Dr. Harun Spevack, a project leader and editor at The American Society of Islamic Philosophy (ASIPT), and chaplain at Brandeis University joins Mahamed Mohamud, student at Brandeis University, in a discussion exploring Islamic philosophy and theology. What is the difference between philosophy and theology? How do our Islamic beliefs fit into these disciplines? As philosophy is interpreted differently in the context of the Muslim world, certain concepts of Islamic philosophy can be seen as controversial and even heretical. Whereas theology offers a more narrow and focused understanding of Islam. However, the two disciplines share a bit in common as they answer– or attempt to answer questions a Muslim may have about the world around them.
