This week’s guest, renowned midlife trainer Hailey Babcock, wants you to know one thing: No one is crushing it 100%. Not the celebrities or big names she trains; not the tens of thousands of women she works with, and certainly not herself. Hailey is currently going through it with brain fog, joint pain, 2 a.m. wake ups, migraines, MIA libido, raw emotions, and low motivation and mojo. That’s before you layer on the stress of running a business and parenting three kids. We dig into how she’s navigating her onslaught of symptoms while she keeps showing up for herself and her clients; why being “fit for your life” matters more than chasing perfection, and how building a strong body matters when life gets messy.
Hailey Babcock is the founder of Hailey Happens Fitness, an online fitness and nutrition brand dedicated to empowering women over 35 to feel strong, confident, and energized through every stage of midlife. A former gymnast, runner, and triathlete, Hailey has been a certified classical Pilates instructor for over 20 years and holds multiple certifications including TRX, kettlebell, barbell, foundational training, and ACE Certified Personal Trainer. Drawing on more than two decades in the fitness industry, she has guided over 50,000 women through online programs focused on fat loss, strength training, and sustainable nutrition, with a special mission to convert women in their 40s and beyond to the miracle of strength training. Committed to evidence-based practice, Hailey collaborates with renowned experts like Dr. Vonda Wright and Dr. Stacy Sims to ensure her methods reflect the latest in women’s health and aging science, helping women from all walks of life—high-profile leaders to everyday midlife women—find more health, happiness, and resilience through smart, supportive, science-backed fitness and nutrition strategies. When you’re in pain, the first question someone asks is “Where does it hurt?” The answer—as anyone with phantom limb pain can tell you—is not always as straightforward as it seems. This week, pain psychologist and author Dr. Rachel Zoffness breaks down the “big fat lie” we’ve been sold about pain: it’s not just a signal from damaged tissue, it’s a brain-driven experience built from a mix of ingredients, including your nerves, thoughts, emotions, memories, and environment. She explains how the same brain regions that process emotions also construct pain, why that matters so much for women—who go through menstruation, childbirth, and menopause and are still disproportionately told their pain is “all in their heads”—and how understanding brain-based biology is the first step in changing how much you hurt. She also shares practical, evidence-backed strategies for active women to retrain their nervous systems, along with tools to help you advocate for care that goes beyond pills and procedures and actually reflects the modern science of hurt.
Rachel Zoffness, PhD, is a pain psychologist and thought-leader revolutionizing the way we understand and treat pain. She's an assistant clinical professor at UCSF, lectures at Stanford, and consults on the development of pain management programs around the world. Dr. Zoffness’s new book, Tell Me Where It Hurts, is out now and is being translated to more than 25 languages. You can learn more about her work and find her book at www.zoffness.com

Most of us have had that moment where we get our bloodwork back and shake our heads. We’re still our active, health‑minded selves and out of nowhere—rising LDL, ApoB, A1C, and maybe blood pressure and Lp(a), too. This week, preventive cardiology dietitian Michelle Routhenstein joins us to unpack the cardiometabolic chaos and what’s really driving it. She explains estrogen’s protective role in lipids and blood pressure, why standard risk calculators and even calcium scores can miss women’s disease, and which advanced labs are worth asking for. We also dig into how under‑fueling and low‑carb diets can worsen cardiometabolic health and plaque; why complex carbs, fiber, fermented foods, and gut health matter so much; and how to approach protein, red meat, electrolytes, nitric oxide, and statins in a personalized, empowering way—remembering that 80–90% of heart disease remains preventable when women get the right information and advocate for themselves.
Michelle Routhenstein, MS, RD, CDCES, CDN is a preventive cardiology dietitian and founder of Entirely Nourished, a virtual practice focused on personalized, science-based nutrition for heart health. With over 14 years of experience, she helps people improve cardiometabolic risk and manage conditions like atherosclerosis, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation using a whole-person approach. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Clinical Nutrition from New York University, serves on the Forbes Health Advisory Board and the Medical Advisory Committee for the National Menopause Foundation, and is the author of The Truly Easy Heart-Healthy Cookbook and Simple Meal Solutions for High Blood Pressure. Her work has been featured in outlets including Forbes Health, Fox News, Prevention, Women’s Health, and Good Housekeeping, and she works with clients virtually from New York via www.entirelynourished.com

