Any mom of children knows that life is full of surprises. But besides taking care of the regular responsibilities of motherhood, teaching your own children makes you feel like there aren't enough hours in the day! With a mega brood of my own, I understand the frustration. Today we are going to discuss ways I have found time for homeschooling.

Recently we have been delving deeply into the idea of notebooking as a homeschooling method of learning. This is partly because of our current project of creating some "notebooking books" that we are calling Commonplace Books. (We held a contest on the Mom Delights YouTube community and it was so much fun!).
Anyways, as I have been sharing so much on the subject, a number of questions arose from our audience. I thought it would be a good idea to take some time and answer as many of them as I could.

Homeschooling, and having a traditional, large family, is an invitation to conflict with our culture. I means taking a stand and withstanding the consequences of holding to the truth even if we lose some things in the short-run. In this video I am sharing some of the precepts that have helped me choose truth over convenience.

It has always been the tendency for people to lord it over each other and for one portion of people to become elitists and use the rest of the people for their own ends. However, it is one thing to be in bondage physically, and another to be in bondage in one's soul. This post will be dealing specifically with homeschooling slavery.

When I discovered the McGuffey Readers I was on the verge of burn out from trying to use the Charlotte Mason method with seven or more children at one time. It was difficult to find appropriate passages of poetry and prose for everyone on his or her particular level. It was even more difficult trying to keep track of their work when it was done. McGuffey gave me a break. Included in each reader was a collection of the greatest literature, both prose and poetry, of the English language. No more searching, no more having to compile everything myself and then watch my hard work disintegrate before my eyes as my children and I both lost track.

How do you homeschool an elephant? Let's tackle this question.
Why is homeschooling like an elephant? Because education is huge, colossal, and mammoth! It pretty much encompasses anything and everything a person needs to know, doesn't it?
Specifically, we are going to talk about how homeschooling is like an elephant in:Outcomeand

Recently a few of my viewers on YouTube asked if I would address the aesthetics side of motherhood. They actually accused me of looking “put together.” Actually, I’ve always been the kind of girlie-girl that is also creatively distracted. This means I like pretty things in the abstract, and I often start the day with the best of intentions, but by the end of the day I become forgetful of my appearance and end up looking like a hot mess!
Still, I try to follow certain practices so I at least begin with beauty. This is what we will be discussing (without judgement or pressure) in this podcast.

When it comes to motherhood, comparison can cause us to become toxic to the very people we most want to love and care for. Our pressure to conform to some romanticized picture of what a mother should look like, act like, and have. But there is a remedy: Contentment.

Not only does God see moms at home who are pouring out their lives for their children, He has given them a specific promise they can rely on in every situation they face: He promises JOY!

Does having kids make you poor?
Poor is relative. When we invest in the eternal things, the material things become richer, and we become wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice.

There is something conspicuously absent in our homeschooling.
It’s not curricula.
It’s not supplies.
It’s not physical exercise.
It’s not test preparation.
It is something so simple that we rarely think about it, yet it is so profound that we are doomed to fail without it.

If you don’t develop the art of ignoring, you will crash and burn as a mother.
Oh, yes, I believe in keeping a neat house, of doing things ahead, and of making life simple, but if you looked deep into my psyche and tried to learn the secrets of how I have handled life with my 15, homeschooled children, I think you may be a bit surprised to find that one of the best things I ever learned was how to ignore.
