Wild Area Global is almost here and we have plenty to unpack and dig into. Hopefully everyone in your community has done plenty of Drilbur in preparation of GMAX Toxtricity, and is managing their Max Particles correctly to balance powering one or two of them up. We will get you prepped and ready to go for Wild Area Global, and will touch on some of the issues that Trainers are facing this week.
Into the wild put Toxel behind 10km eggs but the Community seems pretty chill about it, knowing that Toxtricity is just on the horizon. An issue with the event’s Raid ticket however, has Trainers calling Niantic out for some misleading advertising. With a quiet update to the blog, Niantic has flipped on how bonus Raid passes were to be included with the ticket, causing some unrest in the Community. With their credibility being under a microscope, future events that include bonus Raid passes may require some additional explaining on what exactly is included.
We had a few quality of life updates this week starting with increased Pokémon and item storage, which is always welcomed before a major event. Pair that with a Black Friday PokéCoin sale, and Trainers have some pretty good incentive to spend up before the weekend. The big news of the week however was the addition of Raid Attendance being visible from the Friends List, with the ability to jump directly into a Remote Raid without an invite. (NOTE - Since the time of this recording we have learned that this is a temporary test that is scheduled to end after the Wild Area Global event).
WIth the Max Out Season coming to a close, it is fair to say that this has been one of the most action packed Seasons to date. With new visuals, mechanics, and ways to play the game, it has been moving at a fast pace since its first day. The Max Out finale will keep the pressure on, bringing new Pokémon, but also additional tickets to purchase, which also puts the pressure on Trainer’s wallets.

We are only a few weeks away from the conclusion of the Max Out Season, and with a barrage of events behind us, there is still plenty to look forward to. We begin with a recap of the Harvest Festival, Mankey Community Day, and the amazing Food Drives that were part of the event. We also saw the first Community Ambassador Check-In Timed Research which further incentivizes Trainers to visit or create their own Ambassador led events.
Simply Groundbreaking is up next and Dynamax Drilbur is coming along with it. Even as a One-Star Max Battle, this Pokémon will have a profound impact on the PvE meta as Dynamax Excadrill is the lead counter against the Wild Area’s premier boss, Toxtricity! It should be a priority for all Trainers to play during next week’s Max Monday, to stock up on Drilbur and Candy XL. You will want to go into the Wild Area prepped and ready to go!
The Into the Wild event will be our last before the Wild Area, and will keep us very busy as we await the global event. Meetups have been popping up everywhere, including in Rochester, New Hampshire. Anyone in that area is urged to come out to meet Adam and the Tri-City Pokémon Campfire Group for a day of grinding and even a giveaway for a GO Plus+!
The most interesting news of the week comes from just outside of Albany, NY, where local officials are looking to put an end to organized Pokémon GO events in a public park. Even local news stations have picked up the story, and it could have a profound impact on the local Pokémon GO Community. After receiving so many messages about it, I was able to connect with Spencer, the Community lead and creator of a petition to keep Pokémon GO in Crossings Park. We urge EVERYONE to read up on the story and get involved. Let’s support our fellow Trainers!

The second half of the Halloween Event is behind us and it closed out strong with GMAX Gengar. We discuss how the nerfs impacted the community, and whether or not we think they should stick around. Our experiences with Gengar were expectedly different, however Adam shares some glimmers of hope that he has stumbled on in his area.
Next Season’s Save the Date is here and is packed with events, including our two-day Community Day yearly wrap up. We should all feel confident that additional events are still to be announced, but we would be remiss if we didn’t discuss just how full the calendar has become. It isn’t just events, but limited timed events like Spotlight Hours and Raid Days. The calendar is packed with them, creating a very destination event style gameplay loop.
We dig in to what the packed calendar means for casuals and core Trainers, and how FOMO is bound to make a strong return next Season. We are eager to hear your feedback on how you feel having events happening every weekend, 3 times during the week, and overarching throughout the month. One thing is for certain, there is no shortage of gameplay to experience.
As we prepare for the Wild Area in a few weeks, we still need to get through Mankey Community Day, which will also be doubling as a holiday food drive. The Simply Groundbreaking event introduces DMAX Drilbur, which will be your best counter for Toxtricity. Is the Community ready to go back to focusing on One Star Max Battles? We shall see!