In this bonus episode, Selene welcomes longtime friend, cyclist, and women’s sports powerhouse Kate Veronneau to the show for a preview of the first-ever FeistyFest in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
For Kate, the location is personal. The Valley Preferred Cycling Center is where she first fell in love with bike racing, found her cycling community, and eventually launched a career in the sport. She shares how a casual Friday night trip to watch track racing turned into an entry-level “try the track” class, a relocation to the Lehigh Valley, and years immersed in one of the most magical cycling communities around.
Selene and Kate talk about what makes the Lehigh Valley so special: quiet roads, covered bridges, gravel before gravel was “gravel,” beautiful trails, and a deep community of people who love to ride, run, explore, and support one another.
They also dig into what attendees can expect at FeistyFest: track riding, gravel, trail running, lifting, swimming, pickleball, community, laughter, and the kind of grown-up summer camp energy that reminds women how good it feels to try new things.
Kate also shares why women-only spaces can be so powerful, especially when women feel safe, supported, and encouraged to step outside their comfort zones. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or brand new to an activity, there is something magical that happens when women come together, lift each other up, and give each other permission to live a little bigger.

There’s a lot of advice out there on how to fix, cure, hack, medicate, and manage menopause. Often, what we really need is nourishment, says this week’s guest Andrea Donsky, RHN, author of Nourishing Menopause: Powerful Nutrition and Lifestyle Strategies to Feel Your Best. Andrea’s 14‑year journey through perimenopause led her to blend naturopathic and conventional medicine into a complementary approach that focuses on gut health, nervous system regulation, blood sugar management, and other strategies that give your body, mind, and spirit what they need to thrive through and beyond the menopause transition. We dig into all of it—plus midlife identity, the power of community, and much more.
Andrea Donsky is a menopause nutritionist, 7X published menopause researcher, certified perimenopause and menopause health coach, and author known as the “Menopause Researcher” to her 350,000+ TikTok followers. She founded Morphus, hosts the Menopause Reimagined podcast, and is the author of Nourishing Menopause: Powerful Nutrition and Lifestyle Strategies to Feel Your Best. This week we sat down with menopause and mental fitness coach Sara Larson to cut through the noise around midlife, from quick‑fix promises and supplement stacks to rigid “shoulds” about how we’re supposed to look, feel, and age, and offer better solutions for navigating this challenging transition. Drawing on her own brutal perimenopause—crushing joint pain, brain fog so bad she joined an Alzheimer’s study, suffocating anxiety and depression—Sara shares how she went from feeling like everything was coming apart to becoming a menopause navigator, helping women walk into the doctor’s office “ready,” advocate for themselves, and understand their treatment plans. We dig into grief, weight gain and body image, the spiritual and identity unraveling of menopause, and the grounding power of outdoor experiences that reconnect you with strength and embodiment. This is a conversation about gentleness as strength and learning to ask for something different in the second half of life.
Sara Larson is a menopause life coach, educator, and speaker who helps women cut through misinformation and access evidence-based menopause care. She specializes in advocacy, education, and community-building, supporting women through perimenopause and postmenopause with clarity, confidence, and a healthy sense of humor. Active women are often blindsided by an osteopenia or osteoporosis diagnosis. This week, we explain why—and, more importantly, what to do about it—with Professor Belinda Beck, PhD, investigator on the groundbreaking LIFTMOR trial, which found that high-intensity resistance and impact training was both effective and safe for postmenopausal women with low bone density. This episode is a deep dive into how bone remodeling works and why mechanical loading—especially the right combination of impact exercise and progressive heavy strength training—is essential for building and maintaining bone strength. We also cover peak bone mass, estrogen, menopause, and the foundational role of nutrition, including calcium and vitamin D, in supporting stronger bones for life.
Dr Belinda Beck is a Professor of Exercise Physiology at Griffith University (Gold Coast, QLD) and Director of The Bone Clinic in Brisbane. Her work, primarily related to the effects of mechanical loading on bone, includes a series of clinical trials (the LIFTMOR and MEDEX-OP trials) that changed the way osteoporosis is managed with exercise. In 2015, she established The Bone Clinic, a translational research facility and clinical practice in Brisbane providing the ONERO® exercise program for osteoporosis which has been licensed for delivery around the world. She has been awarded almost $8M in research funding and has published over 150 papers and chapters in the field. She is a Fellow of numerous bone and exercise societies (including ACSM, ASBMR, ESSA and SMA), is on the Board of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society, Sports Medicine Australia, the SOS Fracture Alliance, the International Osteoporosis Foundation Capture the Fracture Governance Committee, and the Healthy Bones AustraliaMedicine and Science Advisory Committee.

