Floating on your back in a clear blue lake, looking up at the sky, and realizing that the sky has a magnetic quality that allows your thoughts to float right out and up into the sky. Watching those thoughts float all the way up into the sky - and disappear. And then, in your imagination, your spine unzips, from the base of your skull all the way down to your sacrum, and out of your body flows anything unhealthy, unwanted - old memories, resentments, bad feelings, old negative thought patterns and habits, all those things that have served their time, those images, memories, thoughts, feelings, anything that is unhealthy, any cell that is weak and unhealthy goes down, to the bottom of the lake.

Imagine yourself in a cozy cabin in the woods on a winter evening. A fire crackles in the fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Beautiful birds come in to nestle by the warmth of the flames. Take a moment to scan your mind for any worries, concerns, or problems you may have. For each one you find, visualize sending it to a bird. Then, watch as the bird flies away, carrying your worries with it.

I’ve learned that change brings strength into my life and, unexpectedly, more self-gratification. When you embrace change and learn to accept it as a part of life, you are filled with more calmness, peace, and courage.

Whenever something comes up that causes you to tighten up or to turn away, see if you can let it RAIN - Recognize, Accept, Investigate by getting curious and Note your experience.
Old self-judgment habit loops, that old way of being, don’t serve you anymore. You can recognize, accept it as a habit, and not who you really are. And, at that moment, as you note what is happening - as a thought, as a sensation - you naturally start to let go. Through the process, nurture yourself and move into a more authentic and true way of being right in that moment, rather than being identified with some old habit pattern.

Focus on tapping into ways to help you go easy on yourself when you contract and pull that anxiety knot tighter and tighter by judging or beating yourself up. This practice may also help you let go a bit and move more in the direction of expansion rather than contraction. This practice can help you start to soften and to accept both others and yourself as we are. This helps you let go of what's happened in the past and learn from it so you can move forward in the present. It might even change the brain region that gets activated when you get anxious or caught up in self-judgment. This brain region also gets really quiet when we practice loving kindness.

The act of noting can help us navigate stress and anxiety better. By labeling and acknowledging these feelings, instead of suppressing or ignoring them, we can create a mindset to process them more even-handedly, reducing their impact over time.

If you are experiencing strong, difficult emotions due to the upcoming election; you are not alone. This may make daily life isolating; you are not alone. All of this is draining, depleting; but you are not alone.
All things are impermanent, even political situations that are out of our control. With acceptance of suffering, we can actually focus on what’s important. In contrast when we reject suffering, run away from suffering, we shelter ourselves in ignorance . . . no growth. So let’s build hope.

How does anxiety show up for you the most? Do you feel nervous or on edge? Do you have trouble relaxing or being really restless that it's hard to sit still? Maybe you feel afraid as if something awful will happen, worrying too much about different things, or not being able to control worrying? Or does it show up in things like binge watching Netflix or being addicted to your phone? Maybe it’s a combination . . or all of the above.
When meditating, the part of your brain that gets activated by fear quiets down.

Feeling not good enough about yourself may come from childhood wounds where we learn patterns and perspectives from our upbringing. The first part of my mindful practice is recognizing that your thoughts and beliefs are only thoughts. Even though they may be based on life experiences, you can choose and change the perspective of them anytime. These self-doubts hold a lot less weight when you realize that they are just thoughts in your mind. The second part of my mindful practice is recognizing that self-love is the key to feeling that you are enough.

This meditation is about being in the flow - where you can lose all sense of self, all sense of environment. Not zoning out - but zoning in. Being so focused that time isn’t there. Flow cannot be forced. Unfortunately, the more we work not to be anxious or to get the feeling of flow, the more likely we are to get in our own way. We trip ourselves up and prevent ourselves from the state of flow. We can however unwind from contraction that comes from being caught up in feeling guilty, stressed, anxious. And as that contraction unwinds, especially with the help of being mindful, we naturally expand, moving more in the direction of joy, more towards flow.
