Mānawatia a Matariki 2022! This is the first ever year that Aotearoa NZ celebrates the Māori New Year and how fitting that we have our final episode of Season 1 go live today!
Join us this week as we look back on our own experiences so far in Med school as well as what we've learned through doing a podcast (or more like us whining about how much work actually goes into it). Hopefully you'll get a better idea of what the medical program at the University of Auckland is like and some inspiration to seek opportunities around conferences and research.
We sincerely hope you all enjoyed our honest discussions so far and had a few laughs and smiles along the way even if you didn't take too much away from them! Feel free to send us messages on Instagram at @inside_medside if you have any suggestions or questions for us. We'll now be taking a break to plan and prepare for Season 2 so we hope to see you back soon!

If you're a medical student in New Zealand, you will be more than familiar with the Progress test and worrying that you're going to get a negative percentage on it (yes, that's actually possible!)
This week, we're joined by Hena, a 4th year medical student from the University of Auckland, to discuss various topics from our most recent Progress test to her experiences as a first-time clinical student.
Hena is such a bright and energetic person and a great friend of ours that we love to leech positivity and life advice off of, so we hope you give this episode a listen and take away as much from it as we have! -

What's the one defining challenge in your life? How did you overcome it?
This week we're joined by another one of many Jafars/Jaffars, but the one and only Jafar Maash! An absolute genius and a bundle of pure passion for sports, Maash is here to enrich us with his stories and experiences. Whether you're studying engineering, medicine or anything else, we hope you give it a listen and learn as much as we did from him. -
Are you working too hard? Do you need a cup of coffee every morning? Are you scrolling through social media every chance you get?
This week we discuss the topic of addiction, but with a much more casual, anecdotal & opinion-based approach to the subject. We ask ourselves whether these relatively trivial behaviours can be considered forms of addiction and whether they have to be either good or bad.
We hope this episode prompts you to begin thinking about what addiction might mean for yourself and to reflect on how certain behaviours can impact your daily life. -
The longest holiday you will get in med school at UoA is after the 2nd year. It's all downhill from there... :'(
So this week we talk about what we each did over our 2021-2022 summer break, from calling people that they have Covid-19 to serving teppanyaki at a restaurant! Join us to gain some insight into what a medical student might get into during their holidays!
Disclaimer: This episode was recorded in January 2022. Details regarding Covid-19 protocols may have changed since the time of recording. -
We are so honoured to welcome our first ever podcast guest Uchit Gangoli!! He is a 5th year medical student at UoA who simply loves to spread positive energy to everyone around him. Come join us this week to hear about his first clinical experience in the hospital, as well as some insight on stress and mindfulness.
Unfortunately, the audio quality for this episode is not amazing but we're working hard to improve it for future guests. We can guarantee you that the content is nothing short of amazing though! -
When we tell people that we are medical students, we get all kinds of different reactions.
"Oh you're a med student? I've got a sore back. Can you diagnose this?"
"Oh you're a doctor? Marry my son/daughter plz."
So we thought it would be fun to talk about some of them! -
We've got something a bit different for you this week! After a pair of more serious episodes about medical entry, we'll be talking about some random topics that have nothing to do with medicine: Youtube getting rid of the dislike count & tipping culture in America vs New Zealand. Hope you enjoy and feel free let us know if you would like us to touch on random topics like this more in the future!

This week we continue our discussion about medical school entry and the graduate pathway. Whether you're fresh out of high school or a postgrad student, join us to discover what Shou & Jaffar's journeys were like and the wisdom they've picked up along the way! If you missed part 1 of this episode, make sure to go back and listen to it!

Are you curious about medical school entry at the University of Auckland? Or are you simply dying to relive the "traumatic" days of 1st year Biomed/Healthsci? Join us on our first episode to hear about our experiences! This is part 1 of 2 so stay tuned for a continuation of our discussion on this topic next week!