Elite cyclist, multisport athlete, and endurance coach Jenny Smith has spent decades pushing her limits — including multiple Leadville 100 podiums — but perimenopause and a meniscus tear brought unexpected mental and physical health challenges…and solutions. Ultimately, she found help through traditional medical interventions, picked up weights and got stronger than she’s been in years, and discovered Angelic Reiki, which gave her peace, calm, and a deeper connection to herself. This week we unpack her perimenopause journey, the symptoms she didn't see coming, the relief strategies that actually worked, and why aging doesn't have to mean stepping back from the sports and the life you love.
Jenny Smith is an elite cyclist, multisport athlete, and endurance coach with Aim High Performance Coaching—a company she co-founded with her husband, Brian Smith. A New Zealander, Jenny has called Gunnison, CO, home since 1999. She arrived as a collegiate runner at Western Colorado University and has been fortunate to live here as a pro mountain biker and elite athlete with Brian and their daughter, Jade. She coaches with youth and collegiate athletes and provides personalized coaching for endurance athletes. Jenny aims to be an active role model, athlete, and coach for many years to come. In running, we celebrate grit, determination, pushing through pain, and crossing the finish line—whatever it takes. It shines on Instagram, but what does it really cost women in midlife and menopause who may be bogged down by endless injuries? How do we process it and find what's right for us? Sports like running are more than something we do. They become who we are, who our friends are, what our lives revolve around. When we can't do them anymore, there's enormous loss—and all the stages of grief. Longtime runner, Another Mother Runner co-founder, and author of The 27th Mile, Dimity McDowell joins us to unpack it all—including her "calling it quits marathon," mental matrix for decisions, and how to replace all that running gave you when it comes to an end.
Before focusing her career on running, Dimity McDowell was a sports journalist, holding staff positions at Self, ESPN: The Magazine, and Sports Illustrated for Women. She co-authored three running books and co-founded Another Mother Runner, an inclusive community for all female runners, with Sarah Bowen Shea. The author of The 27th Mile: How to Smooth the Rough Transition Out of Your Running Years, she has finished countless races, including Ironman Coeur d'Alene and the Pike’s Peak Half Marathon. Dimity is the mother of two adult children, and lives in Denver with her husband and two dogs. You can learn more about her work and find her Running Detox Program at manyhappymiles.com.

