Had a chat with Pastor Tom Ryberg about Good Friday, dirty hippies, and the appropriation of religious iconography by non-religious folk. Fun!
Tom is a pastor at the United Church of Christ, presently serving a church in Battle Creek, MI. Check out this article he wrote for the Battle Creek Inquirer about guns, crime and humanity.

She's a therapist who specializes in alternative sexualities, currently pursing a PHD in Human Sexuality, and the co-organizer of the first ever AltSexNYC conference, which you can (and should) learn about here. We discuss the commonly held misconception that being into kink is caused by trauma and how that relates to the idea of the sad clown in comedy. Enjoy, and check back soon!

Holiest of Molies, get your rolliest of pollies to the showiest of showies!
Ahem. All that is to say, we'll be talking religion at this month's Malignant Brain Humor. Our panel features comedic voices from the religious to the non. Bring your Jewish guilt, your catholic shame or your non-denominational self-esteem and enjoy the show!
As always, if you have comedy vids that you especially like which touch on or around the subject, please post them below! I will watch them and be available to discuss them here or in person at the show.
Religiolously yours,
Mike

Loved this panel. Check them out on the episode and individually.
Hey. Sometimes people say words. And then other people get angry at them. And then we fight over whether the people who got angry were wrong to get so angry or if the people who said the words were wrong to say the words. WHO'S THE REAL VICTIM HERE? WHO DO I SHOOT? (Non-Trigger warning: There will be no shootings at the show).
We'll be talking about political correctness. Is it a thing? Is it too much of a thing? Does it tarnish the good name of Politics? Is it even that correct?
The people on this show. They're phenomenal. You are going to like them and it. And I'm going to like you for coming.
These are their names.

Lance Weiss is a hilarious comedian and a delight to chat with. He was a Top 4 finalist in CMT’s “Next Big Comic”, and on NBC’s “The Today Show,” MTV, Bravo, PBS, NY1, Sirius/XM, Cosmo.com, AOL.com, Aboveaverage.com, NY Times, NY Post, NYmag.com, Comcast as well as in AT&T and Kit Kat Commercials. He was a semi-finalist in the New York Comedy Festival’s “NY’s Funniest Standup Competition,” and has performed in the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, San Francisco Comedy Festival and a bunch more. Earlier this year he performed my first one man show, “Wine And Questions With Weiss” at The Pit Theater in NYC. FinalIy, he co-produces an awesome comedy show – “Gandhi, is that you?” in the lower east side of Manhattan every Wednesday night. It was part of the NY Comedy Festival and also headlined Carolines on Broadway. It's a good show. Go see it.
In other news, there's a live Malignant Brain Humor episode coming to the PIT on April 24th, we'll be talking about women in comedy. Come out and join in the fun! Tickets are here: http://thepit-nyc.com/event/malignant-brain-humor-women-in-comedy/

In today's episode I talk to Mara Wilson about genetics, forced maturity and the lost of family, feminism, creepy creeps on the internet, love, coping with OCD, Nightvale and growing up under the shadow of Matilda. She's a joy and the whole damn episode is a joy.

Editor's Note: Although we do touch upon Robin Williams, this episode was recorded prior to his passing away, and therefore we do not cover that, because if we did that would be spooky and weird. If you would like to hear an episode that touches on that, check out Episode 72, recorded live at The PIT, with Ted Alexandro, Nick Turner, and Abbi Crutchfield.

Everyone knows how much I hate talking with people who have different beliefs than I do, but I really loved talking with Andrew Heaton even though he is a libertarian, and therefore evil.
Skilled comedian, sharp thinker, talented speaker. Perhaps a bit too tall, but it's forgivable.

Hey folks! This episode went in the can ages ago, but a bunch of time-sensitive releases pushed it back. Thank goodness that the excellent writer Joe Berkowitz is still killing it over at Fast Company, and also in a wide range of other publications including The Atlantic, Mcsweeny's Buzzfeed, GQ and more (and more (and more)).
Clever, insightful, and (most importantly) I like him because (just like me) he was a fat kid.
Check him out at:
@JoeBerkowitz, on Tumblr, and at Fast Company.
And as a taste, here's a recent bit he posted that I particularly enjoyed: EMINEM'S TONGUE-TWISTY, FURIOUS FREESTYLE SOUNDS LIKE BILL COSBY WHEN SLOWED DOWN

Dan Wilbur joins the podcast to discuss his book How Not To Read, the differences between being funny in writing and being funny out loud, Venn Diagrams and the role of esoterica and self-promotion and internet culture on Comedy & more. Excellent episode, excellent fellow.
Buy his book (I own a copy and very much enjoyed it), check him out at DanWilbur.com, on twitter @DanWilbur, on his podcast Two Book Minimum and Thursdays in NY at UCBEast where he hosts Lasers in the Jungle.

Zach Sherwin 3: Epic Rap Battler and excellent MC-about-town Zach Sherwin makes his 3rd appearance to the show. We talk about his varying styles, collaborations with Watsky, and more while I am wildly over caffeinated.
If you'd like to listen to our first two chats, where we talked about the structure of comedy in rap and his shedding of the name MC Mr. Napkins or his appearance on the live show, both are great, and available here and here).
Check out the episode and check out a bunch of Zach's videos (including the song featured in the episode, "stage name,") on the website at: https://mike-blejer.squarespace.com/mbhumor/2014/10/20/76-forms-formats-and-zach-sherwin-3

The multitalented Julie Sharbutt is an excellent and articulate actor, improviser, writer and producer. She and I discuss relationships, friendships, comedy, dramedy, gender politics, the necessary selfishness of artists, ego, inequality and unearned orgasms! We also discuss the excellent movie she wrote and directed, Moved, and so much else! I forgot how much I loved this episode till I went back and listened to it. Wowza!
Watch her movie on November 9th at the Big Apple Film Festival (details at http://movedfilm.com/)
Her TV appearances include a recurring role of "Stacie" on The Good Wife and Person of Interest. Films include The Weekend, Maladies, The Last Day of August, True Story, Admazons and others, and her own feature which she wrote and directed, Moved. Hey folks!
The very hilarious Kevin McCaffrey is on the podcast today, though also in the past by quite a bit. Kevin's a touring comedian who's worked with Tru TV and Letterman, and since appearing on the Podcast Kevin has appeared on Letterman, and in my humble opinion did a fantastic job. Well done Kevin!
In order to speed up the process of getting these podcasts out to you I'm going to take a break from the production elements involved in recording a pre-show introduction and making personalized covers. Instead I'm going to try to get more episodes out on the regs and then release little minisodes in between if I have something I'd like to share or I think you might dig. There may be a little rockiness at the outset while we work things out, but I think ultimately this is going to make for a better body of podcasting.
If you disagree with any of this, I want to hear from you! Drop a line over at http://www.mikecomedy.com/contact. We've also just activated the new MBHumor Call in line at (202) 695-2549. If you'd rather speak than write, call that line and leave a message, and let me know if you're willing to have it be on the podcast and I'll see about making that happen. Technlogy! Questions, thoughts, feelings, and feedback of any sort are welcome.
