  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was edited and adapted from The Vedic Way of Blessedness, edited and adapted from a lecture by Swami Abhedananda.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: When we understand the true meaning of life, we know that life is opposed to death, as light is opposed to darkness. Life, in its most abstract sense, means being, and death means non-being, or non-existence. Where life is, death cannot exist.

If life be a reality, then what we call death must be unreal. That which lives or exists can never die or become non-existent. And that which does not live in any form whatever, can never become existent. Existence can never become non-existence, and non-existence can never become existence. This is the law of nature. Whatever exists will continue to exist.

  • Listen to episode 1004 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Making Your Ideals Real. Edited and adapted from The Ideal Made Real by Christopher D. Larson.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: The belief that it is impossible to make real the ideal has no foundation whatever in truth. It is simply an illusion produced by fear and has no place in the exact science of life. When you discern an ideal you discover something that lies in your own onward path. Move forward and you simply cannot fail to reach it — but when you are to reach the coveted goal depends upon how rapidly you are moving now.

  • Listen to episode 1003 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Your Words of Power. Adapted from Your Forces and How to Use Them by Christian D. Larson.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Every word that is spoken exercises a power in your personal life, and that power will work either for or against you, depending upon the nature of the word. You can talk yourself into trouble, poverty, or disease. And you can talk yourself into harmony, health, and prosperity. In brief, you can talk yourself into almost any condition, desirable or undesirable.

  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was edited and adapted from Working With God by Gardner Hunting, published in 1934.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: What do you suppose those people got out of contact with you? Do you know? Of course you don't. You think that they forget you. Well, they don't. They are just like you. They wake up in the night and think. Their hearts go down or their spirits rise because of something you did or said or looked, just as your courage ebbs or flows because of something they gave you.

A word, an act, a glance, an attitude, a sigh, a laugh, a sob, a mean trick, an act of self-sacrifice (one of yours) was stamped upon their hearts and souls. Something you did, something you said, something you were, now makes them set their teeth and clench their hands, or shrug and laugh, or cower and shrink, or give and give. Do you not think so? Well, then, you are much more important than you know.

  • Listen to episode 1002 of the Inspirational Living podcast: The Circles of Life & Success. Edited and adapted from the essay "Circles" by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Old age should not creep upon a human mind. In nature every moment is new; the past is always swallowed and forgotten; the coming only is sacred. Nothing is secure but life, transition, the energizing spirit. No love can be bound by oath or covenant to secure it against a higher love. No truth is so sublime but it may be trivial tomorrow in the light of new thoughts. People wish to be settled: but only as far as they are unsettled is there any hope for them.

  • Listen to episode 1001 of the Inspirational Living podcast: The Secret of Happiness. Adapted from The Wonders of Life by Ida Luella Rettinghouse Lyon.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Life holds for everyone some different meaning. Out of its great storehouse of treasures, every person endeavors to secure that which, for them, means happiness.

Many people early give up the struggle to acquire more than they find necessary for a mere existence, and never penetrate far into the mysterious labyrinths of this wonderful storehouse. Others waste their energies in accumulating a variety of tawdry trappings, which in no way represent happiness, but whose glittering spectacle blinds them to the less glaring things of real worth.

  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was Edited and adapted from The Shining Gateway by James Allen.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: There is no surer indication of confusion and decadence in spiritual matters than the severance of morality from religion. "He is a highly moral man, but he is not religious"; "She is exceptionally good and virtuous, but is not at all spiritual," are common expressions on the lips of many people who regard religion as something quite distinct from goodness, purity, and right-living.

  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was Edited and adapted from Working With God by Gardner Hunting.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: People suffer all their life long under the foolish superstition that they can be cheated. But it is as impossible for you to be cheated by anyone but yourself, as it is for a thing to be and not be at the same time. There is a third silent party to all our bargains. The nature and soul of things takes on itself the guaranty of the fulfillment of every contract, so that honest service cannot come to loss.

  • Listen to episode 998 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Living an Authentic Life | Originality vs. Conformity. Edited and adapted from Working with God by Gardner Hunting.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Isn't it pitiful, how we so often conform: conform to style, to custom, to mode, to trend. And if we think about it, we come upon a curious anomaly. The world is actually crying out for originality (for something new under the sun) yet it slaps at it instantly when it raises its head. No person is so unpopular as the one who begins to be unlike the rest. However, no person receives such rewards as the one who persists in it!

  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was edited and adapted from Every man a King by Orison Swett Marden and Ernest Holmes.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: When the soul once tastes its native food, once feels the thrill of the infinite pulse, it no longer is content to grovel. When you realize that you are divine, when you see that you are a part of the everlasting principle which is the very essence of reality, nothing can throw you off your physical or mental balance.

You are centered in the ever-lasting truth — entrenched there in infinite power from the taint of fear, or anxiety, or worry, or accident — because you are conscious that you are the principle yourself, a part of the eternal verity.

  • Listen to episode 996 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Earning Your Wisdom and Happiness. Edited & adapted from a speech by David Starr Jordan.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: The greatest source of failure in life comes from this. It is easier to be almost right than to be right; to wish, than to gain. In default of gold, there is always something almost as good, and which glitters equally. In default of possession, illusion can be had, and more cheaply. It is possession only which costs. Illusion can be had on easy terms, though the final end of deception is failure and misery.

Self-reliance inspires a person to do the best that is in them. Without self-reliance, the difficulties that are common to forging ahead cannot be fought and overmatched.

  • Listen to a sample episode of Our Sunday Talks, an exclusive series for the patrons of the Inspirational Living podcast. This episode was edited and adapted from Vedanta Philosophy: Five Lectures on Reincarnation by Swami Abhedananda, published in 1896.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Our spiritual nature expresses itself in various ways, but on a higher plane. Love of truth, mastery over passion, control of the senses, disinterested self-sacrifice, mercy and kindness to all creatures, desire to help the distressed, forgiveness, faith in a Supreme Being and devotion; all these are the expressions of that higher moral and spiritual nature.

Such qualities cannot be explained as developed from animal nature by means of the struggle for material existence. For they are not to be found in lower animals, although the struggle for existence is there. The moral and spiritual nature of human beings thus cannot be traced as the outgrowth or gradual development of the animal nature.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Let me not hear you complain about growing old. We are not growing old; we are growing eternally young. All our life up to today has been merely preparation for today. This is the greatest, wisest, happiest day in all our lives.

As we overcome, we ascend the Mountain of Life. We rise above the legacy of our limitations. We rise above troubles and storms into the sunshine. We rise to life's mountain summit and see the night below us.

  • Listen to episode 993 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Energy, Authenticity & Character | Mind Power. Adapted from The Positive Psychology of Success by Newton N. Riddle.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Before anything can be accomplished we must have power. It takes power to work, to do business, to enjoy, to think, to live. Mental energy backs all action. If we lack it, we cannot expect to accomplish much until we have developed the elements that supply force.

Even in good health, energy is sometimes deficient, leaving one tame, inert, constitutionally tired, and averse to activity and strenuous effort. Whatever the cause of this tendency, whether hereditary or acquired, it can be overcome by proper training.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: The individual who offends their Divine spark will die miserable, and it will be their own fault. Honor and salute the aged. Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: A life is divine when duty is a joy. The best work we ever do is the work we get pleasure from doing. And the work we are likeliest to enjoy most is the work we are best fitted to do with our talent. There is nothing in the world except marriage that we should be slower to take upon ourselves than our life-work; therefore, think much, read much, inquire much before you assume any life career.