It’s been a big week in Pokémon GO with the release of Gigantamax Pokémon causing quite the stir. The Community sentiment over the mechanic is split, and it seems like community size plays a very important role. We start with a recap and work our way through the news, but the looming GMAX conversation is heard throughout the episode.
November is already here and we have our final month of Max Out in front of us. We will be having a very Raid heavy November as we work towards the Wild Area. With the return of many familiar Legendaries and a packed Raid Hour lineup, we will be very busy. The start of the month brings us GO Battle Weekend into the Harvest Festival. Could this be the calm before the storm?
The big news is the community sentiment over the release of GMAX> With large communities of 30+ having amazing activations, while others, are so down on the mechanic that they don’t even try. We have plenty to say on the topic, including an interesting take from Adam.
We also announce our social experiment, the New Hampshire Rural Community Project. This 6 month initiative is designed to build an organized community of Trainers in rural Rochester, New Hampshire. Stay tuned for details and progress over the next few months!

The Gigantamax Hype Train is arriving at the station and Trainers are ready to get on board. GMAX Raids have simultaneously renewed the spirits of many IRL communities while also drawing the ire of some Trainers online. The game has changed, the map has changed, and the way we interact with other Trainers around us has changed. GMAX is here and we are all for it.
We start with a recap of last week’s gameplay including Magnetic Study, Yamask Research Day, and the kickoff of the Halloween Event. Niantic has been keeping their foot on the throttle all Season and it doesn’t appear it will let up anytime soon. You can even find more to do at Walmarts this week as they are Niantic’s newest sponsor. Gram some PGO exclusive gift cards while you’re there, just in time for the holidays.
The Halloween festivities continue next week with Part 2 of the event landing. Gigantamax Gengar is leading the charge of Pokémon decked out in costumes. We have 2 new costumes this event, and a bunch of past costumes coming back as well. The shiny chase will be pretty strong throughout the event.
Max Mondays will be a new weekly staple event bringing a single Dynamax Pokémon to all Power Spots for an hour. We discuss how being a core PGO Trainer takes significant commitment, with the game asking for more and more of our time.
Ken will be all over NJ battling GMAX Pokémon this weekend in Red Bank on Saturday, and Nutley on Sunday. Check out our Twitter for Campfire links to each of those Ambassador Events!

Niantic is making it harder and harder to talk about topics other than the news! October has been a non-stop barrage of events, updates, and content from Niantic, with Trainers barely having a moment to catch their breath. We run through our gameplay from the last week including GIovanni, Mega Mawile, and the current Magnetic Study. It has been a busy week to say the least.
Yamask Research Day is this weekend and only adds to the back to back nature of events this month. It makes for the perfect primer for Part 1 of the Halloween Event which lands next week. Morepeko is absolutely making things interesting as is the event and its multiple ways to engage with it. Those chasing Morpeko will need to grind some GBL while those not looking to dig in too deep will stick to the Timed Research. We also can’t forget about Spiritomb, who will be in Field Research making for a fun grind.
The big news of the week was the announcement of Gigantamax, and the upcoming events to support it. It looks like we will be seeing the Kanto Starters Gigantamax Forms in November, with a very interesting new way to lobby up. With up to 40 Trainers taking on a Gigantamax Pokémon at the same time, it will be interesting to see how many Communities can fill a lobby and get through the coordination needed to plan a large scale Gigantamax Battle. Let’s also not forget that we are still seeing plenty of Power Spots at home based businesses, which makes you wonder if Gigantamax locations will be curated or random.
An unexpected update hit the news feed of Trainers in the Seattle and Bellevue Washington area, notifying them that the Pokémon Playgrounds AR Experience was available to them at select Gyms and Stops. We look back to 2017 when Niantic first mentioned Playground, which makes it running live in 2024 even more awesome. We dig in to how the Lightship VPS may play an intrical role in Playground, and how it could shape the way we interact with the game at IRL events.

