Still in detention, Mickey needs to deliver a note to Asher before he can get some of the good stuff off Shane. In the meantime, Tina is under pressure from Tanya. By the time Mickey discovers he's alone again he already has a new best friend so things, as ever, are looking up for young Michael!
Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G major, BWV 1048 - II. Adagio (Recorder Ensemble Arrangement)

Mickey has a hard time of it, stuck in a detention centre in the big smoke (Dublin). He keeps getting beaten up and he hates egss. Thankfully he finds two things to help take him away from all that: Basketball - and, now for the first time in his life... Heroin.
-
It's the age-old problem: Mickey's mother doesn't like Mickey's girlfriend having too much influence on her son's behaviour. What can a mother do about it? Tanya Collins has her own ways and means.
-
Finally the family move into their new home. While he's choosing a bedroom, Mickey fondly recalls the time he was up in Shandon tower with his brother Cillian. Later, Stacey finds a girlfriend for Mickey. And she's alright too.
-
Mickey feels lonely so decides to have a visit to the one place he has had some stability in his life. Later he has a happy meal in McDonald's.
-
The audience is ready as Tanya Collins has her day in court and boy does she not fail to impress.
-
Mickey's due in court, but his mother decides to treat the whole family to a nice holiday in Spain instead.
-
Mickey's mother sues the state, claiming Mr. Mulcahy molested Mickey and "turned him queer". Thankfully Stacey has a way to prove this untrue.
-
The boys meet Bridie, who minds their sister Tara.
-
The two boys go looking for their pony, which has been "robbed by the travellers". Cillian is adamant they brought him to Midleton. Mickey has his doubts, but after a great day out he no longer cares. Meanwhile Con retrieves the pony and sets up a lookout for the travellers, for when they come back. This excites young Mickey, until Cillian shocks his younger brother by suggesting they go back to school!
-
Mickey is sent to a home for two nights, until Cillian confesses. His relationship with his mother is somewhat fractured for a while, but when Cillian returns, she rewards him with a pony that she names after Mickey.
-
Rich Uncle Con decides to treat the whole family (and Stacey) to a holiday in Limerick and beyond, to give the cops a chance to forget about the big fire the boys set. Or maybe they're in hiding for something Tanya and Stacey have done? Or maybe there's some other reason?
-
Mickey and Cillian need the dagger from under their mam's bed in order to see what's behind the door in the local quarry. This sets in motion events that will stick with Mickey for the rest of his life.
-
Apart from his mother, two women helped look after Mickey and the other children: Mary down the road (dubbed "Murder She Wrote" by Mickey's mother) and his mother's best friend and sidekick, Stacey. Stacey minded the kids and his mother minded her, due to her scatty nature and various addictions.

Con (known as Cob) was a big tough man. Everyone knew that, but no one outside the family knew he was soft too, though. He got softer and softer as he grew older. Probably watching Judge Judy on the telly with a bag of cans is what done it for him. He was better than anyone at buying drink and shoplifting.
-
Mickey laments how nobody would help his poor mother, growing up. Everyone just took things from her and it wasn't fair, but Mickey was always there for her. Only Mickey.
-
Mickey remembers that time he broke into a house with his brother and collapsed after taking a tablet he found there and went to live with a man called Mr. Mulcahy for a year. Thus begins Mickey's tale...
