  • Welcome back to the Mastering Mindset Podcast and today I have someone really special to introduce to you all. With a background in Kinesiology and a performance coach to many A-list athletes, Brandon Harris co-founded Premier Fitness Systems based in Arizona and has a very unique philosophy to his approach to training bodies and minds.

I know Brandon because we share a client who plays on the Korn Ferry Tour, and I've grown to really admire his work and his philosophy behind what he does. It's also really entertaining to watch. If you go to his Instagram account, which are in the show notes below, you'll see that he is also Sean Suga O'Malley's performance coach. Sean O'Malley is a MMA fighter currently ranked 13th in the UFC Bantamweight rankings. Dana White, president of the UFC organization speaks very highly of Suga Sean saying he is the next big thing to the UFC organization.

It's great to see Brandon sharing his wisdom and teachings inside the octagon and on the course. In this episode I asked Brandon what themes he notices among all the elite performers and he boils it down to a beautiful phrase - it's their relationship to fear and how well they lean into it.

Brandon not only trains the human body to perform and operate like a machine... he is also very skilled in breath work and the mind body connection. Brandon shares his wisdom and his knowledge with us on how we too can begin performing like an elite athlete using breath work and understanding our mind body connection. Here is Brandon Harris on the Mastering Mindset Podcast. Hope you enjoy!

  • We are hearing and reading all about Scottie Scheffler these days, but I want to see if we can unpack his mindset to try to understand how Scottie thinks on and off the golf course so that we too can glean lessons from him to apply in our own lives that would help improve the quality of our life and our game.

Here is a summary of what we discuss in today's episode:

#1: Let’s talk about Scottie’s faith. Why is it so important to have a deeper purpose to life and in what we do? How does connecting with something bigger than us allow us to play and think better during the most stressful and pressured-filled moments of our lives?

#2 Get off the Hedonic treadmill.

#3 Surround yourself with a great supportive team.

#4 Being sincerely okay to make mistakes.

#5 High performers find a way to compete, show up, and execute, in spite of how they feel.

  • How do you focus better? how do you build your confidence and sustain it for long periods of time...even if you don't feel confidence about your game? What is our approach in addressing failure and the fear behind it?

In this episode, I had the unique opportunity to unpack the mind of Christian Smith, who is currently the Senior Mental Conditioning Coach at the IMG Academy in Florida specializing on mental conditioning for golfers.

Christian addresses some critical aspects to the mental side of golf. You will hear us talk about confidence and managing expectations for younger athletes and embracing more of an improving mindset rather than a proving mindset. As a mental conditioning coach, we preach the phrase "focus on the process..." but what does that really mean? You'll hear a phrase that Christian uses with all of his elite junior athletes that he trains day in and day out on building successful experiences into their games. This is an incredible episode loaded with valuable content so I encourage you to get your pen and papers out because I believe you'll be writing down some notes that will help improve your mind as it relates to golf. Let's dive into the conversation with Christian Smith over at the IMG Academy in Florida.

  • Jaden is a junior golfing phenom. He is currently 12yo and is one of the hottest junior golfers in the world.

In this episode, we get a sneak peak into the training and development of this young phenom through the lens of his father, Chris. Through the development of Jaden's branding, media management, caddying, travel agent, coach, and dad - we explore what it's like to actually raise an elite junior golfer and all that it entails.

What I most appreciate about this interview with Jaden's dad, Chris, is his willingness to share his vulnerability around the fact that there is no playbook for this... and a lot of what he is doing is through the support of his community and seeking his own personal development so that he can show up as a father to Jaden first and foremost - and find ways to give Jaden his best, while also making it fun, and enjoyable along the way.

In this episode we talk about the challenges of raising a junior athlete and the importance of mental training at the right developmental age.

There are many great resources for this and my team and I are putting on a mental skills challenge for anyone to get introduced to mental performance training and what the benefits are for yourself and your child. If you are interested in participating, I will be going LIVE for 3 days talking about mental skills and how to move through mental blocks. • Have you ever been curious as to what a sport psychology coaching session actually sounds and feels like? In this episode, you are going to find out.

I have the unique permission and opportunity to share a recent session I did unpacking the mind and the golf game of Jayden Ramos, a senior at St. Ignatious High School in Northern California. Jayden has committed to play golf in college at Hawaii next year and he is one of our newest members of MPGA

    www.drmatpark.com

Jayden is currently experiencing some challenges in his game especially in the areas of consistency and thinking more positively around the course. In this process of rebuilding, he's recognized the importance and need of mental training for his game. He has heard of MPGA and decided to give it a shot. And ever since he's joined, he has been all in. Last week, we put out a gratitude challenge where members had to reflect on 3 good things that happened each day and reflect on them. Each member was asked to share their reflections and insights within the MPGA community and that we would select a winner at the end of the week who showed most consistency and deliberate practice throughout the exercise. Jayden wrote his reflections everyday for 7 days straight and has continued on, hence he was our winner for that challenge. He won a gift session with me and Coach Johnathan, another mastering mindset coach inside the MPGA academy and we were given the permission to share this session with you all here.

Jayden’s perspective to mental training is fascinating and he demonstrates a maturity well beyond his years. In this episode, we unpack the difference between a perfectionistic mindset vs a progressionistic mindset, a phrase Jayden introduced to me. We also talk about his approach of letting go of control to gain control, to focus only on the process, and how best to get into the neutral zone. We ended the session discussing various post shot routines and specific examples that my clients have used. If any of these topics interest you, this is an episode (or rather session) you don’t want to miss.

This is my first time sharing a student/coach session with you and I hope you enjoy it as much as I had. Here is Jayden Ramos inside the MPGA academy.
