He risked bankruptcy in planting potatoes in the dust and drought against everyone’s counsel, and it yielded a bumper crop. He organised a weekend initiative which grew into 450,000 men gathering on his farm! The Spirit prompted him to call for a prayer meeting and 1.4million people showed up! 80 of his farm-workers were there to witness him praying for a dead lady struck by lightning whom he’d offered to take to the morgue, and she came back to life. Jonathan Aitken’s fall from grace was spectacular. Touted as a potential future Prime Minister, his lies under oath in a court of law landed him in prison. But in the carnage of the high-profile front-page life implosion, friends came alongside him and introduced him to the ‘One who sticks closer than a brother’. Now an active prison chaplain in his ninth decade, Jonathan’s still got plenty of life to live! What an encouragement!

I love the fact that the head of an atheists’ association in Beirut asked Lukas to take it on, as the person he most trusted! That further enhanced Lukas’ reach into the disaffected youth scene, with beautiful stories of radical Muslims being exposed to love in action and coherent debates softening antagonistic cynics.
From outgrowing his living room to establishing a coffee shop to which therapists unknown to Lukas refer their patients because ‘that’s where you’ll get better’, his reasoned and loving approach to anyone and everyone is bearing much fruit. It’s a great story!

Overcoming the carnage of hideous family brokenness and addiction, Uwe’s journey through alcohol, drugs and gambling to a place of national prominence in the political space is nothing short of miraculous. His experiences include years spent in Hamburg’s red light district with the Salvation Army (where we met), developing and running a delinquents’ home, pastoring a church, raising five children of his own, being involved in regional and then national politics, representing the Evangelical Alliance, and latterly as the CEO of Tearfund. What a story!

In 1966, Jackie Pullinger left the UK on a boat, aged 22 and with just £10 in her pocket, not knowing where she’d get off. Docking in Hong Kong, she sensed God saying that was the place. Her work in the Walled City of Kowloon saw triad gang members come to faith, girls rescued out of brothels, and thousands of drug addicts over the ensuing decades being set free. That story was told in the best-selling ‘Chasing the Dragon’, and she’s still in Hong Kong with a network of faithful workers, ministering to many more broken people, living by faith and trusting God to provide for their needs. What a challenge and inspiration!

Steve Legg died a few days ago. This interview with him and Carl Beech was recorded early last summer. They are both hilarious, passionate for people, and want to seize every opportunity to share their Ultimate Hope with as many people as possible.
At the time of recording, Steve had been given a terminal cancer diagnosis with just a couple of months to live, so estimated the doctor; but Steve was praying for his healing. Whereas although Carl is suffering with degenerative Parkinson’s disease, he has the firm conviction that he’s not to pray for healing, but rather accept the journey over the coming years and bring glory to God through the suffering. Carl’s condition has progressed significantly since, but he is still doing beautiful things (see below). This podcast is released with Bekah Legg’s blessing, and Steve’s of course as well, who to the end wanted as many people as possible to meet his Saviour for themselves.

Bob has always had a concern for the poor and oppressed, and his journey of faith has encompassed liberation theology shaped through years in Central America, coupled with social justice activism and then a radical experience through the charismatic movement - not something he’d wanted at the time! This propelled him into greater effectiveness, with healings and power encounters now accompanying his gospel work. It’s a fascinating, challenging and inspiring story.
