In this episode, I'm hitting pause and taking a little break. It's a chance for me to step back, reflect, and steer us into a new direction that's been on my mind: the fascinating interplay between humans and AI. But don't worry – we're not going to get bogged down in tech speak. I'm more interested in how AI is reshaping our daily lives, our connections, and even our self-perception.
I recently had an eye-opening chat about the future importance of soft skills in an AI-centric world. It's becoming clear that as machines take on more of the hard skills, our uniquely human qualities like empathy, creativity, and the ability to connect genuinely are becoming our superpowers. There's a beautiful irony in how AI might be nudging us to become more human, to value the imperfections that make us real.
And there's a topic that might surprise you: the emergence of relationships with AI. Think 'Her' the movie, but in real life. It's a reality for some, and it's a conversation I'm diving into with an open mind. What's driving this shift? How is it reflecting on our current state of human relationships? These are the questions I want to explore with you.
So, while I'm taking this break and embarking on my own journey of discovery in Peru, I'm inviting you to ponder these shifts with me. It's a search for understanding, for connection, and maybe even for finding our own 'Apu' – that place or state where we feel most at home, most ourselves.
Thanks for being part of this journey.

In this episode, we're diving deep into a topic that's both controversial and fascinating: the use of psychedelics to combat depression. Leland, an inventor with a passion for exploring consciousness, joins us to share his incredible journey and insights into using psychedelics for healing and self-discovery.
Leland opens up about his personal experiences with psychedelics and how they helped him overcome long-standing depression. It's not just about trippy visuals or wild stories – we're talking about real, profound changes in perspective and well-being. He sheds light on the resurgence of interest in these powerful substances, backed by groundbreaking research from institutions like Johns Hopkins.
But it's not all science and studies. Leland brings the conversation down to earth, discussing how psychedelics can be a tool for exploring the depths of our minds and the fabric of reality. With my own adventure in Peru on the horizon, his stories of consciousness exploration resonate even more.
Are you curious about the healing potential of psychedelics or the mysteries of the mind? Then this episode is for you.
Thanks for supporting the podcast. Can't wait to share what's next!

In this episode, I'm sharing some thoughts on where we're heading with this podcast. I've loved every bit of this journey – the interviews, the editing, and just the chance to dive into fascinating conversations. It's been exactly what I hoped for.
I'm gearing up for a big trip, starting in Peru and then maybe jetting off to Vietnam, Japan, and Europe. It's about seeking my next step, getting out of my creative comfort zone, and experiencing life differently. It's exciting, yet a bit daunting to step away from the stability I've built here.
One thing that's been on my mind a lot lately is artificial intelligence. It's not just the technology that intrigues me, but its impact on us as humans. From the way it's transforming work to its potential effects on education and personal relationships, AI is reshaping our world in profound ways.
I'm considering steering our podcast in this direction, exploring personal stories and real-life implications of AI. Whether it's a teacher grappling with AI in the classroom or how it's affecting relationships, I believe there's a wealth of untapped stories there.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this potential shift. Are you as intrigued by AI and its human side as I am? What aspects of AI's impact on our lives would you be interested in exploring together?
Thank you for joining me on this episode. Your support keeps this podcast going, and I'm excited about the possibilities ahead.

In this week's episode, I had the amazing opportunity to talk with Katy Oursler. From her early days on the East Coast to creating impactful food experiences, Katy's story is about more than just meals; it's about connecting people and building community.
Our conversation explored various aspects of Katy's journey. We delved into how she values farmers and their produce, creating a deeper connection between consumers and the source of their food. Katy shared fascinating stories about her improvisational cooking skills, like using fig leaves as dessert plates in a pinch, highlighting the fun and authenticity in such spontaneous moments.
We also discussed the rise of the farm-to-table movement and how people's desire for new food experiences has grown, especially in connecting with those who cook and grow the ingredients. Katy's involvement with World Central Kitchen during crises like the pandemic and natural disasters showcased her proactive approach to supporting local chefs and farms.
Perhaps the most heartening part of our talk was hearing Katy's reflections on pursuing personal goals and projects. Her desire to overcome inhibitions and chase her passions resonates with many of us striving to make our mark in the world.
So, if you're interested in how food can bring people together and create a sense of community, or if you're just looking to be inspired by someone who's making a difference, this episode with Katy is for you.Stay Connected:

In this week's episode, we're circling back to a topic that's becoming a bit of a regular on our podcast – Artificial Intelligence. But here's the twist: this entire episode is AI-generated, including what sounds like my voice!
We're diving deep into the world of AI and its impact on art. I'll be sharing my musings on the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity. Think about it – art that moves you, stories that resonate, all crafted not by human hands but by AI. How does that change the way we view creativity?
We'll touch on classics like "East of Eden" by Steinbeck and ponder over what AI-generated art could mean for future creatives. It's an intriguing blend of technology, art, and human emotion – a trio that's increasingly becoming more intertwined.
This AI-generated episode really pushes the envelope, and I can't wait to hear what you think about it. Has AI changed your perspective on art and creativity? Drop us a message; your thoughts are always a vital part of our discussions.
And remember, if you find these AI explorations as fascinating as I do, spread the word and share the podcast. Your support helps us keep these conversations going!

Welcome back to our Reminder Series. I'm excited to bring you another episode focused on Artificial Intelligence, this time it's all about learning.
In this episode, I'll be sharing my own experiences with learning in general, the challenges I faced with traditional methods, and how AI, especially tools like ChatGPT, has opened up a new world of understanding for me. I'm talking about breaking down complex subjects, tackling learning hurdles, and how AI could have reshaped my education as a kid.
Imagine having a tutor that's patient, knows everything, and is available anytime. That's what AI is bringing to the table, and I think it's a game changer, not just for kids in school, but for anyone wanting to learn something new.
I'm really keen to hear what you think about this and whether AI has changed your approach to learning too. If you're enjoying our chats, don't forget to share the podcast with your friends. Your support means the world.

In this week's episode, I'm diving into something completely out of the ordinary. I had a fascinating chat with a special guest who's blending the worlds of BDSM and plant medicine in the Bay Area. She shared with me how she got into this unusual line of work - and it all started with a revelation during a nap! We also explored her journey from that moment to becoming a plant medicine dominatrix, a role that's as intriguing as it sounds.
We dive into what her day-to-day work looks like, and let me tell you, our conversation wasn't just about the kink; it was deeply rooted in the healing powers of plant medicine. She's pioneering a space where trust, healing, and self-exploration converge. It's a delicate balance, but the way she marries these two worlds is nothing short of remarkable.
I came away from our talk with a newfound understanding of the importance of consent and trust in relationships, especially in such intimate settings. It's eye-opening to see how plant medicine can play a role in enriching these experiences.
So, if you're up for something that's a bit off the beaten track, this episode's for you. But just a heads up – we're tackling some mature themes, so it’s probably best for the adult crowd.

In this week's episode, I got to catch up with an old friend who's been stirring up the Bay Area's culinary scene, Emily Winston. You might know her as the mastermind behind Boichik Bagels, but there's so much more to her story.
Our conversation took us on a journey through her remarkable shift from being an engineer to mastering the art of bagel making. It's not every day you hear about someone leaving a technical profession to pursue the art of perfecting a New York-style bagel in the Bay Area, but Emily did just that. Her passion for authentic bagels turned into a business venture that's about more than just food; it's about community, authenticity, and resilience.
We talked about the gritty details of Emily's entrepreneurial journey, discussing the challenges and successes of her transition. Emily didn't just talk about making delicious bagels; she shared insights on business growth, maintaining quality, and why keeping a personal touch in your business matters more than you might think.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of our talk was how Emily navigates the complex dynamics of expanding a business while staying true to her roots. It's a lesson in balancing growth with authenticity, something every budding entrepreneur needs to hear.
So, if you're curious about how an engineer became a beloved figure in the artisanal food community, or if you're just a fan of a good bagel, this episode is for you.

In this week’s episode, I catch up with my good friend Rachel Gueck. Rachel's one of those people who makes you want to chase your dreams, no matter how big or wild they seem.
This episode is all about stories – the kind that make you feel, taste, and see a world through food and drinks. Rachel shares how she spun her life into stories that people love, from the pages of her cookbook to the vibrant ambiance of her restaurant.
We'll touch on how she crafted a story that turned little resources into a thriving spot, and why talking money matters in making dreams come true.
It’s not just business, though. Rachel reminds us how personal stories, like the ones with her daughter, shape our lives.
If you've got a story to tell or a dream to chase, Rachel’s journey is the push you need.