Welcome to another fun loving and good for you episode of the Lured Up Podcast! October has been a workout for sure as Trainers are navigating a sea of events, new mechanics, and social awkwardness! We start things off with a recap of the Galarian Expedition event and prep to take down Giovanni this week. With the Taken Over portion of the event spicing things up on the Rocket department, this week brings unique grinding opportunities as well as support for Pve and PvP though the Pokémon that are available.
Mega Mawile Raid Day is this weekend and we put together a little Raid Guide and Battle Party thanks to help from Pokémon GO Hub and Pokebattler. With Mega Mawile being fairly easy to defeat, it presents the chance to use some fun and unique Pokémon, as we see in each of our Battle Parties. Whether you are free to play or a paid player, Raid Day always delivers a ton of great gameplay and in person fun for Communities.
We will see a few days of vanilla spawns before the Magnetic Study Event goes live. THis event has rotating bonuses and TImed Research, allowing for Trainers to find a time to play that works best for their style and needs. Or, if you are like us, a nice varied gameplay experience that can be enjoyed over the entire arc of the short event. Make sure to earn some Magnetic Lures from Showcases to help out your Community!
Details for Part 1 of the Halloween Event have been detailed and it looks like a banger! With a little bit of everything, we will see new Pokémon, new PvP mechanics, and a new Dynamax Boss all in the same week. We still have some time before the event goes live, so we will revisit it in more detail next week!
FInally we wrap up with a conversation driven by a JRESeawolf Tweet that highlights the tendency for some Battlers online to take an ill-informed stance about Niantic as a developer and how that impacts different systems of the game. While we have fun and make some gross generalizations, it doesn’t take much time on Twitter to realize that it can sometimes feel like Battlers vs the world. Check out our thoughts and share your own to keep the conversation going!

While we are used to Niantic’s insane event pacing, it is always a good thing when there is excitement from week to week. The events lately have been bringing a lot of value to Trainers by offering a variety of things to do. Raid hours have been drawing good crowds for weeks and the events have been motivating people to get outside.
The Wild Area has been detailed and this looks to be a new staple ingredient in Niantic’s IRL event roster. With the theme of focusing on specific Pokémon types, if opens the door for recurring events with rotating types. A two day global event also makes this exciting for Trainers that don’t plan on attending the in person event. Plenty to do, new Pokémon, new Shinies, new excitement.
Zamazenta is replacing its partner Zacian in 5 Star Raids this week. Paired with Falinks Max Battles, there are plenty of reasons to get outside with a group to play. With the difficulty that Falinks is bringing, some Trainers are surprised and turned off. It opens up a discussion of how this game calls for in person group play as an integral part of a successful experience.
Giovanni is also heading back, this time with Shadow Heatran. The ability to TM away Frustration comes at a good time as things are still being shaken out from the PvE updates. Paired with the next PokéCoin Bounty and Mega Mawile Raid Day, this October is shaping up to be packed, and we don’t even know what the Halloween Event will bring us!

We have plenty to discuss this week as the hits just keep on coming. Niantic is keeping their foot on the gas pedal with Max Out, as new events, Pokémon and Shinies are inbound to the game this month.
We begin with a recap of our last week of gameplay including the Psychic Spectacular and Dynamax Beldum Raids. We loved seeing a fleshed out and diverse event that provides a bit of gameplay for many different disciplines of Trainers. The focus this week however is on DMax Beldum, which while not too tough a boss in the end, definitely took a lot of Trainers by surprise in their first few battles. This makes DMax even more promising as a vessel to release new and exciting content to the game.
Oranguru and Passimian Research Day delivered as expected with simple tasks and plenty of Shinies. Having events like this that support free to play players and the most hardcore at the same time is no simple feat. In the end, these types of events just work out well for everyone that plays them. We also have news of the Galar Starters coming as Max Battles along with Falinx, which will keep that DMax Train chugging along.
Plenty of miscellaneous news this week including Sewaddle Community Day, new TCG inspired Stickers, Campfire on browser, and sharing items in Party Play. This season is absolutely jammed with content and October looks to keep it going.
Baltimore Regionals were this last weekend and many notable Battlers have spoken up about the state of PvP negatively impacting the event. When Niantic makes a known issue as resolved, yet it rears its head on the world stage, it is never a good look. We hope that in the end all of the battles played were decided fairly.
Between Legendary Heroes and Galarian Expedition, we have Zacian and Zamazenta returning, but this time with their Shiny forms. We have a strong feeling that Raids will be popping off for the next two weeks. Get at it, Trainers!

