  • Hey there! Before we dive into today's podcast, let me give you a sneak peek into my chaotic life as a mom wrangling kids for dinner and soccer practice. But hey, this won't be a long episode. I'm thrilled to share that come January, I'm launching a new course, and if you're on the email list, you'll be the first to know, with some exclusive offers coming your way. Today, I'm delving into a topic close to my heart—relationships. I've been thinking about two major hurdles we often face: firstly, not seeing people from the heart, reacting instead of understanding; and secondly, the reluctance to self-reflect when things go awry. Drawing from a recent experience with my son and his teacher, I emphasize the importance of both parties owning up to their roles. So, here's the deal: practice pausing when triggered, understand your own stories, communicate openly, and embrace self-reflection. If you haven't joined the "Resentment Trap '' course, you're missing out—link's in the show notes with a special discount. Lastly, a personal note, Peter and I are sharing a profound story on my new YouTube channel—check it out, share, and tag me. Your support means the world. Love you all and catch you on the next episode!

“We make the unconscious conscious, we speak to the thing that is happening. That's always the starting point is to speak to the thing that is happening.” – Joy Harrington

Reflecting on two common challenges: not understanding people from the heart and avoiding self-reflection.

Speak to your feelings and trigger stories to diminish their power and make the unconscious conscious.

Encouraging a pause when triggered, emphasizing the need to understand personal stories and open communication for healthier relationships.

Don't miss the new YouTube channel; the link's in the show notes. Watch, share, and tag—it's a heartfelt story worth sharing.

Drawing from recent coaching experiences and personal reflections, I explore the common thread of women feeling overwhelmed by the belief that everything is solely their responsibility. I delve into the root causes, pinpointing childhood influences and the impact of societal expectations, particularly the pitfalls of control and perfectionism. Sharing a poignant personal story about a pivotal moment in my own marriage, I stress the significance of letting go and trusting one's partner. Throughout the episode, I introduce the "Resentment Trap" program, designed to identify and replace harmful relationship patterns. • In this episode, I, Joy Harrington, find myself driving to an appointment, lost in thought about that inner narrative we all grapple with – that voice telling us we're messing things up, that we're not good enough, that we've made a mistake. I've realized that this critical voice often emerges when I take a chance on something new, something I truly want, and that's a sign I need to confront deep-seated beliefs holding me back. It's an uncomfortable battle within, where I've learned that retreating or backtracking only keeps me in the same old loop. The key, I've discovered, is to lean into the discomfort, ask challenging questions, and shift those limiting beliefs. Even though it might make you feel like a bit of a hypocrite at times, you don't need to lean in 100% of the time, just 51%. It's about embracing the discomfort, changing your internal narratives, and ultimately reshaping your reality. So, don't give up, and remember, the discomfort is a sign of growth.

“Lean into the discomfort of doubt, and be willing to be uncomfortable. It takes a lot and it takes a lot of discomfort to change things, to create a new belief, a new way of being, a new reality."

I share my personal struggle with self-doubt and how it surfaces when we embark on new ventures.

Emphasizing the importance of leaning into discomfort, I encourage listeners to embrace fear and doubt as part of their personal growth journey.

Self-reflection and questioning existing beliefs are key to transforming our lives and shifting our narratives.

The ongoing battle with self-doubt is discussed, with an emphasis on persisting through discomfort for lasting change.

  • In this episode, I delve into the crucial topic of asking for what you need in your marriage. I begin by sharing a personal story of someone seeking advice on feeling unheard and unfulfilled in their relationship. It's a common struggle, and I stress the importance of open communication to avoid resentment and unhappiness. I highlight the link between self-alignment and personal responsibility, underlining that we have the power to change our circumstances by being true to our desires. Making wise decisions, facing fears, and taking control of our lives are key themes discussed. I also introduce my course, "The Resentment Trap," as a resource for recognizing patterns and living in alignment with our true selves. Join me on this journey towards self-empowerment and personal growth!

  • In this episode, I dive into what I've discovered as the primary cause of divorce in today's marriages – resentment. I explain how resentment accumulates as stored negative emotions within our bodies over time, often stemming from unaddressed issues or suppressed feelings. As a result, it can lead to communication breakdown, unresolved conflicts, emotional disconnection, and a lack of forgiveness. These factors impact intimacy, trust, and equality within relationships. I offer five actionable steps to tackle resentment head-on, including identifying, owning, and processing it both physically and emotionally. Additionally, I introduce "The Resentment Trap," a course I've developed to help individuals address and release their deep-seated resentment. Join me in this episode if you're looking to transform your relationship dynamics and build a more profound emotional connection.

  • In this episode, I'm excited to share a transformative seven-step forgiveness process that has had a profound impact on my life and relationships. I learned this powerful method from my coach, who inherited it from her coach, and it's been a game-changer. This process helps you release resentment by addressing the stories and lenses that shape your perceptions. I'll guide you through each step, from listing your complaints as personal stories to identifying the lenses through which you view them. We'll explore empathy, the recognition of unspoken agreements, and the importance of focusing on facts over opinions. By recognizing my own behavior and expressing gratitude for others, I've experienced the liberating power of forgiveness. My challenge to you: consider using this process to heal and enhance your relationships.

