This week on the live to walk again podcast we had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren Harmison who is a Nurse Practitioner, SCI advocate, Mother, Wife, and the Founder and CEO of Possability Unlimited; a nonprofit providing respite support, biannual retreats, and education for individuals with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers. We chatted with Lauren about how she chose to focus on the spinal cord injury aspect of nursing, where the idea for Possability Unlimited came from, and the amazing retreats that they put on for people dealing with SCI. We also spoke about her spinoff company Paralysis Support which provides tutorial videos for caregiver training with actual people dealing with paralysis in the videos instead of mannequins or dummies, the Journal article she wrote about Autonomic Dysreflexia, and its impact on people living with high level spinal cord injuries. This week on the Live to Walk Again Podcast we had the pleasure of visiting with Maggie Deery who is a Disability Advocate, a Digital Creator, and a Spinal Cord Injury Survivor. We spoke with Maggie about the car accident in 2012 that left her paralyzed and suffering from a brain injury, the 2015 car accident where she suffered a second SCI and brain injury, and the aftermath of both accidents. We chatted about the adaptive sports she's tried from snow skiing to hand cycling, some of the travel adventures she's been on since her injury, and getting to attend the Falcons/Patriots Super Bowl in 2017. This week on the live to walk again podcast we had the pleasure of speaking with Maurice Andre ( @SCImotivation ) who is a Spinal Cord Injury Survivor, Adaptive Athlete, Disability Advocate, and Hyrox Inspirational Athlete of the Year 2024. We spoke to Maurice about the paragliding accident that left him paralyzed, deciding to get his own rehabilitation equipment to rehab every day for the first 2 years after his accident, and pushing yourself further than you think you can go. We also discussed the point when he could finally walk with adaptive equipment, turning that into doing races, and eventually turning that into competing in Hyrox Competitions. I got to chat with Zack about the diving accidents that caused his spinal cord injury, having the opportunity to go through the rehab process at Craig Hospital in Colorado, and the incredible amount of recovery he's had since his injury. This week we had the pleasure of having friend of the podcast Brock Mealer back on the podcast for a second time! Brock is a Keynote Speaker, Spinal Cord Injury Survivor, and Author of the brand-new book; Beyond 1%: Unleashing Your Potential Against All Odds. We chatted about the motivation behind writing this book and the difficulties tapping back into the emotions of the car accident that changed his life forever, how the book is more than just a story but also a template to help the reader set and achieve goals, and having his family members add stories and memories from their perspectives and weaving those into the book. This week on Episode 200 of the Live to Walk Again Podcast we were lucky enough to visit with quadriplegic makeup artist, former Rollettes dancer, model, disability advocate, and all around amazing human being, Steph Aiello. We spoke about the car accident and following events that contributed to her spinal cord injury, how she was able to adapt and figure out how to do her makeup again in rehab after her accident, and the amazing determination she had to still pursue a career as a makeup artist regardless of her disability. We also discussed becoming the first and only (at the time) quadriplegic member of the Rollettes Dance Team, and becoming the first disabled model for Ulta Beauty.
