Join Julie for 2 1/2 hours each month to make a full month's worth of marketing content for your theatre and upcoming productions! Our first session is July 14 so sign up now! Click HereCreating great marketing content is crucial in attracting audiences to theaters. It needs to be thoughtful, engaging, and resonate with the intended demographic to successfully build loyalty and drive ticket sales. By approaching content creation with clear objectives and a deep understanding of your target market, you can craft content that not only informs but captivates and inspires your audience. A well-executed content strategy should prioritize quality over quantity and focus on fostering relationships with your audience.

In this episode, you will be able to:

Identify core audience preferences to make well-informed decisions in your theater marketing strategies.

Get a glimpse into the complex world of social media algorithms and how they can make or break your ticket sales success.

Master the art of weaving captivating stories to engage audiences and create lasting impressions.

Find out how the Content Club program can elevate your theater organization’s marketing game.

    summary of this episode:
00:03:30 - Great Content Drives Audiences,
Great creative content means great success with marketing. Theaters are uniquely positioned to be storytellers, mission-based, and to spread the word that live theater is an incredible experience.
00:06:29 - Moving Beyond the Marketing Funnel,
The marketing funnel is something of the past, especially in theater marketing. We work in a flywheel where everything is circular, constantly engaging, and exciting audiences to become loyal and return time and time again.
    00:08:28 - Social Media Content,
The type of content that works best on social media channels is vertical videos, short-form videos, long-form videos, carousel creative, photos, text posts, and reels. The algorithm demands we vary the types of content we post to get it seen by more people.
    00:13:17 - The 70-30 Rule,
The 70-30 rule in marketing is that 70% of your content should be engagement-based, while 30% should be sales-driven. To create great content, intent, and emotion are important, as is knowing the target audience.
00:17:32 - Creating Content for the Ideal Audience,
When creating content, it's important to consider the audience's perspective. Think about what will move them to respond to your content. Consider the creative level of effort required and have a plan B in case the initial idea doesn't work.
00:19:24 - AI and Content Creation,
AI platforms are becoming valuable in making content creation faster and easier. However, it's important to use these tools ethically and responsibly. They deliver content that requires tweaking and refinement.
00:25:46 - Content Creation for Small Theater Organizations,
Small theater organizations might not have a robust content team and might be doing DIY marketing content. The Theater Marketing Lab Content Club can be a solution for finding sanity in the content jungle. It's a monthly program that creates marketing content for theaters.
00:33:41 - Crafting Authentic Stories for Your Theater's Marketing,
Julie has compiled a guide with over 100 content marketing thought starters, tips, and best practices to inspire theaters to create effective content that can build their audiences online and drive sales and engagement. The guide is called "Behind the Curtain." Get your free copy today.

Okay, confession time. How many of these describe you?

Are you still using a pre-pandemic marketing playbook from oh, 2018? Are you constantly in, get it done, figure it out if it worked later mode with your theater's marketing? Are you just checking off deliverables on a list with no strategy? Are you not trying a new marketing tactic because you just don't know how to do it effectively?

Maybe you're juggling multiple projects with increasingly urgent deadlines. Aren't we all competing for audience members' time and money growing in your community? Are you missing your revenue goals?

Well, how'd you do? How many of those describe you? Listen. The biggest accomplishment we theater makers can achieve right now today in the fall of 2022 is growing our theater's audiences. And that takes smart marketing strategies and kicking content to promote our productions and sell that house out.

And because of all these challenges and more that I just listed, well, that's why the Theatre Marketing Lab exists. We welcomed in over 70 founding subscribers to the Theatre Marketing Lab in August, and you can join them. The lab is a self-serve library platform where you can access hours of video training, workbooks, guides, and audio content. Even this podcast is there for you to listen to.

And here's maybe the best benefit you get discounts on all upcoming workshops, master classes, and even your first consultation with me. Shhh now don't tell my business advisor about that one. I hope she's not listening.

Anyway. Stay up to date on the necessary marketing skills that keep your theaters moving forward. I say it all the time, right? Nothing changes faster than marketing best practices. Inside the lab, you can go at your own pace. You can use what you need. You can cancel any time. New content is added regularly because you never know what's gonna happen in marketing that you need to know, and you need to change and need to fix. So head on over to julienemitz.com to learn more and subscribe, I'll see you in the lab.