Lane from Good Morning Johto joins us again as Adam wraps up his move!
Dynamax Battles are here and the game has officially changed! Now that we have had some time to experience the Max Out Season, Niantic is really shaking things up. We will recap our experiences with GO All Out and our super early feedback on the GO Big event.
Falinks Raid Day gave us some fun free to play and high value paid gameplay. September is absolutely packed with events and there is something to do every single weekend! Our Communities experienced Falinks very different from eachother, which shows that not every event needs to be for everyone.
Power Spots have absolutely caused a stir in the Wayfarer Community as Wayfinders react to having their finely curated gameboard covered in POI that seem to break every rule in the Wayfarer rulebook. It poses many questions like where did Power Spots come from, did they have any vetting at all, and should they follow Wayfarer criteria? The Wayfinders are charged up and with very good reason.
The Psychic Spectacular is back and will be the first, post DMax launch event to release a new DMax Pokemon. Putting aside the logistics of Power Spots, Beldum will surely be a VERY popular Pokémon to grind in Max Battles.
We wrap up with a discussion about the ongoing balancing changes to PvE. With video showing Kyogre spamming Thunder 7 times in a row, things are getting a bit wild in Raids. We will need to see how things shake out over time, because people are already feeling the resource squeeze when they need to revive 3 lobbies worth of Pokémon per Raid!

September brings an absolute boatload of new information and game mechanics as we usher in the Max Out Season. Even being a few days into the Season, plus a bunch of event blog posts, many Trainers are still scratching their heads to try and understand how everything works. With Max Battles coming very soon, we have a limited amount of time to figure out and speculate on how things will shake out. What we do know, is that a new way to play Pokémon GO is here, and we will all need to adjust and adapt.
Getting back to the news, Niantic announced a new IRL event called the Wild Area that will be coming to Japan. Corresponding to the gameplay of Sword and Shield, it is the perfect time and name for a new IRL event. Time will tell if this event will slide into the annual rotation like GO Fest and GO Tour. Interestingly enough, we also have Safari Zones and City Safari events returning, which means that Trainers all around the world will have opportunities to play in large scale IRL events.
The September Content Update brings a blend of old and new, as we see the return of Zacian, but this time with its Shiny Form available. Dynamax Pokémon will dominate the month and perhaps the Season, with Spotlights and Raid Hours rounding out the usual weekly gameplay loops.
Even with the Dynamax Mechanic being introduced, September is packed with events like Ponyta Community Day and Falinks Raid Day. Even if Trainers are hesitant to engage with the new Dynamax Mechanic, they can always fall back on some old and faithful events.

We want to start off with a HUGE thank you to everyone that tuned in for our Pokémon GO Worlds costream! Thousands of you were able to get your Costumed Pikachu and we were so excited to meet so many new Trainers. Thank you again for EVERYTHING!
To start we break down our experience with the Worlds Events and Twitch Drop Timed Research, which kept many Trainers busy all week. It was a ton of fun to watch Worlds and interact with it through Twitch and PGO gameplay. This was a huge win all around in terms of experience and immersion.
Beldum Community Day Classic was a fan favorite and brought plenty of Trainers outside. With Trainers prepping for Mega Metagross, incredible PvP and PVE gameplay, as well as the incoming Dynamax update, Metagross will be a MAJOR player on many teams.
Triumph Together is the new event this week and we see a bunch of GLobal Team Challenges which will let us know how hardcore or casual our friends list is. With various challenges rotating through each team’s theme, this is looking to be a great event with some unique gameplay.
The big news of the week is the Morpeko mechanic update and the teasing of Dynamax Pokémon. With Shared Skies coming to a close, we are all confident that next season will be all about Dynamazing and Galar, which is something we have been waiting on! It will be interesting to see how the Dynamax mechanic rolls out, but at this point all we can do is engage in some good ol’fashioned inappropriate speculation.

