Gohl was not who he appeared to be. Manipulative, self-absorbed, and cunning, he had plans to steal the money, delivering sailors, or slaves, to the captains of the ships, earning kickbacks and claiming what he thought was rightfully his. And if a few men died in the process? Well so be it. They’d probably be better off.

Sailors trusted him. Employees relied on him. He claimed to keep their money, and their lives safe. That was a mistake. Those that put their faith in Billy Gohl would find themselves prisoners on ships heading toward China, or worse, SINKING to the bottom of Grays Harbor near Aberdeen, Washington.