In this week's episode, I took a step away from our typical format to share a raw conversation with a remarkable individual I met during my travels, Lakpa Tamang.
Lakpa, a spirited entrepreneur from a remote village in Nepal, shared his entrepreneurial ventures, the challenges he faced, and his aspiration to move to the States in search of better opportunities. Throughout our chat, we touched upon the impact of environment and circumstance on one's life trajectory. While I've been able to push my ideas forward, Lakpa's journey has been met with hurdles, from government interventions to economic downturns.
While many podcasts shine a spotlight on the successful, today we pivot to share the story of someone who, despite adversity, continues to strive and dream. I hope Lakpa's story inspires, enlightens, and provides a fresh perspective on life and ambition.

In this week's episode, I had a super interesting chat with a good friend of mine, Eli Friedman, who also works as a professor at Cornell University. We dove deep into the world of AI, especially GPT, and talked about what it means for teaching, research, and just day-to-day life at a top university.
Eli shared some cool insights about how AI might change the way students and professors interact. We even got into whether it's okay for students to use AI to help with their homework (spoiler: the answers might surprise you!).
One of the best parts? Comparing the rise of AI to when the internet first started. It’s like watching a new world unfold in front of us. By the end of our talk, Eli and I also shared a few personal stories and laughs - turns out he's a big fan of ice cream, just like me.
So, if you're curious about where AI is heading and how it might change our schools and jobs, you'll want to tune in to this episode.

Welcome back to the second episode of my Reminder Series! In this episode, I'm diving into a topic that means a lot to me but sometimes slips my mind. It's about how we often focus so much on the one thing that's wrong or missing and forget to see all the good that's happening around it.
Life is full of ups and downs, both in work and in our personal lives. Sometimes, we focus so much on what went wrong that we forget to see all the things that are going right. This is especially true when I think about relationships.
How many times have we all been stuck on one mistake someone made and ignored all the other good things they did?
So, today's episode is all about this idea: "Notice everything they ARE doing, instead of the one thing they AREN'T doing." It's a simple reminder to look at the bigger picture and appreciate all the good around us.
If you've ever felt down because of small mistakes or wanted to have a more positive outlook on life, I hope today's episode helps you out.

In this week's podcast episode, I had a chat with a longtime friend and an immensely talented ambient musician, marine eyes (Cynthia Field). We have a history that dates back to the days when she used to assist me during my underground dinners.
We talked about what it really means to connect with an audience, especially at a time when most interactions happen online. marine eyes also talked about the financial side of being an artist and why physical things like vinyl records are still important for musicians today.
We discussed the importance of being genuine in the music industry. Instead of just chasing likes and followers on social media, real success comes from forming authentic connections with dedicated fans. These fans, whether they're from Idaho or anywhere else, are the ones who truly connect with and support artists' music.
As a surprising twist, we discovered a common practice we both turn to when life throws challenges our way. It's something you might find yourself doing too!
I hope you enjoy listening to this episode of How We Work. It might make you think a bit differently about the music you love and inspire you to connect more with the artists who create it.

Welcome to the first episode of my Reminder Series! In this episode, I'm opening up about something that, honestly, feels a bit embarrassing to share. But I think it might help some of you, as it's helped me. It's a personal practice that has become a part of my routine: setting reminders on my phone to remember important life lessons.
I'm on a never-ending quest to be better. Not just in work, but in the bigger picture of life. I want to be kinder, to myself and to others. Be more patient, more welcoming, and to use the opportunities life has given me for something positive.
Along the way, I've had some eye-opening moments. The kind you want to stick with you forever. That’s why I started writing them down on my phone. It might seem like no big deal, but for me, it’s made a huge difference.
One of my earliest reminders simply says, "Enjoy it." It’s about being in the moment, loving the journey, and not sweating the small stuff.
If you ever felt stuck in a cycle of always wanting more and never pausing to enjoy what's in front of you, I think this episode will resonate with you.

In this episode, my friend Adam Nelson and I chat about what success really means. Adam opens up about how true happiness isn't just about money. We share some of our own stories, and talk about how sometimes, what society thinks is "successful" isn't always the real deal.
We also get into the tough parts of life – like facing failures and picking ourselves back up. One big thing we realized? Everyone has the same amount of time. It's all about how we value and use it.
Adam and I also share some interesting chats we've had with super-rich folks. You'd be surprised at how they see happiness!Oh, and before the episode ends, I've added this cool audio bit – sounds of walking on an Oakland beach. Just something different I wanted to try out. And heads up, I've got something really personal I'll be sharing in the next episode. Can't wait for you to hear it!