As athletic women, we often pride ourselves on grit—shoving down feelings, pushing through pain and measuring every metric in pursuit of optimization. But what does that cost us long-term? And how does it hold up in the chaos of midlife and menopause? This week, former Ironman champion and lifestyle medicine practitioner Dr. Tamsin Lewis joins us to explore the evolution from "harden the F up" culture toward bioharmony—a compassionate, context-driven alternative to the more rigid biohacking that’s popular today. Drawing from her high-performance athletic career and hard-won personal experience, she unpacks what she’s learned about female biology, hormones, and recovery. We also dig into hormone therapy, nervous system regulation, autophagy, regeneration, and embracing midlife as a "second spring"—a season for new pursuits that expand our identity, horizons, and even cognitive capacity. Prepare for a deep dive into the menopause transition through the lens of mindset, biology, and the nervous system.
Dr Tamsin Lewis, also known as Dr Tam, is a physician, longevity expert, and human‑flourishing advocate. Graduating with honours in Medicine from King’s College London and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, with a BSc in Neuroscience and the Biology of Ageing, her work bridges psychiatry, sports & exercise medicine, nutritional and functional medicine. As Founder and Medical Director of Wellgevity®, she leads a personalised, diagnostics‑driven approach to health and emotional regulation—the Wellgevity® Method—integrating biomarkers, brain‑body synchrony, and evidence‑based recovery, while consulting at Reborne Longevity in London, where she delivers longevity medicine through a bioharmony lens. If you've ever leaked when you laughed, jumped, or sneezed–or felt like your core disappeared after pregnancy, injury, or into perimenopause–you're not alone. This week, fitness specialist Leah Keller joins us to unpack deep core dysfunction: what causes it, and why healing it changes far more than just your abs. Leah's breakthrough came when she realized she could help women actually heal the separation between their abdominal muscles–known as diastasis recti–even years after giving birth. Clients who came for core work started reporting that they'd stopped leaking, that sex felt better, that back pain eased, and that their bodies finally felt like their own again– issues they never mentioned at the start. She explains exactly how fixing the deep core resolves problems women didn't even know were connected. We’ll give detailed descriptions of the exercises. You can also watch this one on YouTube to see the exercise demonstrations as well as the anatomical illustrations referenced in this episode, showing the difference between a healthy midline and one with significant diastasis recti separation.
Leah Keller is a certified personal trainer specializing in core and pelvic floor health, and co-founder of Every Mother (formerly The Dia Method). Her approach earned medical validation in a 2013 Weill Cornell pilot study — published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology — and was further supported by a 2021 Hospital for Special Surgery trial in the Journal of Women's & Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. She has been featured as a women's health expert by NPR, Goop, and Good Morning America. You can find Leah’s published studies, resources, and learn more about her work at leahkeller.com

Women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond are crushing courses around the world. At a time when we’ve been preconditioned to believe we’ll slow down, many women are holding strong—or even improving. This week’s guest Anna Troup, 56, who has clocked many of her greatest ultrarunning feats since turning 50, is a perfect example. Last year she took first overall (including the men) at the 268-mile (430K) Montane Summer Spine race—Britain’s toughest ultra marathon—in 84 hours, 56 minutes, and 37 seconds. This after a 2022 injury that left doctors questioning if she’d ever run again. This week, we talk about her most recent feat: completing the Montane Winter Spine Race this past January in 106 hours, 19 minutes, and 12 seconds—through brutal conditions including gale-force winds literally blowing runners off their feet. We dig into her journey to ultras, how she trains, races, and recovers, her menopause experience, and why more midlife women should line up and give it a go.
Anna Troup took up ultra running in 2013 with the sole aim of completing the UTMB, which she did for the first time in 2014. Unexpected success followed, much of it after she turned 50, and she has since won and held course records for many of the UK’s toughest single stage ultras including the Arc of Attrition 100, the Lakeland 100, Exodus 100, Wendover Woods 100, the Oner and the Summer Spine and Winter Spine. She has run the women’s Fastest Known Time for the Pennine Way and was the first female British finisher in UTMB in 2022. Ultra running has been a family sport since the beginning and she normally competes with Richard Staite, her partner, whilst her two children can be found either running themselves or as volunteers in aid stations. She works as non executive director and has recently moved to the Lake District to be closer to the mountains she loves.

Now that menopause is finally getting the research and medical attention it deserves, we are finally putting perimenopause in the spotlight as a pivotal period in a woman’s life that demands its own care and attention. This week, midlife gynecologist Dr. Alyssa Dweck returns to break down perimenopause care, the state of hormone therapy, and much more. We dig into how perimenopause is so variable, how to think about the pill, IUDs, hormone therapy, and the new non-hormonal drugs, plus what hot flashes may be revealing about your heart health. We wrap with a look at wearables, telehealth, and the coming era of precision menopause medicine that treats ovaries as the powerful “conductor” organ they are. (Note: Dr. Dweck accidentally misspoke regarding fezolinetant. She would like to clarify that it is an NK3 receptor antagonist not an NK1.)
Alyssa Dweck MS MD FACOG MSCP is a practicing gynecologist at Well by Messer in New York City and the Chief Medical Officer at Bonafide Health. Dr. Dweck is a menopause society certified provider with a special interest and expertise in female sexual health and medical sex therapy. Dr. Dweck was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of HERmedicine, a nonprofit education organization dedicated to advancing women’s healthcare across the lifespan. This role at HERmedicine recognizes her as a distinguished leader dedicated to educating clinicians and integrating evidence-backed care into everyday medical practice. Dr. Dweck has authored three books, the most recent The Complete A to Z For Your V also co-hosts Business of the V, a podcast which focuses on unmet needs in gynecology and women’s health and the businesses created to fulfill these needsYou can learn more about her and her work at drdweck.com

