This week has been tough, especially after the election results. There are a lot of people who are worried, stressed, and sad about the future.
But one thing you can be sure of is that this podcast is a safe space. Sam and Morgan have always read diverse books by diverse authors and have no plans to stop.
Regardless of your race, religion, or sexual orientation, you are welcome here. We want to create a community where everyone feels safe and accepted. This podcast is a place where everyone can have their voices heard. We believe that everyone should be allowed to share their stories and experiences. We strive to make this podcast an inclusive and welcoming space for all.
Spend some time taking care of yourself this week, whether it's walking, reading a book, or napping. It's important to remember that elections come and go, but the only thing that lasts is hope. We need to keep fighting for what we believe in even if it seems impossible to do so. We must remain hopeful that the future will be brighter.
"Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars." -Kamala Harris
So this week we decided to read something fluffy and romantic, and that book was It's Not Me, It's You by Alex Light!About The Novel:
Jackie Myers is a fraud. Or she might be a genius—the jury’s still out.The thing is, she secretly runs pleasebreakmyheart, a gone-viral account aimed at breaking hearts and ending relationships…. And she just used it to break up her insufferable eternal nemesis's picture-perfect relationship.Wilson is the buttoned-up, type-A assistant manager of her nightmares—but it turns out he’s also, apparently, a great boyfriend. So with her conscience (and paycheck) on the line, Jackie decides there’s only one thing to do: She’s going to help Wilson win his ex-girlfriend back. Which should be easy, considering Jackie hates him…right?

And they love each other. Don’t they?Only Amy can’t read Flynn’s mind and Flynn can’t read Amy’s. When lightning strikes, Flynn and Amy are thrown to the ground, and when they stand back up they realize—they’ve switched bodies.Forced to attend the glamorous wedding weekend as each other is surely an impossible task. Summary:
A student will find that the hardest lessons sometimes come outside the classroom in this stunning dark academia novel from the acclaimed author of The Year of the Witching and House of Hunger.Lennon Carter’s life is falling apart. Then she gets a mysterious phone call inviting her to take the entrance exam for Drayton College, a school of magic hidden in a secret pocket of Savannah. Lennon has been chosen because—like everyone else at the school—she has the innate gift of persuasion, the ability to wield her will like a weapon, using it to control others and, in rare cases, matter itself. After passing the test, Lennon begins to learn how to master her devastating and unsettling power. But despite persuasion’s heavy toll on her body and mind, she is wholly captivated by her studies, by Drayton’s lush, moss-draped campus, and by her brilliant classmates. But even more captivating is her charismatic adviser, Dante, who both intimidates and enthralls her.As Lennon continues in her studies her control grows, and she starts to uncover more about the secret world she has entered into, including the disquieting history of Drayton College, and the way her mentor’s tragic and violent past intertwines with it. She is increasingly disturbed by what she learns. For it seems that the ultimate test is to embrace absolute power without succumbing to corruption . . . and it's a test she's terrified she is going to fail.

Today, we are discussing a book from one of our favorite writers, Abigal Owens. The book we are talking about is The Game God Plays, the first book in the crucible series. We are also talking about the newest tiktok trend with deatheaters and how Morgan was catfished.
About The Novel:
The gods love to toy with us mere mortals. And every hundred years, we let them…I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus.Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus’ patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god.The worst god. Hades. For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus. But instead of fighting their own battles, the gods name mortals to compete in their stead. So why in the Underworld did Hades choose me—a sarcastic nobody with a curse on her shoulders—as his champion? And why does my heart trip every time he says I’m his?I don’t know if I’m a pawn, bait, or something else entirely to this dangerously tempting god. How can I, when he has more secrets than stars in the sky?Because Hades is playing by his own rules…and Death will win at any cost. Check Out Our Socials here!

Today we discussed a coming-of-age novel called The Sticky Note Manifesto of Aisha Agarwal by Ambika Vohra. This novel, was something that reminded us of our teenage years and also the awkward times that came with being a teenager. We really hope you enjoy this episode!About The Novel:
Aisha who is having a hard time figuring out how to answer the Standford essay question, “how have you gotten out of your comfort zone?”
The thing is Aisha hasn’t, she hasn’t gone to any parties or even had her first kiss. But when her long-time crush, Brian asks her to dance. She thinks that her fate is changing. That is until Brian stands her up. As if on cue, a banged-up car pulls up to the dance, and a guy her age apologizes for being late to pick her up. Aisha doesn’t know what he is talking about but is sick of not taking chances so she gets into this stranger's car. To Aisha’s relief, seventeen-year-old Quentin isn’t a kidnapper but failing math. So they strike a deal if Aisha helps Quentin pass math, he will help push her out of her comfort zone. Except what happens when Aisha’s sticky note manifesto is taken off, but she falls for the wrong guy, hurts her best friend, and still can’t finish her essay. Victory feels far from reach. Is winning worth it if you loose yourself in the processCheck Out The Rest Of Our Socials Here!

Welcome Back, today we discuss all things book-related from the drama that happened in the movie It Ends With Us, to the new update from St.Martin Press. Oh, and we also talk about the book The Dollmakers! Which by the way is it too late to say that dolls are scary?
About The Novel:
In the country called One, dollmakers are vital members of the community. An artisan’s doll is the height of society’s accomplishments, while a guard’s doll is the only thing standing between the people of One and the vicious, cobbled monstrosities that will tear apart any structure—living or dead, inanimate or otherwise—to add to their horde.Apprentice Shean of Pearl is a brilliant dollmaker. With her clever dolls, she intends to outsmart and destroy the Shod, once and for all—a destiny she’s worked her whole life toward accomplishing. But when the time comes for her dolls to be licensed, she’s told her work is too beautiful and delicate to fight. A statement that wounds and infuriates her; the Shod killed everyone she loved. How could her fate be anything but fighting them?In an attempt to help her see a new path for herself, Shean’s mentor sends her on a journey to the remote village called Web, urging her to glean some wisdom from Ikiisa, a reclusive and well-respected guard dollmaker. But Shean has another if she can convince the village of Web of her talents, the Licensor Guild will have to reconsider and grant her a guard’s license. And what better way to convince them than challenging Ikiisa and instating herself as the official dollmaker of Web? Once she’s done that, proving her dolls’ worth in the fight against the Shod will be simple. As simple, that is, as calling the Shod to Web...Check out our socials here!

Today, Sam and Morgan discuss the complex relationships of being in a "perfect family" while trying to figure out a murder in the future. If that sounds interesting, then you are going to love the novel that we are going to be talking about today, which is called Death At Morning House by Maureen Johnson!About The Novel:The fire wasn’t Marlowe Wexler’s fault. Dates should be hot, but not hot enough to warrant literal firefighters. Akilah, the girl Marlowe has been in love with for years, will never go out with her again. No one dates an accidental arsonist. With her house-sitting career up in flames, it seems the universe owes Marlowe a new summer job, and that’s how she ends up at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s and abandoned shortly thereafter. It’s easy enough, giving tours. Low risk of fire. High chance of getting bored talking about stained glass and nut cutlets and Prohibition.Oh, and the deaths. Did anyone mention the deaths?

Summary:
The New York Times bestselling author of All the Stars and Teeth brings to life a highly romantic, Gothic-infused world of wealth, desire, and betrayal. Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each one more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation, and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer. However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.