With Adventure Week finally coming to a close, many in the Community can take a fresh breath of vanilla spawns and move on from a super long event! We discuss how the length of Adventure Week may have overstayed its welcome! That being said, there was definitely some ups and downs in the event, with Shadow Lugia Raids being broken in the earliest timezones, resulting in a Shadow Lugia that couldn’t be defeated. Poor, poor, New Zealand.
The Worlds Event is up next and there is a ton to do, both in game an out. Trainers can earn up to 3 Timed Researches by watching Twitch Streams of the event over the weekend. We break it all down and let you know how to get the most out of the event, while supporting the stream and co-streamers at the same time! You will also be shocked to hear that Adam actually likes Scuba Pikachu!
Beldum Community Day is this weekend and you should play. Enough said.
For the Raiders this week we put together a little Raid Guide and Battle Party for Mega Kangaskhan. This is an important Raid Boss not only because it is a cool Mega, but because it is a regional! You will not want to miss out on this one as it only comes around every so often! You only need one other Trainer (with leveled counters) to take it out, so use up those Daily free passes!
Finally we revisit Wayfarer Abuse, and how there has been a string of new screenshots showing absolutely out of control POI clusters. We discuss how this happens and how damaging it is to the map and gameboard. The Community feedback was mixed, with some thinking the clusters are a wonderland, while others think it just isn’t fun at all. Let’s keep the conversation going on Twitter this week!

If battling Team GO Rocket is your thing then you have been lucky all week. With Adventure Week being Taken Over by Team GO Rocket, this week was packed with new Shadows and the chase for Giovanni and his Shadow Cresselia. The big news of the week however, warns you not to do too many Team GO Rocket encounters as it could get you banned. We dive in headfirst and talk about how this ban is not too difficult to trigger if you are spending a day grinding the event.
Mega Rayquaza came back in non-Elite Raids and it ended up being a successful day of gaming for many. With a Raid Hour format and Elite Raid style scheduling, it turned out to be an all new type of Raid Event. Time will tell if this will become the new normal, but it definitely felt great to have some scheduled and dedicated Raid windows.
Beldum Community Day Classic has been announced and this Pokémon will absolutely bring Trainers out to play. With Mega Metagross on the horizon, plus excellent use in PvP and PvE, this is a chance for different disciplines of Trainers to come together for a Community Day experience.
We wrap up with a conversation about some typos in Niantic Tweets, which when corrected, become easy bait for the Twitter mob to gobble up. Over the last few weeks we have seen a ton of activity come from from Niantic Support, retracting and clarifying many bits of communication along with explaining gameplay issues. Sometimes, it would be better to NOT hear from Niantic.

With Mega Lucario Raid Day behind us, the Ultra Unlocks and GO Fest Season is officially behind us. We had an exceptionally busy June and July leading up to the big events, but now August looks to be a time that we can all breathe and chill out a bit. We start off the episode sharing our experiences with both Strength of Steel and Mega Lucario, as our luck was drastically different from one another.
We discussed last week how Adventure Week looked kind of weak, but that was before we had the announcement for the Team GO Rocket takeover that was coming along for the ride. Shadow Cresselia makes its debut and Shadow Lugia returns along with a slew of new Shadow Pokémon and the ability to TM away Frustration. Between Lucario and a ton of Shadows, both Battlers and Raiders will have plenty to work through.
The big news of the week however is Niantic flipping on how they are handling the Mega Rayquaza make good event. With an announcement that no Trainer saw coming, Niantic has dropped the Elite Raid format and have moved to a Raid Hour format, allowing up to 20 remote Raids on the day. PLENTY to unpack here, so strap in and get good!

August content may have been announced to minimal fanfare, but July is closing out strong with the remaining Ultra Unlock events! Strength of Steel has us chasing down Togedamaru as we prep to Raid our fannies off for Mega Lucario. August looks to be the calm after the storm as we see a lot of repeat Pokémon returning to raids and an Adventure Week that seems a bit lighter than usual.
Safari Zones have been announced in Indonesia and South Korea, which makes us all want to be world travelers to take part. With both a City Safari and a Safari Zone being announced, it will be interesting to see how the Safari branded events return to the states. With Philadelphia being such an incredible memory, we can only hope that we see another US city get the Safari treatment soon.
As we work through August we see that Popplio Community Day and Adventure Week have been detailed so far, however it appears that August may be the time to take a breather and back off the grind a bit. Time will tell to see if the month ends up performing better IRL than it does on paper.
FInally we peak into some issues that the game is been having by jumping over to the Niantic Support Twitter account. When digging a bit further we see that the Known Issues page is no more, and the Twitter account becoming more active. Could this be the new normal? While a very outdated GBL Known Issues page still exists, 2023 World Champ AXN filmed a very pointed video, asking for Niantic to work on GBL ahead of Worlds next month. While we thought things had improved, AXN shared a Tweek during our livestream that tells a different story.

