Did you know 43% of people with ADHD will develop a problem with alcohol? It's so common because we use alcohol to self medicate our symptoms of Hyperactivity, Restlessness, and Impulsivity. But Alcohol is a band aid fix, and in sobriety, we learn healthier strategies to cope long term and live better, more productive lives with ADHD. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. Always consult a doctor to discuss anything about your mental or physical health.

When I quit drinking, I instantly felt so connected with my body. I would have these strong cravings for fruit or red meat, and I could feel when I was dehydrated or hungry. These were all new feelings to me, since I used to numb all of that with alcohol. I have gotten so in-tune with my body and have truly fallen in love with my mind-body connection, and keeping my body in a natural state is how I connect with what's going on inside.
So in my sobriety, I've chosen to let my body do the work. I add as little outside forces as possible to my health/ wellness routine, and I've seen amazing results!

Although abstaining from alcohol and healing the body is the main goal in sobriety, there are some additional benefits that you can experience, like weight-loss. The physical benefits are what motivate a lot of people to continue their sobriety, so today we're going to be discussing weight-loss in sobriety and what I did in addition to quitting alcohol that helped me lose 35lbs in my first 8 months.

In today's episode, we discuss the negative effects alcohol has on our sleep quality. Many of us drink in order to fall asleep, but that is causing more damage than good. Quitting was the easiest thing I've ever done (or at least way easier than any other "cutting back" strategies I tried. Some have the luxury of moderating their alcohol, but for me, it was never going to be possible. I realized I was either going to be 100% on or 100% off, and I'm so glad that I decided to be 100% off after almost 1.5 years of battling with the idea of quitting.
In today's episode, we discuss failing at "cutting back," different "cutting back" strategies, and why quitting once & for all will set you free.

"Why don't you drink?" When you go from being a heavy drinker to a non-drinker, you're bound to get some questions from friends, family, and unfortunately... strangers too. I find it really helpful to have some go-to answers prepared for this question, so you can avoid any uncomfortable situations or unwanted conversations. In today's episode, I provide LOTS specific examples for how you could answer this question, so I hope you find a couple that resonate with you that you can use in your future conversations. Of course, we get sober for ourselves and don't owe anyone an explanation, but for me, it was comforting to have a rehearsed answer for this very commonly asked question, especially in early sobriety. As always, feel free to DM me or leave a comment! The difficult truth no one tells you about sobriety is that you'll actually have to FEEL your feelings and face them head on. There's no more drinking away the pain, and that is a difficult adjustment in early sobriety. I felt like a toddler, relearning how to handle emotion. In today's episode, we talk discuss some tangible tips for managing those emotions and redirecting harmful drinking habits into a more healthy alternative :)As always, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message. Focusing on the positives is so important, especially in early sobriety. There are SO many amazing things that come with quitting alcohol... I could have written a list of 100+ perks.
Sometimes the negative side of early sobriety can wear us down: Changing our routine, cutting out people that don't support us, or figuring out how to exist in a society surrounded by alcohol. My biggest tip is to hyper-fixate on the positives. Become obsessed with all the positive things that arise!
You got this!! And as always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments :) You can find me @indiagants on all social.
