  • I really loved this convo with Dan Telfer - comedian, dungeon master, writer, and all around decent human freaking being - and we get right into some juicy relationship chat right off the top, and he gives out three great book recs if you're lookin to up your ability to human. Dan explains to me the lazy joys of somatic exercises, we talk about the world of polyamory, and dig into generational trauma - oh, joy!

Dan is truly a delight to to chat with, and if you're looking for a dungeon master, I definitely recommend checking out their website (https://dantelfer.carrd.co/). Sheesh, we could have chatted so much more about D & D, his experience as a cancer survivor, and so much more! But nonetheless, the time flew by and I had a blast listening to the podcast after the fact myself.

So stop by, find out who calls him Uncle Pizza, and let me know if you agree with his sage advice at the end of the show. I feel like he rolled a natural 20 on his wisdom check. Enjoy!

  • What up yall! I really enjoyed my conversation with this week's guest, Sanjay Manaktala, a comedian who currently resides in the heart of Tennessee, but who has performed across the globe. Listen up to find out where we met and the common classmate we had - it's a small flippin world.

Sanjay has a lot of experience in the digital realm, and I feel like this is one of the most in depth conversations I've had yet on the subject of how to grow your online presence, something that I would do well to listen to Sanjay about, who has certainly had his share of viral hits. Will I put into practice Sanjay's words of advice? Time will tell.

We also talk about getting a bit more aligned with your goals as you grow, ways that AI may or may not contribute to comedy and health, transition activities to keep you moving and inspired, and how there's no substitute for consistency.

So grab your dumbbells and lovely handles, and enjoy the show. Thanks for stoppin by.

  • Hey yoo!!! Was great to catch up with my old pal and Denver comedian Ben Kronberg this week. We talked about life's surprises, living in the moment, our love for movies and Colorado, and even bonded over Zoom therapy. Fitness chat included Ben's secret 7-minute workout and our shared walking passion. Bookworming involved Alan Watts and maybe a movie rec or two.

We chatted about Ben's comedy journey, from college to stand-up. He shared various thoughts on performing, his changing perspective on comedy, and experiences at a Denver Comedy Lounge and the Savage Henry Comedy Festival. Ben believes in achievable goals and creating a welcoming space in comedy.

We also chatted about Ben thriving in Denver's booming comedy scene and his advice for new comedians (and maybe our younger selves). It's all about balance and enjoying the ride! I shared some of my recent success, and we even discussed him visiting Oregon! All of this made me happy! Enjoy!

  • Hey team, Rudy Tyburczy here, stand-up vet and (let’s say) burgeoning personal trainer. I created Jokes and the Gym – a podcast where me and other comics (and whomever else) sweat, swear, and get real about getting healthy (sorta) - because I love working out and doing jokes and wanna talk with other people about how they feel about it, how they find balance in their life, and how to stay freakin funny while doing, ya know, LIFE!

This week's guest is Chadhurst Sharpe, a comedian and award-winning author (big words, I know) based out of Eugene. We dive into his journey, from military service to cracking jokes. We also talk about his writing process (spoiler alert: it involves a lot of rewriting – same, Chad, same) ever since he was just little boy in a bathtub.

Listen in if you're interested in:

How an open mic night turned Chad into a comedy machine. Why quitting smoking is harder than finishing a book. How to balance your life (work, hobbies, that Netflix queue) without staying up past your bedtime.Plus, Chad spills a bean on his writing habits, fitness routine, and his least favorite cartoon plot points.

So, grab your headphones, your water bottle (or maybe an apple fritter – you do you), and join us for some laughs and (hopefully) some fitness motivation. Getting healthy doesn't have to be a drag. Or…whatever! Let's have some fun with it!

  • Hey folks, this week's guest is the hilarious and talented Britney Spears/Philadephia Eagles fan Tess Barker! We dig into her podcasts Toxic: The Britney Spears Story (she like started #FreeBritney!) and Lady to Lady, the benefits of a chill (or very hot) workout, and what we talk about when we talk about Murakami.

We also geek out over storytelling in comedy (Tess shares a secret weapon from her comedian buddy!), our love for physical books (she actually reads them!), and of course, fitness! Tess, a marathon runner, spills a bean or two on her favorite running tunes and the weird joy of getting rained on.

By the end, you'll know a bit more about how to find inspiration, juggle your passions, and laugh your way to a healthier, funnier you. Plus, we chat about Tess's upcoming projects (hint: one of them is about to take place in the Biggest Little City in the World!). So grab your earbuds and get ready for a laugh riot with a side of #hashtag! Fly Eagles Fly!

  • Jokes and the Gym: Episode 9 with Sam Miller

What’s up fitness freaks and funny folks! This week on Jokes and the Gym, I hang out with fellow comedian and pal, Sam Miller, a dude who can lift a mic with the best of em. We dive deep into the world of stand-up, from building a laugh-loving community to surviving the brutal and (hopefully) hilarious world of comedy clubs.

Here's the skinny on our unpackables:

From couch potato to comedy commando: We chat about Sam's fitness journey, including how he traded his previous addiction (ohh, just meth) for comedy and cardio (and his beloved yoga). Spoiler alert: physical activity is good for you, and makes you feel good! (As good as meth? Maybe!)Sharing your story is your superpower: We delve into the power of bringing personal experiences to the stage. Turns out, being relatable and authentic is kinda key to making people laugh. The comedy scene: it's not all laughs and applause: We dish on navigating the ups and downs of stand-up, from dealing with drama queens and cancel culture to creating original material (without accidentally stealing someone else's joke).Finding your comedy groove: We discuss the joys and challenges of headlining shows, the ever-evolving edgelord comedy trend, and balancing your personal life with your passion for making people laugh. The business of joking around: We talk about setting goals as a comedian, the elusive recognition and awards, and the double-edged sword of social media.Because laughter is the best medicine (besides exercise, probably): We wrap things up with some lighthearted banter, a healthy dose of comedic self-reflection, and some hilarious pieces of advice from Sam himself.

Remember, folks: Building a community takes time and effort, but the rewards are worth it. Chugga chugga!

  • Turner Sparks, internationally touring headliner, and I lean pretty heavily into the Jokes portion of the podcast, but that's because I'm always so interested to hear from comics who have successfully moved to one of the coasts, especially after living abroad for so many years. That's Turner!

Since moving stateside after many years in Suzhou, China, he has released two comedy albums (on Larry the Cable Guy's Git R Done Records, for real) and is touring all over. You may have seen him going for a run in your town! Check him out! TurnerSparks.com

In this conversation, Turner Sparks (@turnersparks on ig or @turnersparkscomedy on TikTok) shares his experiences and insights on pursuing a career in comedy. He discusses moving to New York City and getting started in the comedy scene, including plenty of barking at comedy clubs. Turner emphasizes the need to prioritize comedy and make sacrifices to succeed. He also highlights the importance of building a community and contributing to the comedy scene. Turner shares his goals of building a social media presence and embracing clean comedy. He offers advice to his younger self and young comedians, including the importance of understanding and filling your role on a bill. We also talk about running, the connection between physical fitness and comedy, and explore some interesting strategies for any basketball teams looking to implement a new defensive scheme. It was a great conversation to have, and I hope you enjoy hearing it!