GO Fest Season is officially a wrap and the Ultra Unlocks are the big payoff. We start by recapping our GO Fest: Global experiences and how coming right out of NYC has been a bit much on our bodies and wallets. Those that were at GO Fest: NYC the previous week are most likely still sunburned and sore. Our eyes however must stay looking forward as there is another full slate of content coming to Pokémon GO.
The stage is set for the 3 Ultra Unlocks, and they couldn’t be more diverse. The first unlock brings us a new Pokémon line, the second unlock brings us a new Shiny, and the third unlock brings us a new Mega. Let the hype train begin!
Mega Rayquaza’s make good event has been scheduled and it comes with minimal fanfare. The reaction to the event is mixed, with online communities still pushing for the removal of the mechanic altogether, while IRL communities are already planning their next meetup.

This is a very special episode of the Lured Up Podcast! Recorded at our Community’s Air BnB in Harlem, NY, we were surrounded by some of our closest friends. It is incredible that this game has created a network of friends that we will carry for the rest of our lives! Huge shout out to our entire Community, especially those that made it to NYC.
We share our hot takes on the event and speculate on the future. Saying that we were exhausted was an understatement!

Another news bomb went off this week as Trainers prep for GO Fest: NYC. We have our July Content Update as well as a few events worth of details to run through, which means this episode is rapid fire with news and updates. We begin with a recap of Scorching Steps and how no matter how you shake it, egg events are not something that many Trainers look forward to. Even with Shiny Larvesta hatching out of 2, 5, and 10km eggs, the sparkles were dry for many.
Our July Content Update is heavily weighted on GO Fest happenings, including GO Fest: Global and a three part Ultra Unlock. We run through everything we know so far this month on other events, including Aquatic Paradise and the return of Ultra Beasts. Niantic is keeping their foot on the gas without letting up for GO Fest, as we have a ton of events happening before and after NYC. Not sure we want a break in the action, but if we did, Niantic isn’t giving it to us.
Niantic is partnering with Play! Pokémon to launch in person PVP at local game stores. Starting July 1st, we will be able to see events on the Campfire map, continuing with the hopes of bridging the gap between Play! Pokémon and Niantic. Here’s to hoping that local game stores embrace PGO and promote events along with the TCG and other non-Pokémon franchises.
Finally we talk GO Fest and our New York State of Grind 2 happening on Saturday afternoon. We will be at the Notable Trainer Meet & Greet each day from 10am-12pm, and hope you can join us at 1pm on Saturday as we trek from Randall’s Island to Nintendo NYC! Only the strong will make it to the end! Do you have what it takes?

June is definitely not the calm before the GO Fest storm as we have had non stop events like Spelunker’s Cove and Scorching Steps. We take a look at what makes these events tick and how we can tell the difference between a filler event and an event that actually has substance. The 8th Anniversary Event looks to be a much needed step in the right direction, bringing a comprehensive lineup of bonuses and features. One thing that has been missing from our game screens lately, is new Pokémon in the wild.
Mega Rayquaza is coming back at the end of the month and the Community is still salty about Elite Raids. While the majority on social are clambering against the Elite Raid decision, in-person communities are already planning to have an amazing day of Raiding with their Communities. The differences between actual IRL Communities and those that virtue signal for them on Twitter is more clear than ever. While Elite Raids are far from being universally loved, it still asks the question of how do you make this game difficult and how can you keep things exclusive?
Michael Steranka sat with Tom Phillips of Eurogamer and discussed some of the most relevant topics in the Community zeitgeist. While it was refreshing to hear questions being asked that matter to the Community, Steranka did often play the PR card and didn’t divulge much, leading to an overall feeling of, “We are working on it”, as a response to every question that was asked. Niantic has asked us to have faith in the process before, but this time the Community is more demanding than ever.
Finally we wrap things up with a Raid Guide and Battle Party for Mega Rayquaza! Ice is all you need to worry about here and it will make sense to support that with a Mega of your own. We look to both GO Hub and Pokébattler for tips on what to bring.