“Resentment is always about us. It's showing us what we believe, what we want, what we have an expectation around, what we want a boundary around. That's nobody else's fault but our own, nobody else's responsibility but our own."

Discover the 7-step forgiveness process that transformed my life and relationships.

Uncover the stories and lenses that fuel resentment.

From listing complaints to finding empathy - these steps will change your perspective.

Break free from hidden expectations and focus on the facts, not opinions.

Recognize your own behavior patterns and find gratitude in others.

Furthermore, I explore the challenge of letting my inner child be seen without defensive reactions and the transformative impact of unconditional love and acceptance in a relationship. My personal journey and recommended resources offer valuable guidance for building a resilient partnership.

“You have to learn how to process it out of your physical body, because we think just acknowledging it or talking about it will do the trick. But that's not true, because the emotion is felt it's not thought it's felt”

  • In this episode, I delve into the significance of being the director of my own life rather than

constantly outsourcing vital decisions. I illustrate this idea with relatable examples, like my visits

to the nail salon, where I often grapple with whether to speak up or accept results I don't like.

I discuss the adverse effects of continuous outsourcing, such as feeling lost and building up

resentment. I stress the value of having a clear vision for different aspects of my life and making

swift decisions while trusting my instincts. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of striking a

balance between seeking support and maintaining my role as the director. I invite you to reflect

on where you might be outsourcing in your life and consider regaining control of your own

    destiny.

“Being the director means setting boundaries, knowing what you stand for, establishing

boundaries that protect your energy, your happiness, your results, it’s saying no a lot more

than saying yes, that’s all part of boundary setting.”

  • In today’s episode, I'm finally back in my bedroom after a short stint in Scottsdale, gearing up for more summer travels. I've been reveling in the joy of routine while also recognizing the beauty of breaking away from it. Today, let's dive into a topic that's been on my mind – forging deeper connections with our kids as they grow. The parent-child dynamic evolves beyond just being caregivers, and I've got five powerful questions to help us navigate this journey. First up, ever wondered what your child truly wants to do with you? Let's explore that. Then, there's the question of understanding – what do they wish we knew about them? Delving into dislikes might not be easy, but it opens doors for improvement. And, how about asking them for alternatives – what could we do differently? Lastly, what can we do to enhance our relationship? Remember, these conversations evolve as they age, so let's adapt. Just like marriages, our bond with our children requires ongoing effort and intentional communication. Stay tuned for more insights, and if you're curious about my latest fashion find, hop over to my Instagram. Thanks for being here!

“Something that I've always given my kids is age-appropriate truth. I did not lie to them. I do not tell them something is not true if they asked me outright, but I do make sure it's age appropriate in how I convey that truth to them.”

  • In this episode, I share recent experiences, from a gym mishap where I fractured my elbow during a warm-up exercise to enjoying summer travels with family in Colorado. As the one-year anniversary of my son Sterling's passing approaches, I'm contemplating how to celebrate his life authentically and find joy amidst grief. Uncertain about my online presence, I've decided to take a step back from social media and prioritize my role as a supportive wife and mother while my husband's business grows. Embracing this new direction, I'm excited for the future and open to creative paths while cherishing cherished memories and family moments.

“I'm not that person anymore. There are parts of me that are still the same for sure. And I still definitely have beliefs that are the same. But I'm not the person that's wanting to show up talking about the same thing.”

  • In this episode, I will explore unique ways to reignite the spark in your marriage. Instead of conventional advice, I focus on challenging negative stories we tell ourselves about our relationship and replacing them with positive narratives. I will also discuss the impact of our surroundings and the people we surround ourselves with, as well as the importance of the music we listen to. Visualization plays a key role, helping us create a mental movie of our ideal marriage. Additionally, I emphasize the power of gratitude and praise, training our minds to focus on the positives in our partners. Join me in lighting up our marriages and sharing this episode with friends who seek to do the same!

“When we have a story, when we have something going on inside of us, we're like, I just don't feel this way or whatever. We put on a lens that blocks us from seeing anything else. So it's not that the other stuff isn't there. It's just that you're not seeing it.”

  • In this deeply personal episode, I will share the heartbreaking journey of my son Sterling's life and passing. From a perfect pregnancy to the shock of his sudden death, I recount the red flags and concerns that were overlooked. It was later discovered that Sterling contracted Group B strep, leading to pneumonia and sepsis. Through my story, I aim to raise awareness about this condition and encourage expectant mothers to trust their instincts and advocate for their health. I express gratitude for the support received and emphasize the importance of compassionate support for those grieving. Despite the pain, I hold onto the belief that Sterling's story is not over and that his memory can make a difference in preventing such tragic losses. Let's come together to promote Group B strep awareness and protect our little ones from preventable harm.

“I hope more than anything, that this just helps people to have awareness so that they can prevent this from happening, because it doesn't need to happen. And so I just want to leave you with that.”

While every relationship is unique, I hope our story offers guidance, reassurance, and inspiration to those navigating their own relationship struggles.
