Whether you've followed your intuition through your food choices for years or you've never even heard of intuitive eating, this episode is for you. Do you enjoy serving others?
Do you work in a social services career?
Or maybe your a mother, a caregiver, or someone who tends to out everyone else before yourself?
This episode is for you.
Today I'm joined by my friend Christa Mayfield for a conversation where we dive deep into the realities & common issues many of us face when we are in service positions. After years of answering the call to serve in the anti-trafficking trafficking field, Christa discovered that many in social service positions were showing up to this work burnt out & without the resources to truly support & replenish themselves. She developed Good Sustained, a workplace wellness consulting & coaching service to support individuals and organizations serving trauma survivors to prevent & heal work-related stress, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue & burnout.
This conversation was so fascinating to learn about Christa's wisdom & perspectives on what the social services system is truly needing & how we can begin to make shifts that support both victims & service providers-- many of which I had never heard before. While Christa's work specializes in social services, so much of what we talk about may ring true to many of us. From burn out in our careers or relationships due to overextending ourselves to looking at our unconscious habits around people pleasing & wanting to be the "fixer" or "hero" in other people's lives-- we cover it all.
We talk about:
- Christa's experience working in the anti-human trafficking field
- reframing the glorification around exhaustion & putting others before ourselves
- how we can prevent burnout at the root
- what creating & implementing boundaries in our life really looks like
- acknowledging & recognizing our limits
- how to take our own expectations out of service
- social services as a means of supporting victims in reestablishing their own inner sense of autonomy & letting them lead
- getting to the root of why we people please, overextend ourselves & become the "fixer" in relationship dynamics
and much more. Enjoy this episode!
