Ben and Max are back in this week as the boys catch up on how they spent their summer vacations with talks on the erosion of album sales, the irrelevance of music videos and of course - seeing Green Day play through BOTH Dookie AND American Idiot in their entireties on the Saviors Tour. Also, Linkin Park has a new singer (15:02) - but should they? Who won the SUMBO24 (24:07) and what are they going to make everyone watch? We’re back baybeeeeee.

Ryan and his guest co-host Joel tackle all things Alien - including Prometheus, Covenant, Romulus and where each film in this confusing timeline falls in the franchise power rankings.
Skip to (18:01) to avoid any Romulus spoilers
Then Ryan & Joel get into the colossal failure of Borderlands and the age old question of whether or not there are ANY good video game adaptations, Ryan recaps his recent concert going experiences seeing Jeff Rosenstock & Blink-182, debate whether the Madden games are getting worse or if they're just less enjoyable because we're getting worse at them, and summarize the biggest horror movies of the summer with micro reviews of Longlegs, A Quiet Place: Day One, and MaXXXine

I'm really disappointed in myself for not coming up with a clever "The Boys are Back in Town!" or "bearvsboysvsshark" episode title but whatever - this week we dive into The Boys Season 4 finale, The Bear Season 3 (14:14); and new music from Action Bronson, Zach Bryan (29:53), and Eminem (32:59). We conclude our service by visiting the Content Confessional Booth (34:46) where we beg forgiveness for our sins of butt rock vainglory, gluttonous Star Wars consumption and lusting shamelessly with Pitbull. Have Mercy.

Max and Ryan read some listener poll results and give mini reviews for the new Black Keys and Young Jesus albums while waiting on Ben to finish being harassed with work calls in his off-hours. Then in a seemingly begrudging attempt to lighten the mood, it’s time for our 2nd Annual installment of The Posi Purge (09:28) - centered almost exclusively around discussions on food.
Then it's JEFF FREAKING ROSENSTOCK (14:44) here to talk about the heartbreak of not making a perfect hardcore album at 13 years old, how that disappointment helped to re-shape his priorities as to what he hopes to accomplish as a musician, the persisting allure of giving up, which 4 songs he’d choose to personify his career, what's left on the bucket list and a series of rapid fire either/ors regarding Spider-Man versus Batman, Larry or Jerry and what was the best album of 1994: Dookie or The Blue Album?
-
Ryan finally started watching The Boys (but bailed on The Americans), Eminem is killing off his Slim Shady alter ego after dropping the most streamed single of the year (05:53), Max names his Top 5 Pixar Movies (09:58) and a video game discussion breaks out (24:48) around the highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC, the largely mocked MultiVersus game from Warner Brothers, and the game that (allegedly) wrecked the entire gaming industry. We also dive into Hit Man (15:53), Madame Web (17:23) and "Brat" by Charli XCX (20:25)
Then Casey Crawford of Virginity joins the show (33:08) to talk about the band's new record Bad Jazz, his favorite movie of all time (which also inspired the album's title), the undisputed George Washington of their 90s Mount Rushmore, his favorite comic book characters, how all band names are inherently bad when divorced from their musical identity and the legend of Virginity's (short) set at Fest 20 in Gainesville on Halloween night.

We're celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Detroit Rock City with James DeBello (11:45) as he shares with us some behind the scenes stories about the making of the film like being horrified of Gene Simmons, ghosted by Shaq and star stuck by meeting (and eventually befriending) John Connor. Also playing Zelda with Natasha Lyonne, blowing through your per diem on antiquated home furnishings and questioning whether or not Marilyn Manson watched Saved by the Bell
Never seen Detroit Rock City? Don't worry (neither has Ben) we also talk used cars, whether or not Burritos are sandwiches, the ending of Titanic, what it's like to star in multiple box office bombs, Civil War, intermissions, Eli Roth's David Lynch impersonation, AI movies, and the best time to go pee during a movie (yes, there's an app for that)
-
We cycle through a vast array of questions this week like who is the Batman of dogs? Which is the best Planet of the Apes? Who are your dream buddy cops? Who's got Big Tim Duncan Energy? And what's the 2004 Album of the Year? All of this PLUS reviews for Furiosa and The Fall Guy followed by 2 new games we'll likely never play again: Sortin Out the Gilroys and Ticket Dungeon Master.
-
Ryan kicks off the show in hyperbolic fashion by declaring who the last movie star is and who made the last great, classic rock album. Then Max drops in from finals week to bring us back to more tempered conversations around safe topics like the Drake and Kendrick beef, Seinfeld claiming that we're too woke for sitcoms, the roast of Tom Brady, Taylor Swift, Lebron James, our favorite long albums, Beyonce and some Twister ASMR on this week's The Unwrappening

Max has finally persuaded Ryan to embrace our current golden age of television by diving into The Best & Worst TV Shows of 2023 as part of our tiered annual recap series - The Year in Tiers. Follow along as the boys parse through 35 seasons of television (!?) as well as a handful of shows we didn't bother finishing, the importance of reruns, manic pixie dream boys, the impact Jay-Z has had on anime, Tinkerbell acting like a d*ck, and whether or not Santa's elves are slaves.
-
Come all ye cart narcs, digital hoarders, and grandmothers of America. Feast upon our bountiful harvest of holiday content as we parse through our choices for the best and worst in Christmas songs, Christmas gifts, and Grand Theft Auto games in our 3rd Annual HondaDay Extravaganza. It’s all capped off with this year’s particularly (though, maybe not surprisingly) contentious (28:11) Airing of Grievances, made possible by listeners like you <3
-
It's time for our annual tiered recap of the best and worst albums of the year. The gang also takes time to dive into white trash Lil Nas X, the longest songs you'll allow yourself to like, Chris Stapleton's Rotten Tomatoes score, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and whether or not you can hear any song a million times and not grow to hate it (which naturally turns into a discussion on Patriot season 2).
You can also read the entire 123 album breakdown at internetkilledthevideostore.com and listen to our 2k23 Spotify Playlist which highlights our Top 100 songs of the year.
-
We've got 2 of our favorite artists of the year in for an interview double header - first up is Giuliana Mormile of Kicksie to talk about her new record Slouch, the trauma of playing your first show, the supply and demand issues that accompany finding a drummer, and the culture shock of a native Canadian visiting their first American gas station.
Then Kevin Patrick Sullivan (aka Field Medic) joins the show (26:15) for a candid conversation on trying to recapture the joy of creating his first album through musical exploration and innovation on it's spiritual successor "Light is Gone 2". It's a deep dive into the Field Medic lore, escapism via the creative process, not rocking, and fulfilling the Dope Girl Chronicles prophecy.

Our 3rd annual Halloween special finds the boys summarily dismissing the entire year's worth of horror movies to focus on the Blink-182 reunion (03:15) and which dormant acts we would bring back from the dead to make new music, re-animate for the sole purpose of reunion/anniversary shows, or leave rotting in indefinite hiatus (11:53). They also cover the new Mike Flanagan Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher (30:16), the impending fate of Bandcamp and the superior Five Nights at Freddy's adaptation Nic Cage made 2 years ago.
Then Ryan's sister Tori joins the show (48:56) to give her first hand account of this year's When We Were Young festival in Vegas, the 2 bands that didn't understand the assignment and her take on Fall of the House of Usher.
Be sure to take our listener's poll below giving us your feedback on what you liked, disliked, want to hear more of (or less of) going into Season 4!