This week’s guest would like to apologize. Like many of us before perimenopause hit, Shawna Norton admits she used to quietly doubt—even judge—women who said their bodies changed overnight despite doing nothing differently. Then it happened to her. Now she gets it. And she’s genuinely sorry. In this wide-ranging, sometimes raucous, and brutally honest conversation, we dig into her own experience with rapid weight gain, joint pain, brain fog, and the unsettling feeling of living in a body that suddenly feels unfamiliar. We talk cortisol, stress resilience, inflammation, blood sugar management, the complexities of HRT, sleep strategies, and the emotional whiplash of navigating so many unknowns at once. Most of all, we talk about validation—because sometimes the most powerful thing you can hear in this chaotic time of life is: you’re not alone.
Shawna Norton, M.S., is a kinesiology specialist, strength coach, and nutrition coach dedicated to helping women build resilient, high-performing bodies. She holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology and is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer as well as a Level 1 Certified Nutrition Coach through Precision Nutrition. Shawna is the founder of Competitive Female Training, a women-only coaching program where she guides athletes in fueling their training, optimizing performance, and focusing on what their bodies can do. She also coaches with Deep End Fitness, integrating stress-resilience and breath-driven performance strategies into athletic development. Learn more about her work at competitivefemaletraining.com

As women, we’re told our bodies are wrong almost from the moment we become aware of them—and that messaging hits hyperdrive when the body composition changes of menopause arrive. Those changes are often framed as urgent health risks, even when the picture is far more nuanced and the steps taken to “fix” them can carry risks of their own. This week we sit down with dietitian and public health nutrition specialist Diana Reid to dig into what actually drives midlife weight gain, what belly fat and BMI do (and don’t) mean for your health, and where GLP-1 medications fit into the picture. We talk muscle and bone loss, under-fueling, weight regain, and how to protect your health if you choose to use weight loss medications.
Diana Reid is a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist licensed in both the United States and Luxembourg. She’s originally from Seattle, but has been living in Europe since 2016. Diana has a masters degree in Public Health & Nutrition and specializes in nutritional counseling and support for patients with eating disorders; food allergies, intolerances and gut disorders; and the unique challenges related to women’s health, especially during midlife and the menopause transition. She is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and follows a non-diet, weight-neutral approach to health and wellness, focusing on habit building, lifestyle behaviors and balanced nutrition. She believes in practicing with compassion, understanding, and a personalized approach to nutrition and well-being. Diana is a married midlife menopausal mom of three teens and a clingy dog, and loves cycling, weight lifting, hiking and traveling. Sports nutrition is confusing. Sports nutrition for endurance athletes is even more confusing. And sports nutrition for midlife female endurance athletes? That’s where a lot of women end up working incredibly hard… and getting nowhere, because they’re trying to outtrain a fueling problem. This week we sat down with sports dietitian and endurance athlete Meghann Featherstun of Featherstone Nutrition to talk about the fueling mistakes that women often struggle with the most: iron status, energy availability, carbohydrate fueling, hydration, and GI distress, along with the emerging complications of GLP-1 medications.
Meghann Featherstun, MS, RD, CSSD Owner and founder of Featherstone Nutrition ltd, Meghann has been working with endurance athletes as a board certified sports dietitian for the last 10 years. Passionate about helping runners, triathletes, and active individuals crush their biggest, baddest performance goals through solid daily & performance nutrition. A 3:58 to 2:49 marathoner herself, she knows what it takes to use solid nutrition to elevate potential as an athlete. You can learn more about her and her work at featherstonenutrition.com
