-humanity inside your processing units and be more like Johnny 5.

He represents all that we should strive to be: curious, forgiving, and friendly. He’s a companion to all who deserve him. He’s the hero we need in these dark times.

As we barrel inexorably toward the most inevitable of American pseudo-holidays, the Super Bowl, I think it’s a good time to remind all of us what Mama always taught us:

    Foosball is the devil.

You know what isn’t the devil? An ice cold glass of high quality H₂O. Whether it’s wrasslin’ a gator or winning the big game, if there’s one thing that we can all learn from Mr. Bobby Boucher, it’s that hydration is essential.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are having to deal with someone who’s a little too much of a fan. We watched the 1990 film from Rob Reiner, Misery.

I’ll be the first to say that we love our fans. You intrepid, stalwart listeners, you, who download a new episode of More Movies Please! every single dang week, we appreciate your support.

But after watching this film, we’re going to be a lot more careful on the roads. Not that I think any of you would kidnap, imprison, or hobble either of us, but… Well, you know… You never can be too sure about these things.

We still love you all though! And we hope that you enjoy another week of Kathy Bates lovin’ with her Oscar-winning performance. It’s a doozy!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are navigating this weird, scary new world of growing up. We watched the 2023 film from Kelly Fremon Craig, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Ah, the joys of puberty. The changing voice, the new hair sprouting up everywhere, and who knows what the heck is going on down in the bathing suit area. It’s a time we all share and remember fondly.

Wait, did I say “joy”? Did I refer to it “fondly”? I must be off my rocker today, because puberty is none of those things for anybody. Nowhere is that truth better depicted in the story of Margaret and her evolving life.

For week two of our Kathy Bates appreciation month, we’ve got a heart-warming classic story. Enjoy the film and join us in loving a great performance by one of cinema’s all-time greats.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are frying up something tasty for y’all. We watched the 1991 film from Jon Avnet, Fried Green Tomatoes.

To kick off our entire month full of Kathy Bates love, we present to you one of the craziest, loveliest, movingest films we’ve ever had the pleasure of talking about on this podcast.

What do you get when you throw in a dash of death and dismemberment, a heap of the freaking Klan, and a whole soupçon of literal cannibalism? You get this incredible film, of course!

Who would have ever guessed those points would also describe a movie about intergenerational storytelling and illicit lesbian feelings? We sure as heck didn’t. What better way to kick off this wonderful month of love?

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to celebrate the new millennium in peace! We watched the 2024 film from Kyle Mooney, Y2K.

Remember those halcyon days when our pants were baggy and saggy, our Tamagotchis controlled our lives, and the world was on the brink of destruction because of a computer coding oversight?

Pepperidge Farm remembers. The year 2000 was a wild one. If you weren’t alive back then, like most of the cast of this film, then take our word for it—all of this actually happened. If you were alive, then shhhh… keep it a secret!

To kick off this new year—25 freaking years after the subject of this film—we’re making Y2K our B-movie of the month. Will it be brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder?
